Yakitori Tori Shin - Select Counter
Please note this is a special section of Torishin and if you are looking for regular seating, please visit the other site. Please be advised this section is for adults only.
My go 2 place, any time I make it to NYC. Been coming here for years, first the Upper East Side, now Hell’s Kitchen. It does not make a difference what part of the restaurant you eat in, your food will be amazing. If course the Select Counter is extra special!Chef Kono, is Amazing.
See you next time !
Torishin's been on my radar since I heard about the first Michelin Starred Yakitori restaurant. The meal was very well paced with inidividual skewers coming out along with a description from the chefs who were all very knowledgeable of their ingredients. The staff was also very helpful and responsive. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with was their sake list was a bit short and they only had two types of beer. I think a large ice cold proper draught beer would have complimented the meal very nicely.
All said, I'll definitely be returning to try out the rest of the menu.
Amazing food and good entertainment. You sit at the counter and watch the chefs cook and serve you. Easily the most interesting cuts of chicken I’ve ever had, served to you straight off the grill. Don’t be frightened by some of the more unusual cuts (such as the chicken artery), as they are some of the tastiest. Every single thing they served was perfectly cooked and delicious. Extremely attentive service, and a nice drink menu of regional sake, shochu, and whiskey from Japan.
Wanted my Brother and sister in-law to experience the incredible food at Torishin. They are now ruined for life. As my Brother said “What are we going to do when we get home?” Nowhere in Massachusetts can compete with Torishin. I told them, just come to NYC 4 times a year! The food is always a combination of complex, and simple. Difficult to describe, until you experience it. Thumbs up to Torishin and Chef Kono!
My third time at Tori Shin—the group sitting next to ours had been here multiple times as well. First time for me at the counter, and it did not disappoint! The Hatsumoto (the muscle underneath the heart) was excellent, as was the chicken-duck blend of Tsukune. We chose the wagyu beef special which was delicious! The group next to us had the scallops from Hokkaido, and loved it. Justin, our chef, was very helpful in explaining the cuts of chicken, the cooking methods, and which condiments to eat the yakitori skewers with. It feels like you are in Japan without having to buy a plane ticket.
Amazing dinner experience! Pricey but worth every penny
Torishin is an amazing, unique experience even for NYC. Take your seat at the Counter, and enjoy Masters at work, creating culinary delights based on parts and ingredients you may not be used to. Service is outstanding, too.
I loved the ambiance of the chefs table. The head chef and his assistant were extremely attentive and the servers were on point. Each course had something unique to offer. The meat was cooked to perfection and extremely tender. Each piece had the perfect amount of char and seasoning. My favorites were the grilled tile fish, chicken thigh, iberico pork shoulder with spicy garlic miso, the white squid tempura topped with uni, and I could go on and on oh yeah and the duck and chicken sausage with egg yolk. You will not be hungry at the end of the courses! I went for my birthday meal and all of the staff was friendly and welcoming. They made it a truly wonderful experience!
Friendly staff and tasty food.
Great food and service! You can experience real good Japanese cuisine.
An impressive and memorable eating experience consisting of surprising and tasty variations of skewered chicken parts well modulated by toothsome little offerings of sea food and red meat, all provided graciously and informatively in a quiet atmosphere with the focus properly and item by item on the food. Excellent dry sake also available.
This is a favorite of mine. Wish I lived closer. Amazing food and great staff, Chef Kono is not to be missed.
It was like being in a high end Tokyo eatery but the chef and staff actually spoke English. Delicious and authentic .
Always Great food, Great service, Great dinner
Wonderful select omakase dinner!
Great not only Yakitori but also High quality Fish from Japan.
I felt Torishin Select Counter is the truly Michelin Star Restaurant and the real Japanese food culture.
Always an amazing experience. The only negative thing was that they called they day before to see about food allergies and I told them that my husband was allergic to fish. The omakase itself didn't have any fish but numerous parts of the appetizers did. I'm not complaining since I got to eat mine and his, but I did feel bad that he couldn't eat any of the appetizers.
