Charming French bistro. Good menu. We were a party of three and everyone picked something different and enjoyed it. Service is very smooth.

My husband and I dined here recently and we loved the small, intimate French bistro atmosphere. We had drinks and a delicious meal of duck pate, skate, and duck a l'orange. My only recommendation would be for the chef to omit the rice that accompanied the entrees. It adds nothing to the meal and in fact, we both felt it detracted from the appeal of the otherwise deliciously prepared dishes. Next time, I would ask the waiter to omit the rice from my plate and perhaps see if more vegetables could be substituted in its place.

Sel et Poivre is an old favorite and a relic of old New York dating, I'm sure, back to the 40s and unchanged since. One of the last of the old neighborhood French restaurants, it is quiet and sedate without being the least bit stuffy. All the tables seat four; none of those horrid slabs for two! Friendly, professional service and very good food, they even have a $31 prix fixe!

Always great, food and service. The artichoke is amazing. Great relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reasonable as well.

Enjoyed our evening at Sel & Poivre. Of course the wine special didn't hurt, since we were able to finish off a full bottle, not just a few glasses. My husband loved the leg of lamb and the green bean salad. I admired (and enjoyed) the celery root, beet salad and salmon. We were greeted by a charming hostess who was upbeat despite the weather. We learned she is one of the owners. We didn't take photos - not our thing - but the place is charming and a respite when the weather is unfriendly. Recommended!

Found Sel et Poirve on Opentable. There menu is diverse and satisfying, from a lite healthy meal to there delicious traditional dishes. The waitstaff is professional ,prompt and friendly. The owners are welcoming and strike up a great conversation. Happy ,we will be back!

Great place. Service fantastic and food tasteful. Alberta, manager/waiter is most cordial and accommodating. You will enjoy!!

The owners have no clue about hospitality. In addition to being seated 25,minutes late for a 7:15 reservation, with 2 80 year old infirm guests, they seated a 7:30 table before us even though they arrived 10 minutes after us. We waited at the bar and were not even offered a glass of water or questioned whether we would like something (nor graciously offered an apologetic drink)The owner eventually apologized, said she is always conscious of customer because she doesn't want a bad review. Well empty words and here is your bad review. With hundreds of restaurants in NYC there is no reason to ever return. Off my list forever and I only live 2 blocks away!! Horrible.

Great, reasonably priced and friendly neighborhood stand by. Large portions of we'll cooked but not particularly creative food. Would definitely go again.

Both the Escargot appetizer and the Duck a la Orange were poor. The Duck was overcooked.

Authentic French and everything that implies. First-rate service. Latest meal was from February's special 'wild game' menu (I had venison/wild boar sausage, then venison osso buco; excellent!). Highly recommended.

It was a very nice and cozy place , food was good , and the service quick, would have appreciated a different kind of music as we expected it being French to have not exclusively french music but something more varied than just south american potpurri this we didnt think gave it a plus. the rest food wise was ok . service was correct and quick.

Restaurant has been here forever , has a cosy French neighborhood atmosphere but the food was very disappointing. My friend’s mussels were full of sand & my chicken sandwich consisted of ordinary “store-bought” bread, ice berg lettuce, colorless tasteless tomato and thick sliced chicken breast. Less than ho-hum
