We’ve been to Selannie’s several times with our children. This time was different, as.my daughter and I ordered filet’s, and they were well seasoned and cooked properly, but was a round cut, not a filet. It's important not to do that, as avid diners do notice. We will go elsewhere from now on.
Such an amazing experience! We were in town visiting family and took a night away for a much needed date! Food, service, and drinks were fantastic!
We enjoyed our meal very much. Our waiter was helpful and gave excellent advice about the menu. The one negative part of our evening was because we were seated in the tavern area, which at one point became crowded with a group of businessmen and women waiting for their table, who seemed utterly oblivious to us and were crowding around us talking loudly. But the wait staff was very understanding and helped us to a different table so we could enjoy the rest of our meal. The food we had was all excellent, and the drinks were equally enjoyable.
this was our second time at Selanne's both times a special occasion. Food is incredible, service outstanding !
We both got 8 oz filet and they were great. Tender meat with great seasoning. the mac & cheese was very good along with the other sides we got which were asparagus and mashed potatoes.
Thoroughly enjoyed our birthday celebration at Selanne's. The service was impeccable, food and drinks unique and delicious. The filets just melt in your mouth! Our wait staff was amazing and so attentive, cannot say how much we enjoyed this dining experience. We will be back soon!
Fantastic dining experience! Waiters Jesse & Jared were the BEST. Beet Ravioli salad was extra special as was the “donuts (beignets) & coffee cream dessert. Hat Trick martini fun for my wife. Upstairs tables are intimate. Great food, great service, great wine list-perfect for anniversary or just to celebrate anytime.
The food, like the service, was superb. Perfectly prepared steaks and side dishes. Creative and delicious.
A perfect evening, great food and excellent service. This is a steakhouse that hits all the marks.
Great food, quaint place with nice staff. We would return!
This was our 3rd visit. Though touted for quality beef, our steaks have been inconsistent and underwhelming. Not worth the hype, nor the price. Best thing we ate were vegetable side dishes. Our advice? Go to Fleming's or Morton's!!!
Worth the price!! Beat meal I’ve had in a long time!! Staff was excellent and everything was amazing!
Great food and excellent service. The only negative was the tight quarters where we were seated. Other guests and the servers were constantly bumping my chair.
Went to celebrate an anniversary-Jesse was an awesome server-all staff great!
Have always wanted to try this place so resturant week was the perfect excuse . It did not disappoint . EVERYTHING was outstanding . We will definitely be going back.
Our dinner was so special. Such a lovely meal and fabulous service. We hope to go back soon!
Food was extremely good - some of the best steak I've ever enjoyed. The server was knowledgeable and descriptive.
However, we visited on a Monday night that was not very busy, yet the hostess was unable to seat us in the bar area for an hour, though a table has been open there the entire time we waited.
This place was absolutely phenomenal, Teemu was great on the ice...but the man knows his steaks!! Stephen our server was friendly, knowledgeable in recommendations, made our birthday/engagement dinner so memorable.
Great experience! Service was amazing! The staff was so professional and the food was delicious.
First time here. Ambience is warm and inviting. Wait staff is friendly and professional. They were very attentive to our every whim for a table of 4. Food was excellent. I had the rib eye which was a very good. Wife had bison which was very good - not gamey. Prawn and scallop appetizers were excellent. Didn't care for the risotto but the mac and cheese was outstanding! Would definitely come back. We love Mastro's - Food is as good for sure. Restaurant is smaller and more intimate. Go hear to impress a date.
There aren't enough of stars to give Selanne the rating it deserves . To me it is a 10!! Best service in all of OC and else where. Amazing chef , who is willing to do it "your way". All the serving staff is outstanding. Just the best dining experience we have had in a long time.
Thank you for the great service. the table for two upstairs was perfect. I look forward to bring my whole family back soon for a fun evening
The restaurant was nicely decorated and comfortable as we went there for my Bday.
Most of the dinner was very good but I especially went there for the steak and I had
the flank steak. I asked for it to be medium to more to the cooked side. The meat was
so rare was not easy to cut, chewy and there was no real taste to the meat. I have had much
better steaks at Gulfstream and Capital Grille so that was disappointing.
My new favorite place to go for date night. Delicious food, excellent service and wonderful ambiance. I shall return... again and again... :)
The food and service was amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly.