In the end, this is our go-to restaurant for any special occasion (and also just for a delicious meal for the sake of a delicious meal). It is probably my favorite restaurant in NYC and we always enjoy our meals immensely when we come.
Our favorite restaurant in New York!
Value for dollar is not good at all. Basically some chicken parts (probably some of the same 'parts' that went into the chicken nuggets) seasoned with salt pepper and either sake, olive oil or butter and tossed on a grill. Was not impressed with anything except for the sashimi. Even the ramen was just 'meh'. Noodles were over cooked and the broth tasted like canned that you tossed some old veggies in and cooked for a while. Would not go back. One minor thing, the check came with suggested percentage gratuities calculated. They calculated on the entire bill including tax so their 20% calculation was actually closer to 22%.
The "select counter" omakase is an exceptional, memorable dining experience—Tori Shin does incredible things with chicken (you won't believe how good the liver is), but they are also really great with other dishes as well. In June, the tasting menu included some perfectly grilled vegetables and some tempura ayu (sweetfish, which you don't see often in the US). A really wonderful meal.
As someone who dreams about visiting Japan to experience the cuisine a trip to Yakatori Shin Ton is a dream come true. The Select Counter Omakase was understated yet perfect. From the tempura, to the incredible chicken skewers ( artery is a new favorite) to the simple and pure shiso sorbet -- all great and what will know be the standard for yakitori going forward.
Tori Shin brings something different to foodies. The chef's counter Prix Fixe is courses of robata skewers specializing in chicken parts and Kobe. Each skewer part is prepared differently with unique sauces brushed on and spices applied. Each course is 1 skewer, but you do not leave hungry at all! The pace is calculated and not rushed. The interaction with the Chef Master is friendly and engaging. The sake selections are great, but pricey so pick accordingly, but you won't go wrong and the cold sake is a great accompaniment.
With all the amazing culinary choices in NYC, Tori Shin separates themselves with a different experience and a gastric delight.
Incredible experience and wonderful chefs! They prepare very unique parts of the chicken that I otherwise would have never eaten nor ordered (neck, artery, etc). They turned out to be amazing!
Had dinner at the Select Counter for our anniversary dinner. The menu was well thought out and surprisingly filling. The yakitori is definitely the highlight. Every skewer of chicken was grilled and seasoned to perfection.
The chef is really nice and the food are good. It is kind of crowd their
Torishin is one of my favorites in NYC and the select counter is a definite step up from the main dining room. Chef Ikeda serves a more exotic set of dishes at the select counter which are all sublime. The overall experience is more intimate relative to the main dining room and the Chef is personable and entertaining. Highly recommended!
This was our second time to Yakitori Tori Shin, and first time eating at the counter. The food was fantastic, and the experience was even better. The skewers were predictably delicious, especially the main artery and the chicken oyster. What surprised me was the other dishes. They were beautifully executed. My boyfriend described the ramen as the best he ever ate.
Best yakitori in NYC. Highly recommnend the Chef's counter; impressed not only w/ the yakitori, but also all the small appetizers preceding the yakitori dishes.
the good thing about tori shin is they doing some special menu on counter and never have any experience with tori like that one word 素晴らしいです。
Atsushi is fantastic , as are his team !
I highly recommend this restaurant, and I have always had the best of meals and wvenings here.
perfect experience with the executive chef. I'll would like to come again even I'm living 600mi away from the restaurant
It always amazing me and surprised me!
Chef Atsushi Kono is best chef for my life!
I often go every 2-3 months when I visit in NY!
Best yakitori restaurant l have ever been to including ones in Japan.
Excellent food quality and presentation. Attention to detail in all aspect of food and service is impeccable.
My wife and I went there for New Year's Eve and had the fixed price menu. The staff checked with us regarding food allergies/restrictions. The chefs gave explanations for each dish. Two chefs and one waitress attended to four guests. We were there for over an hour and did not feel rushed. We enjoyed the food and the experience.
This was a fantastic yakatori dinner, chefs were very engaging and great service throughout the whole evening
