About Sens Restaurant
Sens is French for the word meaning "Sense," which refers to the faculties of sight, sound, smell, and taste that humans perceive this as stimuli originating from the body inside and out.
At Sens we love the process of cooking and its end result, complete happiness. Our inspiration is that of the Mediterranean with its wonderfully diverse cultures and cuisines. Our goal is not to redefine or reinvent their cuisine but rather to refine, refresh and create delicious and beautiful food. Sens Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Have eaten lunch and dinner here several times. Each time the food was excellent, service even better. Having been seated this last time next to a table of twelve who were enjoying their office party, we asked to move to quieter area so we could hear ourselves talking. Of course the restaurant was jammed full. Without any fuss, we were shown to a quieter room being held in reserve, made comfortable to enjoy our lunch. Our server was excellent, even though he now had to run between rooms. A beautiful decor and view as well - highly recommend for office lunches and dinner meetings.
I took a friend, who loves Meditteranean cuisine, for dinner. The food was extraordinarily excellent - chicken meatballs, Moroccan lemon chicken soup, roasted stuffed eggplant, as well as sides of chard and couscous. The service was excellent, as well. Although it was near the end of Happy Hour, on a Friday night, and very noisy and crowded, we still were able to enjoy our conversation and enjoy the Embarcadero view.
The price was appropriate for the high quality food and service. I highly recommend Sens.
I eat here fairly regularly so I was surprised that the service had slipped. The food was great, especially the dessert (poached pairs with pound cake a must!). We waited at least 20 minutes for our check. There was so much staff standing around doing nothing but no one seemed to be able to bring our check.
The restaurant was wonderful for lunch and overlooks the Ferry Building. This has been my only visit, but I'm sure it would be good for dinner too. Inside is lively with a great bar. Did not seem too noisy. Food was good. Lots of interesting choices though we only had soup and salad. The Caesar could have been better. The dressing was mayonnaise based, a particular pet peeve of mine. Give it a try.
I have been many times for lunch - first time dinner- arrived 515 - bar is very lively but once seated at a table away from the bar it was very quiet- we both had halibut- one of the best.
Really a nice restaurant to sit by the window - relaxing - prices are standard for good fish $36
nice portion and side. Didn't need an appetizer or desert - but I am small. will be back
Sens is in an unlikely spot...top mall floor of Embarcadero 4...but once you ascend to the outdoor walkway it's almost is own private world. Rustic but sophisticated stone and wood interior and a four-star view all along the back windows and patio, this should be a destination spot regardless of the food...but the food is also excellent. Mediterranean style appetizers can be shared as tapas (fantastic grilled squid, and gnocchi are signature "don't miss" dishes) but the mains are also wonderfully executed, with usually a delicious grilled fish, lamb three ways (I'd be happy with just the chops but the whole plate is tasty), and a nice chicken. Our table also shared the veggie eggplant dish which was hearty and flavorful. Even the salad we had as a refresher after the appetizers will have me coming back for lunch. Main courses in the thirties but portions are generous enough for two to share if you'd like.
Busy vibe during happy hour and into dinner, but then quiets down making it a great pick for an 7 or 8 PM table. The view of the Ferry Bldg and the bridge is world class. And the wine list is what I would call inviting...a broad selection of world labels, but also deep a few specialized areas...so now I believe they have four or five vintages of Pontet Canet Bordeaux, each one interesting but you could put together a nice tasting. Austrian and Spanish whites, good California selection including hard to find bargains, and a selection of half bottles makes for great reading and interesting drinking. Pricing is good, too.
Service is friendly yet professional. Overall a nice night out.
Got there before our 7pm. Just a few tables with patrons. Asked for a table with a view. Put us next to the wall with our back to the window. Had a choice to sit outside without heaters. No table linens. Sat outside but not acceptable. Left without dining. Waiter and maitre d did not even try and accommodate us.
Our server didn't check up on us, never explained why our burger that we shared took almost an hour to come out and didn't ask if we wanted another glass of wine when we finished. I get it, maybe he was having a bad day but it really took away from our lunch at Sens.
Sens has been one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco for about two years now. We come on a very regular basis and have never had any issues and always had wonderful service until last night. Our friends from Scotland were visiting and we wanted to show them a wonderful time before they went back across the pond, therefore we took them to Sens.
1. Our waiter was new to be fair but his service was deathly slow, we had to ask to order (waited about 25 min), we had to ask for our bill and to top it all off he charged our friends twice on the bill and didn't know how to fix it. Multiple people tried helping, including the manger on duty (who left mid way of helping) but nobody had a clue.
This took about 20 min of our evening until I asked a waitress where the manager was and why he wasn't helping us? She guided me over to him to find the manager happily sitting at a table eating his own food?!!! Outrageous, as he knew this situation was going on.
Finally he got up and refunded our friends card and offered free drinks for all the complications. This was a nice gesture, we really appreciated and thought the embarrassment of the evening was through. It wasn't
2. After siting outside and enjoying the remaining amount of time with our friends, a cocktail waiter brought out a bill and said quote on quote "Here is your zero balance bill since we took care of it, but a non zero tip would be great". I couldn't believe my own ears, how tacky and how dare he ask for a tip when the purpose of the drinks were to help make up for such horrible experience we just had!
I was so embarrassed and so upset that I had to write this review. Higher management needs to know how their loyal customers are getting treated and also how their employees/management are totally under trained and very unprofessional.