Wonderful ambience ... a real retreat ... with cool, relaxed vibe in South Orange County. Obsessive attention to detail ... in service, food, and drink. I don't believe I have ever had a better steak and my wife still raves about the short ribs. The sides were plentiful and delicious ... in fact, we couldn't and didn't stop at two. Great wine list and craft cocktail menu ... my wife says to try the Hat Trick ... and after tasting hers, I heartily agree! I had a good friend tell me that the owner, and former NHL star, Teemu Salanne, makes everyone better on the gold course ... I can say he makes everyone ... from server to chef ... better .... and on top of their game at his restaurant.
Being from Winnipeg,MB Canada, this was my second experience at Selanne Steak Tavern. My visits were 4 years apart but in the same table! Dinner was amazing to say the least. The staff are very attentive, knowledgeable and personable. My only regret is that I live too far to come more often! I would highly recommend to eat here, and it was become a must dine when I visit California.
I took my wife to Selanne Steak Tavern to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional. The ambiance was good. It was a little louder that I would have liked but not to the point of being obnoxious. We ordered the King Charles cut ( i think that was what it was called) 38 oz bone in steak for two. It was a good steak and the Bordelaise sauce was amazing. The brussel sprouts and mac & cheese were the best I have had. The servers were prompt without being intrusive. Although on the pricey side, I will go back for other special events. Highly recommend Selanne Steak Tavern
This is a great restaurant. Really nice decor, high quality food and professional servers. Note. The noise level was quiet as we were in the upstairs which is a small space with a few tables and it wasn't full. We'll go here again if we are in the area!
Best restaurant I've ever been!! Everything is so amazing
Once we were seated, dinner was very nice. However, the maître d’ and the reservation process left the distinct impression that the restaurant was doing me a favor allowing me to eat there. When I made the reservation, I asked that we not be seated in the bar area. My request was accommodated but only after a lengthy disclaimer that they could not promise this. Moreover, when we arrived at 6 PM instead of 6:30 PM, our reservation time, the maître d’ was going to make us wait even though the restaurant was not full. It was offputting and I will not be back anytime soon.
This restaurant has been on my radar for quite some time now and I'm so glad to have finally tried it. I'm a big fan of the restaurant's namesake (despite being a Kings fan) so was pleased to have a positive experience here. I love the atmosphere, decor and aesthetic. We were seated at a prime table at the window in the wine room and it felt much more intimate and cozy than the rest of the restaurant. Our server, whose name I wish I had grabbed, was awesome from start to finish. The bread we started off with was delicious. Then we had the following: lobster pot pie, kumamoto and fanny bay oysters, foie gras, and rib eye (I elected to have the bordelaise on the side, which I did not regret) with mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts for sides. We finished off our meal with some coffee and monkey bread dessert. Couldn't complain about a single bite.
As my husband and I were leaving, we noticed the cute patio area with Moroccan style lanterns and cozy fireplace. I'd love to have dinner there next time around. It's much quieter than dining inside.
This was undoubtedly a very decadent meal and not one to be enjoyed regularly if you're watching your waistline (or pocketbook), but it certainly was enjoyable in every aspect (ambiance, food, service). Mr. Selanne has a fine establishment here! My hope is that I'll be able to tell him so in person at his restaurant some day. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
Such a nice place to celebrate a special occasion!!! Superb service, our waiter Miguel gave us his suggestions and everything was so good !
Will definitely come back and recommend this place to my family and friends!
It’s the best place
We go as often as possible
Going again next weekend
Group of 4 for Valentine's Day. Had a Valentine's Day dinner menu, however all 4 diners would have to order from it. My wife had some recent dental work that would not justify choosing the Valentine menu, therefore we all had to choose from the regular menu which we did reluctantly. We saw a promotion that stated there would be a wine pairing offer, however we were told when we ordered dinner that the wine pairing was not available. My wife ordered the one pound lobster. What she got was about 12 oz of shell, about 1 oz of Ritz cracker filler and about 3 oz of lobster meat. For $50 it was very disappointing.
We had tried this restaurant 2 years ago on Valentine's Day and had a nice meal, but this year was not nearly as good. Sorry!
We're visiting from chicago - the land of steakhouses. And I must say, this is probably among top 3 favs. The scallops were incredible. Steak with champagne reduction sauce on side. Anything with champagne. And the Brussel sprouts were top notch as well. Loved the atmosphere. Staff was extremely friendly and not pushy. Let us take our time. I hope to be back next visit!!
We celebrated my husband’s birthday - had excellent service, great food and an overall memorable celebration.
Excellent restaurant, great ambiance. The food was wonderful and staff knowledgeable and attentive. Great place for casual drinks at the bar or a special evening at a romantic table. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Laguna Beach.
Very respectable joint, but at $98 for 8oz steak, the expectations are very high
