Our favorite restaurant in Boston. Amazing fish dishes, always so fresh and delicious. never disappoints
Food is always ABOVE average! Less crowded for lunch.
Nice place to have dinner with friends or even with business partners
Took my family and service was so great that my 10 year old was willing to try oysters . The server was so calm patient understanding that we had 2 rounds of oysters .
My daughter was able so see how they were prepared, and she brought them to our table.
Also had lobster rolls an two fish items from the menu, and they were also amazing!!!!
Great service and great food. Recommend to anyone looking for seafood with a twist
Awesome seafood. Great staff, very clean
A must! I will go back again
The food is excellent the people are great and make you feel comfortable
the greeting to the restaurant is not great there is a sign on the glass before you walk that asks that you wait to be seated. There is no hostess stand and the hostess was running back and forth and took a few minutes to get to great us. This in itself was fine but it was more the fact that we were early the restaurant was empty and she told us she could not seat us at a table till our reservation. She did offer us the bar which we were fine with but she made a point to tell us how long we had the table till. This is a pet peeve of mine as I hate to feel rushed before I even start my meal. As for the food I loved the special and the crab salad but the crab really was in need of a cracker, bread or chip, same with the tartar. The steak we ordered became soaked in dressing and my husband did not touch more then a few bites of it. My husband started to tell the bartender/ waitress that it was not good but she took off as soon as he said he didn’t want a box. The check was dropped off to the table as soon as she came back. It all felt very impersonal. While the food was good it was not great . I feel like the atmosphere will be what makes us not return.
Fantastic, as always! Such a fun place with amazing food and a great wine list. Always a must for us when we are in Boston
Lobster roll 👍🏻👌🏻
Bartender was great with tricky requests and food never disappoints! Love this tiny spot for oysters and specialty cocktails and trying creative fresh seafood options on small plates.
I was excited to go to Select Oyster Bar because I'd heard so many great things. Unfortunately, the first thing we noticed was how loud it was. You had to shout to be heard across the table. This was on a Wednesday night. Most of us ordered the halibut. It was good, but definitely didn't live up to the hype. One of us had the lobster salad. Considering the $42 price tag, we can only describe it as a disappointment. Finally, at the end of the meal, our server informed us that the restaurant didn't serve dessert or coffee. What?
One item that didn't disappoint was the raw bar. Absolutely the freshest oysters I've ever had. We'd also like to commend the restaurant for its service. They were terrific accommodating our reservation and our server was excellent.
To be clear, this is a good restaurant.....but, when you're expecting great, merely being "good" is a let down.
Some of the freshest seafood anywhere; phenomenal service -Gina, Andrew, Josh. One of our all time favorites.
Excellent seafood based menu, including oyster selection, nice choice of wines and very good service. Fairly loud with less than comfortable seating in the back area, but other factors outweighed this.
Service amazing! Food quite good, very noisy as it’s small space filled with people
Really missed the mark for us. Disappointed since it was our anniversary dinner. The service was nice but food missed the mark. Lacked real flavor and fell flat.
OUTSTANDING dinner! The oysters were fresh and crisp and the fish was cooked perfectly. It is a tight space so make reservations and expect to sit at the bar if a couple. Don't let this turn you off. The food and service are exceptional.
Outstandingly fresh and well prepared seafood, some of the best I've ever had. As a party of two, we were seated at the bar (as are all parties of two), so we had a good time conversing with the bartenders and waiters. The wines by the glass are excellent and diverse, easy to find a good match for whatever you're eating. After a dozen excellent oysters, my wife had the swordfish and I had the arctic char. Both were great. We will definitely be back.
We have been to Select Oyster Bar several times and it is our favorite Seafood restaurant in Boston. Small and intimate and can be tough to get in without a reservation but the food is creative and the fish incredibly well prepared and fresh. Try and of the ceviche or crudo and you will agree. Beet salad is awesome. And this most recent visit, we had 4 separate entrees and all were fantastic. Highly recommend.
Food was absolutely delicious! And the atmosphere was fun and alive!
Host greeted us with “You are tardy for your reservation, so just know that your seats are booked immediately after you.” We showed up at 6:07 for a 6:00 reservation. Website states that they will hold a reservation for 15 minutes, if you will be later please call ahead. Pretty standard practice.
This totally set the tone and completely ruined our enjoyment of otherwise delicious food and great service from the bar staff. We finished our meal at 7 (next booking 7:30). Thought about getting a few more oysters and another drink, but decided to go elsewhere. We will never return.
Great place and nice staff. Food was good and very fresh seafood. Bartender was friendly and mixed great drinks! GO BLUE!
Our first visit and we LOVED the restaurant!
I thoroughly enjoyed my enjoy. The service staff was amazing. The oysters were amazing. best I tried so far. The shucker did a great good and looked really experienced.
Good food. Very noisy
My husband and I loved Select. Sat at the bar (which he normally isn't a big fan of) and enjoyed chatting with the staff - they are positive, knowledgeable and friendly. We had the Select - oysters (nice selection, very fresh), shrimp (done just right), blue crab salad (I am not a big fennel fan, this salad was amazing), lobster (we're from Maine and this preparation was some of the best we have ever had) and scallop ceviche (I am not a big fan of raw scollops- this changed my mind). We could not finish all of the salads, although we tried. It says serves 2-4 and it could have certainly served 4. We could not eat another thing, which is too bad because the menu, while not large, had more amazing dishes we would have like to try.
Definitely make a reservation - not a large place. It was loud, but sitting at the bar we could carry on a conversation.
We'll be back! New favorite in the Back Bay area.
Too much noise, not able to have a proper conversation because of the noice. The food was fine.
The only drawback was that all parties of 2 are seated at the bar. That was not what we expected.
The noise level in the small back dining room was off the charts high! Noise is fine but all conversation at yelling level .. too much!!
great food, no nonesense or attitude service. Great ambiance. Overall fun Boston back bay restaurant. Currently my favorite fish restaurant. Going back soon
Awesome food! We enjoyed chatting with the bartender who graduated from the same college as my husband. Small world as we are from Cincinnati!
Dinner was incredible! Only negative would be that seating at the bar is tight... we had people next to us on both sides and kept getting bumped by their elbows.
Outstanding fresh seafood in a lively bar setting. Friendly and knowledgeable servers.
Great food. Great vibe. Great fun. We love this place!
Food was good but not outstanding. Very overpriced. Although it does have a great atmosphere and vibe.
Love this place. Great service and inventive food.
The octopus, sea bream and sword fish were all very good. The wines are rather expensive, but at the lower end the Bourgogne Pinot noire was quite nice.
I like the quality of the food and the service but it is becoming a little stale. The menu has not changed in years although they generally offer a couple of daily specials (one app and one entrée). For an expensive restaurant, one should expect a little more. Perhaps the owners have a short time horizon and are simply milking the (successful) formula.
Convenient location in Boston. Oysters were outstanding with a great selection. Dinner was great but the lobster salad was a major disappointment. Attentive service. Expensive but worth it!
Outstanding food and service! The best seafood ever!
