Select Cut Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately, this place is like stepping back in time. You get a pricey unseasoned protein with a mound of rice and boiled veg.
The crab cakes were ok but a bit too fishy. The salad is about as interesting as you would get from a pizza delivery place.
Service was ok.
I will definitely not go back!
Filet mignon, french onion soup, swordfish, & burgers were great. Veggies & fries were also cooked to perfection. Waiter was very kind & attentive. Made a mistake with one of our drinks, but was apologetic & quick to retrieve the right one (& let us keep the first, no charge). Love the old-timey store-front appearance. We went on a Wednesday night, so it was quiet enough to enjoy a ball game. Couldn't hear the other conversations in the room, so liked that also. Very reasonable prices for the quality of the food.
This restaurant has gone DOWNHILL.... if you are in the mood for a frozen tasting piece of grey meat that will have to be sent back twice.... have a good time.
if you are in mood for a shrimp cocktail that tasted like it had freezer burn...have a good time
plus.. if you are expecting a classic caesar salad that tastes like something off the line at the Golden Corral... have a good time.
For the prices they were charging it was terrible
save your dollars to your dinner and go to a REAL steakhouse downtown like Bavettes or Chop House.
A friend and I went to Select Cut for the prime rib on a Saturday. We ordered our drinks which the waiter didn't bring until I had to ask for them. We were never asked if we would have liked another drink. The food and atmosphere were just ok. I think there are better options for the amount of money we spent.
Bone-in New York Strip Sirloin was one of the specials of the evening, so we indulged ourselves. Delicious! Perfect medium rare as ordered. Steamed veggies done to perfection were a nice addition. Fries and caesar salad were adequate, though nothing special. Warm bread to start was excellent! Beer/wine/cocktail selection is very good, allowing the diner to choose just the right drink for the meal. Service was exceptional! We were looking for an unhurried experience with minimal interruptions and Lee gave us EXACTLY that! Well done!!!
We found this gem a few years ago looking for somewhere to go on my husband's birthday and we were very pleased with our find. This visit was for my daughter's birthday and we were not disappointed. Excellent food! The only thing that we did not like was the sports TV, it spoiled the ambiance! That was a spoiler!!
Food and service excellent. Also liked the white table cloths and the generous table spacing. Both dining rooms a bit plain and dated. It wouldn't take much to upgrade them and make the atmosphere more compatible with the excellent food and service. Looking forward to our next visit.
Supporting another's review below: "The place is worn and outdated. We sat on the side of the restaurant where there is a small bar. The place has a musty smell thought out. The service was good but then again there were only 2 other people in the place. The food was below average. The wine list is small and not the best selections."
The last part is not true: they had one of my favorite wines which was great.
The service was outstanding! However, the food was definitely sub-par. Ribs were completely dry. So disappointing.
No one greeted us as we walked through the other side of the restaurant. We confusingly roamed to the other side, and were suggested to sit next to the door (it was 30 degrees). We opted to sit at the table \was least littered by boxed Christmas lights they were in the process of putting up... in the middle of serving dinner.
What threw off the night was the couple sitting at the table next to us. No joke - the woman's cell phone rang LOUDLY more than three times. Each time she received a message, her phone dinged, over ten times. She was on her phone the entire dinner. Normally, a couple of notifications here are there wouldn't bother me, but it became so obnoxious I had to chuckle aloud a couple of times during dinner and wonder if I was in the Twilight Zone...
Overall, I wouldn't recommend.
I was steard to Select Cut last year by the conceierge at my hotel after a disastrous meal at one of the big steak houses downtown. It's located in a great neighborhood on Halstead. I was recently there on business with a group of associate who wanted the Chicago steak experience without the crazy price. I reserved us a table at Seclect Cut and my party was served a great meal at a really reasonable price. The menu has the option of a "pick two" items so it's an option to get steak and lobster or crab legs. I had the classic New York strip which was grilled to perfection and served with perfectly saluted green beans. My whole party was more than satisfied with the quality, service and the price. Thanks again Select Cut. You are a neighborhood gem!
I love this place. Really high quality food and excellent service. The owner is very nice, down-to-earth. Value is exceptional. Wine selection is just OK but they have a few good bottles not on the regular menu. This place needs more business--try it out, you'll be happy you did.
Delicious food -- we all loved our steaks! It's expensive, but not as crazy-expensive as most downtown steak houses. You get the potato and vegetable WITH the steak, and don't have to pay separately for every side dish, as with many other restaurants. The service is very friendly, but they don't hover. We went here last year for a birthday, and came back again this year. The desserts were very good, too -- the carrot cake, chocolate mousse cake and a chocolate sundae! We would return again for another special occasion.
Was looking for a good steak house in the area and a chef from a local restaurant recommended this place. Went on a Monday night. The place is worn and outdated. We sat on the side of the restaurant where there is a small bar. The place has a musty smell thought out. The service was good but then again there were only 2 other people in the place. The food was below average. The wine list is small and not the best selections – at least for red. Pricey for the food and location. They could use the help of Gordon Ramsay.
