Both the Escargot appetizer and the Duck a la Orange were poor. The Duck was overcooked.
Authentic French and everything that implies. First-rate service. Latest meal was from February's special 'wild game' menu (I had venison/wild boar sausage, then venison osso buco; excellent!). Highly recommended.
We were a group of 9. The food, and service were outstanding. The selection and choices were plenty for everyone. All of us had a terrific time and will definitely return.
I came for the frogs legs, but there were none. I had the duck a l'orange instead. Very tasty! Always a very good menu, very good food! Kudos to the chef!
Food was good bistro fare and fairly priced but not outstanding. Good wine list and knowledgeable service. An old standby NYC neighborhood bistro for safe good dining.
Great neighborhood stalwart restaurant, and delicious food, nice selection of wines and good value. The head waiter/maitre’d has been there a long time and is a great person.
The food was good, but nothing special. The Prix fixe is the best value.
It is one of our neighborhood’s best restaurants and my husband and I love it for a quiet dinner or a celebration with the family or friends. The food is consistently excellent and the service impeccable.
Vive la France...Wonderful pate, classic french fare...loved every bite
Lovely Sunday Brunch with a friend.
Every dish we ordered (duck, linguine, striped bass, mussels) was perfectly prepared and delicious. The staff was attentive and really kind and made our special occasion feel that way. Thank you Sel et Poivre — already can’t wait to come back!
This is our favorite restaurant in NYC. It's an excellent place for great food and friendly service.
The most attentive service, old-world style, and classically-prepared dishes. A very pleasant meal overall.
It was a very nice and cozy place , food was good , and the service quick, would have appreciated a different kind of music as we expected it being French to have not exclusively french music but something more varied than just south american potpurri this we didnt think gave it a plus. the rest food wise was ok . service was correct and quick.
This has been a favorite restaurant for us for years whenever we are in New York.
One of the most welcoming spots in New York. Exactly what a corner French bistro was meant to be - warm, open, comfortable, good food and wine. A neighborhood treasure.
I eat here whenever I’m in the city. Food is always delicious. The staff has been there a long time and recognize me making me feel welcome.
Good evening and food. Only complaint was lamb stew was the special and much more expensive than the other dishes. The portion was extremely small while the other entees were normal size
Our new favorite in New York City. Can't wait to return.
This is a well established French restaurant that is consistently good with friendly waiters and an ambience that is ideal for an evening with friends and for conversation. Prices are reasonable for quality food on the upper east side.
Great place to go. Food only surpassed by the service. Friendly, warm, enjoyable, management/staff always remember us. It's your local spot to relax and to enjoy the atmosphere while dining and chatting with family and frieneds.
Restaurant has been here forever , has a cosy French neighborhood atmosphere but the food was very disappointing. My friend’s mussels were full of sand & my chicken sandwich consisted of ordinary “store-bought” bread, ice berg lettuce, colorless tasteless tomato and thick sliced chicken breast. Less than ho-hum
All was fine but the server said he was instructed not to accept the Open Table awards card.
Terribly confused after a lovely dinner.
Bistro menu, good variety, nicely cooked, good value
Sel et Poivre is the perfect New York neighborhood restaurant. The owners and staff are gracious and welcoming, the French bistro cuisine is authentic and diverse. This is a place that, quite simply, makes me happy.
Had the Pot a Fue, very nice. Portion was not huge, woild have been happier if therehad been more mmashed potatoes and spinach as sides. Tables are VERY close together.
The service was excellent and the food was very very good. Can't wait to return.
Food not good
It is always a pleasure to dine there. Attentive and friendly service with reliably good food.
The food was delicious. The services always was excellent. My friend enjoyed her first visit to this local restaurant. We will return.
