About Sekisui - Chattanooga
At Sekisui, sushi chefs don"t just push the envelope; they put the envelope through the paper shredder. Chefs are encouraged to show off their creativity and listen to customer's ideas, creating sushi rolls that can't be found anywhere else. Also, purists will be delighted with the exhaustive lineup of nigiri sushi - perfectly sliced fish atop a mound of rice seasoned with vinegar, sugar and a touch of sake. There's something to please everyone. The extensive menu covers lots of familiar Japanese cuisine territory with teriyaki, tempura and udon noodles but also features fusion style entrees. Lively and noisy might not be typical descriptions of most Japanese restaurants, but the words fit Sekisui. As it is always full of familiar faces, Sekisui is a popular neighborhood hang-out.

Sekisui - Chattanooga Ratings and Reviews
When I sat down at the bar, the chef asked me what my favorite fish was....then he proceeded to present me with a $40 plate of food I did not order. I tried to explain that I did not want that but he assumed by me telling him what I liked that I wanted a plate full of it. I attempted to each some because I felt somewhat responsible. HIs helper then made me the roll that I DID want. They ended up taking a portion of the cost off of my bill but the main chef proceeded to gripe to me about American's not wanting to pay a fair price for sushi, and what a wonderful chef he was and that he worked for Ronald Reagan......
The helper was great but the main chef's attitude was enough to keep me from coming back.
The food is always amazing here. No argument about that! The waitress we had this visit was either really bad at her job or new to the industry. She did not do hardly even a decent job. lol Certain things like filling up the drinks before they get below half way, a check back after food is delivered and remembering to bring small things upon request such as dips/dressing was grossly over looked and unattended to until I asked more than once. Regardless, we will definitely go back!
Bad service. I had to tell the waitress twice what my appetizer order was because she would not pay attention to me, then even though I told the waitress three different times I wanted yakisoba she forgot, when I asked where my dinner was she pointed to the appetizer order, and finally after everyone else had finished dinner then I received the yakisoba which they forgot to put the meat in and only received after I pointed out that they forgot it.
This was my wife and my first time at a Japanese sushi restaurant. We told that to our server Cassie. She was terrific! Cassie made recommendations for sampling, for specials, and for spice levels. We wanted to experience Japanese cooking and presentation. All our selections turned out beautifully and delicious.
The food here is delicious, fresh, and authentic. The service is top notch no matter how many times you need something added to your original request, and the servers are knowledgeable about the menu choices. Angela is an excellent server, enthusiastic and friendly, and loves to cater to children. Go during Happy Hour 5PM to 7PM for half price beer and sake and an early diners menu.
Very good food and service. Seated by the owner, polite and genuine. Server Angela did a great job, considering we had a few more requests than the usual guests due to one of our sons being allergic to dairy. Really recommend this place if you are looking for some good sushi.
I've visited Sekisui five times and each experience was excellent. The variety of menu choices, location, atmosphere and cuisine are all impressive. I have never been disappointed. I've only tried a few sushi rolls and teriyaki dishes so far, but plan to return as often as I can to try as many other dishes as possible. A great place to enjoy the dining scene in the Scenic City. I highly recommend it.
This was our first time at Sekisui. The menu was extensive and the food was excellent (with the exception of the desert which was tasteless and not very pleasing to the eye). However the service was not very good. The appetizers and the soup and salad courses came out fast but the entry and desert were very, very slow. The kitchen couldn't seem to be able to handle the moderate crowd.
Me and my girlfriend went here for valentines. I got the volcano roll which is supposed to fried. It was barely cooked at all let alone fried and very minimal sauce. My girlfriend got the chicken hibachi and her chicken was cold. We were told they didn't have yum yum sauce. Our waitress was rude when we asked about the menu and she brought us our food and check and that was it. The pictures on their website need to be updated. There is paint peeling off the walls and one seating arrangement inside the restaurant is actually just a couch and coffee table (very weird set up) took 20 minutes to get a beer and it was warm, and they weren't busy at all. The only good thing about the whole experience was the prices. I will never be back
My girlfriend and I ate here for Valentine's Day. Best sushi I have ever had by far, and the restaurant's atmosphere was excellent. Seriously, try the sushi, even if you aren't a big sushi fan.
The server didn't check on us often enough, and he was a little slow getting the check out, but definitely not a deal breaker. I will be coming back here again for sure.
Group of 5. Ordered several appetizers including sushi choices. All above average as were all entrees. Would recommend to anyone good wise. Service however spotty at best friendly enough but just not there. My soup came 10 minutes after the others salads. Had to wait to order a 2nd bottle of wine for table and then walk to the bar 15 minutes later to see when it was arriving. Never saw waitress after food arrived and had to get up to tell her we wanted our check as we had a concert to attend. Place was not full and simply no excuse for service level as this is a great place with s cool
Bar, outdoor seating and great food just get new servers people or train better!
Enjoyed it so much after having a bad experience at Easy Bistro the night before. This was our second night in Chattanooga.
The server was most helpful; the host/owner could not have been any nicer.
Sushi was excellent, my wife's teriyaki shrimp was superb.
Would like to have a place like this in Charlotte.
Love Sekisui. It was assume. The best sushi in Chattanooga. Cool place, fun. The fish was fresh and flavorful. We had the spice funa roll. It was assume. The seaweed salad had just the right amount of sesame oil. We also had a new type of Asian dessert. All around good. ))
