Delicious, good service, large portions, and very quiet.
I took my best friend out to this place for dinner. It was smaller than I expected but not too crowded. The servings were very large, we could have split the main course meal (butter chicken) but oveall it was delicious! I would definitely eat here again.
Downtown dining week ... everything was great except for the noisy table a larger group trying to outdo each other with volume ... tough for Select to do much but ... otherwise will return soon
Really nice place with good food and good service.
We came with a groupon to try it out and still felt as valued customers.
Valentine's day dinner. Had a set menu. Soup and appetizers were obviously not made in house. Saltines with soup during a 75$/person meal? Cmon. No class at all.
Entrees were passable but not great. We wanted to go for the Indian food but none of that was available. Desserts were those little Costco cheesecake bites. So disappointed. Looking back we should have left right after the gross appetizers. Service was great though but the kitchen was terrible. Like the Oilers this year.
I went to select for Valentine’s Day and they had a set menu consisting of soup, appetizers, entree and desert, as well as a glass of champagne.Probably the worst service I have ever received. We were waiting 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order and it went downhill from there. We received our starter(tomato soup) which was actually not bad but then waited an hour before anyone even came to check on our table. The next time we saw our server he had our entree’s and had totally forgotten our appetizers. He proceeded to bring our appetizers, which were average at best, which we wolfed down as to avoid our mains from getting cold. We were there for close to three hours and they had only taken our drink order once, which I had only actually gotten because I waved our server down, as he was very disinterested in visiting us at all.
Valentine's set menu overpriced when you don't get to order what you really want.
My wife and I went for a special night out before a concert and had a great time. The ambiance was quite, the service was on point with the waiter being friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was Amazing! We will definitely be going back next time we're in town.
Best Indian food I’ve had in Canada! Overall it was a great experience. We will be going back for sure.
My Partner and I both ordered the lamb shank and unfortunately when they came out we discovered they were both frozen in the center! Not only does that show it was not cooked properly at all, but with the prices they charge, it is unacceptable to be serving frozen food!
I’ve been to Select on numerous occasions and it’s always been very good. The staff are friendly and the food is always fresh. I’ll be back.
Always good, and I am confident taking guests. The service is excellent, the food is also and is consistently tasty.
Incredible food! Great service! Very attentive-let us visit and didn't come over to take our order until we opened our menus, very thoughtful. Always had our waters filled. Great suggestions. The appetizers were accomadated to the size of our group. So delicious. Could have ate just appetizers. No pressure, gluten free options. Engaging. On top of everything and in tune and when we were discussing what something could be on the menu, he came over and told us.
A little cold temperature and ambiance but service good food better than good order spicy and you will find it not too spicy
A real delight and a hidden gem. Welcoming, lovely decor, diverse menu centred on excellent Indian food. I will go back and take friends.
Nice restaurant, food was very good with a nice selection of choices for entrée dishes.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating as there wasn't a kids menu. The coconut naan bread was so delicious I'm happy they made it with no raisins.
Thus is not the same as Cafe Select which used to be. It serves mostly Indian Cuisine and the lighting is kind of dark.
Overpriced, no ambiance. Food was ok but not for the price.
Waiter very attentive.
For a special occasion no offer of comp dessert, or no candles on table or, or.... doesn't take much to make a guest feel special. Not what we expected and certainly not romantic venue as rated.
Outside entrance to restaurant less than attractive. Yes it is cool but shrubbery or lights or....
I found the place unpleasantly outdated, chipped walls and trims, nails sticking out of the walls. It was hard to assess how clean the place is as there was very little light inside. I really don't like when I can't see my food, enjoy not only smell but the color of the food. What striked me right from the beginning is that our cutlery was placed directly on the table, not wrapped in a napkin -I find it very unsanitary. The food was average, steak was blue raw( I ordered medium raw and my husband ordered medium). We enjoyed our appetizer(chicken tikka) and creme brulee.
Spectacular food and attentive staff! We enjoyed the experience very much.
Great meal with great service in a great setting. Will definately be back!
Everything was tasty from appys to main, just dessert of creme brulee was a bit disappointing as it was not the usual ''flamed'' top...service was also really good
Service was great as was good. I would suggest that the he carpet be cleaned
We love that Select offers a "regular" menu as well as a very good selection of South Asian cuisine. Excellent food overall.
