Overpriced, no ambiance. Food was ok but not for the price.
Waiter very attentive.
For a special occasion no offer of comp dessert, or no candles on table or, or.... doesn't take much to make a guest feel special. Not what we expected and certainly not romantic venue as rated.
Outside entrance to restaurant less than attractive. Yes it is cool but shrubbery or lights or....
I found the place unpleasantly outdated, chipped walls and trims, nails sticking out of the walls. It was hard to assess how clean the place is as there was very little light inside. I really don't like when I can't see my food, enjoy not only smell but the color of the food. What striked me right from the beginning is that our cutlery was placed directly on the table, not wrapped in a napkin -I find it very unsanitary. The food was average, steak was blue raw( I ordered medium raw and my husband ordered medium). We enjoyed our appetizer(chicken tikka) and creme brulee.
We were one of the few tables at the restaurant. The main course was extremely slow to get to us. When I hailed the waiter as he walked by to ask about our food, he said in a bothered way, "I'm going to check on it now, it's ready now." (instead of, "it has been a while, very sorry about that, let me ask the kitchen"). The meal still did not come for 10 mins. During dinner, the other couple announced their engagement and we were thrilled. I ordered a bottle of champagne. The waiter poured it into our glasses but that was it. He did not ask what the occasion was (which is totally fine) but he did not return to refill our glasses (when he was doing nothing since there was only one other table in the restaurant that he was not serving). When the meal was over, he did not bring over the bill. I could see him preparing it, very slowly, and meanwhile talking to the female waiter for a long time, until I finally walked over to pay the bill. Again, his reaction was "I was just about to get it to you." Needless to say, I tipped very little and when I discussed with him why, he argued with me, to which I challenged him. He said he was not arguing with me and that he would tell his manager what I said (about the food taking too long- when that wasn't the biggest complaint). The biggest complaint was his lack of attention, lack of consideration, inability to take accountability, hostile reactions). Our main course may have delayed because I asked to have mushroom risotto, which takes longer to prepare, but TELL ME THAT then (and not in an angry way): "The food is taking a little longer in order to prepare the risotto. Thanks for your patience." That's it, I would have understood and been fine with that.I believe this waiter likely has other complaints from guests given I believe it's his disposition rather than a one time occurrence with our table.
I had the marinated chicken with cucumber. It was a good start. The drunken lamb chop with mushroom rice was great. They seem to make their rice dishes with care so they are just as good as the meat portions. The lamb was prepared well and it was complemented with a nice dry Chianti. The dessert of sugar-flower balls and ice cream was simple and delicious. The Indian food here is easily competitive with the rest of Edmonton. It's listed as a second option to the mains at the beginning of the menu but really it's not second tier since the spices and the freshness of the herbs reduces the blandness you might find in other establishments.
We bought a Groupon. We were so happy with the food and service. We weren't treated weird, like so many places do when you have a groupon. We had such a great server, he was so attentive. The food was absolute delicious, the French onion soup was amazing, the bruschetta and chicken tikka was amazing, the 12oz steak was cooked perfect and delicious and the creme brûlée was an excellent finale. We will definitely be back!
Select has changed their menu since the last time we were there a few years ago. There are both American choices (salads, burgers) and Indian items. My friend and I both really enjoyed the Indian choices we made - Chicken Tikka Masala with naan, rice and Caesar salad for me (a mild, tasty dish) and the Tikka Wrap with soup of the day (cream of mushroom) for her. She loved that soup!
I'm not sure I can advise going for a business lunch because, although there were only about 4-5 other tables seated when we were there, our food took over half an hour to arrive (I'm being generous with this approximation). Other than the slow pace of the order, the server was very prompt and efficient.
The food was fantastic! I got to test exotic dishes which I could not have tried elsewhere. Unfortunately, I found the cleanliness of the walls & table bases left much to be desired which of course makes one wonder what it is like where our eyes cannot see.
I came here to take my boyfriend out on a nice date and we were so impressed! We got so much food for what we paid for and the service was incredible! I already am planning to take my father here for fathers day and have many more amazing meals here, (and at home because they deliver!!). Both my boyfriend and i are not big on desserts at restaurants but having the dessert here is definitely a MUST. It's delicious! I am very happy with this place and I'd recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.
I have been to this restaurant a couple times for lunch in the last month. Food is excellent for a good price. Several years ago I had a couple of bad experiences at this restaurant under the previous owners. Way overpriced and food wasn't that great.
I'm very glad I tried it again recently, as the new owners serve really great food with excellent service. If you haven't been here for a while try it!
We went there for dinner. It is now my understanding that the place is better for lunch as I found that it wasn't exactly cheap for dinner. The naan being $5 for instance is a bit much. There wasn't a ton of choice either on the dinner menu. Having said that, the food was good.
I thought it was going to be a Sunday brunch, so was a bit disappointed, but that was my fault. I had French Onion soup--the flavour of the soup was wonderful, but the cheese/bread topping wasn't terribly well done. Presentation of all their food was very nice, and everything was very fresh. It would be a very reasonable place to go for dinner if having the Indian dishes--which are for the most part $14.95. Service was good, but restaurant was mostly empty.
Great menu choices, we decided to order from the Indian Entree page ( they also have a whole page of Indian Appys!! ) My Prawns were excellent, my friends Butter Chicken as well. We ordered Jeera Rice and Naan to accompany. Two dishes in the middle of the table were sufficient for sharing. Chai Tea was made fresh, and my glass faithfully replenished from the teapot by a watchful server. He was very helpful explaining their specialties, and the difference between three pepper hot and two pepper hot symbols. Highly recommended!
