Selva Grill Ratings and Reviews
The first thing you notice when you enter Selva Grill is the noise. The background noise is extreme. Maybe I'm just sensitive but it overshadowed our meal. My wife and I, seated at a 2-top could hardly hear each other. Food was very good, but a little pricey, as are many downtown SQR restaurants. I had the braised short ribs and my bride had the skirt steak (each $35-37). We both enjoyed our dinners. I had a nice glass of cabernet with dinner. Again, a little pricey at $13. Server did an excellent job.
Due to the background noise, we will try a different place next time.
Visiting from Maryland and ate here on a cold Tuesday night. We were right by the windows so it was cold but everything else was perfect. The food was fresh and inventive and our waitress was able to answer our questions about new flavors we were trying. We shared the cervice and Peri Peri shrimp to start, both excellent. I had the rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked and generous and my husband had the fish special. Definitely our best meal in Sarasota, in fact we booked to return tonight as there were so many enticing items on the menu we didn’t get to try on our first visit.
We had friends from LA visiting us. This was their first exposure to Sarasota....They were very impressed that we have such quality restaurants - they had never had Peruvian food before and
loved it. First for Pisco Sours as well. From Siesta Key to Selva, Sarasota left them with a very different opinion of what Florida is like. The food was creative, and very good. The restaurant is lovely, and there were lots of young people having dinner and congregating at the bar- totally
disproved the idea that Florida is all Blue Hairs.....
Michelle was excellent, very attentive but not hovering - very timely. The Ahi Tuna and Shrimp Spring Roll was exceptional. The New York Strip was a New York Strip, nothing out of the ordinary or unique but well prepared. The Tangerine Crush cocktail was excellent, the Jalapeno Margaritas excellent as well (don't get a seed and don't bite on it unless you like very hot). Drove over from east coast for my son's birthday and to meet his girlfriend. Selva's fit the occasion extremely well.
Our second dinner at the Selva Grill and this time was better than the first (which was fantastic!!!). The martinis were exquisite. The food was cooked perfectly and tasted great with the sauces. The service was excellent: not overly attentive but always there when we needed her. The only distraction was the noise level - hard to hear, we practically had to shout. A tad pricey but definitely well worth it.
I love the food at Selva! One member of our party ordered duck rare and it came well done. Although they offered to replace the order within 7 minutes, she declined so that she would t be eating when everyone was done. The biggest problem I have with Selva is the noise level! So......try an off night and eat outside on the “porch”!
The worst dining experience of my life.
This was one of my favorite restaurants in Sarasota. NO MORE. I picked my wife up from the Tampa airport and was looking forward to a wonderful meal at Selva. We were seated in a small side room with 3 small tables and a large table set for 12.
A large party of 16 arrived with more people than the table could hold and people were standing and leaning over my chair as I tried to enjoy my meal. I finally moved around the table to the banquet and squeezed next to my wife so I could hear her and avoid being jostled. It was a disaster.
The boisterous party overtook the small room and our dining experience was totally ruined. It was like sleeping in a double bed with an elephant.
I spoke to the manager and he was belligerent, explaining that the party was going to sit outside and then he needed to reseat them inside in the small room. Then he offered me dessert. Why would I want to extend my misery?
Why would the restaurant subject their guests to an experience like this? Why didn’t they reserve the small room for the large party and seat us in the main dining room? Given the circumstances, why did they accept my reservation? My meal should have been comped. And I will speak with the owner.
We love Selva Grill. We eat here multiple times during the winter season, often before attending the theatre. The food is different from any other restaurant in town. Check out the menu prior to eating here. We love the variety on the menu, & the beautiful presentation. You can make a meal of the appetizer & salad selections. This is the best Caesar salad you will ever eat, but again, it's a different version from what you would normally expect. The service is always good. We enjoy sitting outside under the covered patio & watching the action go by. It is a high end menu price wise, but worth it for the unusual, but very delicious food.
We loved our experience here - great food, drink and service. I was most impressed by the food offerings, quality of the food and presentation. Our server, Debbie, was very friendly and helpful. It was a busy night, so a little stressed, but Debbie was smiley and friendly and helpful since it was our first visit. We loved the Tuna app, Sea Bass, Salmon, and Chicken Dish was excellent!! The hostess was very nice on a very busy night. Small complaint - the bar service was a bit slow...they couldn't keep up with the traffic.
There were 4 of us and our first visit. Waitress was very helpful in explaining some of the appetizers and entrees. Great choices, we had 2 sea bass (very flavorful) 1 scallop and 1 chicken. The chicken was a big hit so highly recommend it. We will go again
Had a reservation for 2 on NYE. Went into the restaurant after checking out the menu and reading reviews, looked good. We were greated and sat quickly. Our waiter came over to us and the first thing he said was that we had to be out by a certain time for the next seating. It seemed quite rude and unprofessional. We felt rushed before we even looked at the menu. We were also not aware of the “special” NYE menu. It was basically the same menu except every item price was marked up 25% or more. That did not stop us from ordering what we wanted but the quality of the food did not deserve a 25% markup. Paying $50+ for an entree we saw listed online for around $30 didn’t seem right. The rest of the service was good although the timing between courses was fast. We ordered 4 courses with barely any break between. Again we felt rushed. We started with cocktails which were great and had wine with dinner. Not a big selection of wines by the glass but we found one we liked. I would not come back for a holiday dinner or any other day where prices would be marked up. Although the food was good it was not worth the price. I wish we had a better experience for a big holiday dinner.