Fabulous staff and great authentic east Indian cuisine. Some of the most complex delisous flavours I have had. Highly recommend for a change of pace dining experience.
We were one of the few tables at the restaurant. The main course was extremely slow to get to us. When I hailed the waiter as he walked by to ask about our food, he said in a bothered way, "I'm going to check on it now, it's ready now." (instead of, "it has been a while, very sorry about that, let me ask the kitchen"). The meal still did not come for 10 mins. During dinner, the other couple announced their engagement and we were thrilled. I ordered a bottle of champagne. The waiter poured it into our glasses but that was it. He did not ask what the occasion was (which is totally fine) but he did not return to refill our glasses (when he was doing nothing since there was only one other table in the restaurant that he was not serving). When the meal was over, he did not bring over the bill. I could see him preparing it, very slowly, and meanwhile talking to the female waiter for a long time, until I finally walked over to pay the bill. Again, his reaction was "I was just about to get it to you." Needless to say, I tipped very little and when I discussed with him why, he argued with me, to which I challenged him. He said he was not arguing with me and that he would tell his manager what I said (about the food taking too long- when that wasn't the biggest complaint). The biggest complaint was his lack of attention, lack of consideration, inability to take accountability, hostile reactions). Our main course may have delayed because I asked to have mushroom risotto, which takes longer to prepare, but TELL ME THAT then (and not in an angry way): "The food is taking a little longer in order to prepare the risotto. Thanks for your patience." That's it, I would have understood and been fine with that.I believe this waiter likely has other complaints from guests given I believe it's his disposition rather than a one time occurrence with our table.
Our son made the reservation for us there because we haven't been there before. Food was delicious , service was good, friendly, portions were good, definitely would go back.
Great food, good service. A little off the main path but worth the walk
Server was nice but explained kitchen staff didn't show up and his friend was helping out in the kitchen. Went for lunch, ordered a salad at 12:10 then left at 12:50 as the salad hadn't arrived yet.
Good quality food and service. Quiet atmosphere allows for better discussion with guests. Service is perfect for lunch to get in and out within an hour. Décor could use a little updating.
The food took a while to get to us, but once it was there it was delicious.
I had the marinated chicken with cucumber. It was a good start. The drunken lamb chop with mushroom rice was great. They seem to make their rice dishes with care so they are just as good as the meat portions. The lamb was prepared well and it was complemented with a nice dry Chianti. The dessert of sugar-flower balls and ice cream was simple and delicious. The Indian food here is easily competitive with the rest of Edmonton. It's listed as a second option to the mains at the beginning of the menu but really it's not second tier since the spices and the freshness of the herbs reduces the blandness you might find in other establishments.
Broad variety available but emphasis on Indian food in a quiet and cozy environment.
Server was genuine with his attention to our needs.
We bought a Groupon. We were so happy with the food and service. We weren't treated weird, like so many places do when you have a groupon. We had such a great server, he was so attentive. The food was absolute delicious, the French onion soup was amazing, the bruschetta and chicken tikka was amazing, the 12oz steak was cooked perfect and delicious and the creme brûlée was an excellent finale. We will definitely be back!
The meal was great and surpassed our expectations. They did not skimp in anything. It was a delicious meal
Select has changed their menu since the last time we were there a few years ago. There are both American choices (salads, burgers) and Indian items. My friend and I both really enjoyed the Indian choices we made - Chicken Tikka Masala with naan, rice and Caesar salad for me (a mild, tasty dish) and the Tikka Wrap with soup of the day (cream of mushroom) for her. She loved that soup!
I'm not sure I can advise going for a business lunch because, although there were only about 4-5 other tables seated when we were there, our food took over half an hour to arrive (I'm being generous with this approximation). Other than the slow pace of the order, the server was very prompt and efficient.
The food was fantastic! I got to test exotic dishes which I could not have tried elsewhere. Unfortunately, I found the cleanliness of the walls & table bases left much to be desired which of course makes one wonder what it is like where our eyes cannot see.
We had a fantastic Indian dinner. It was quiet early on a Saturday evening. The patio looked welcoming, but we dined inside where it was quiet. Service was quite good and food was excellent.
