Seito Sushi - Baldwin Park Ratings and Reviews
The food tasted pre-made for sushi this time and we had a very odd large insect on our coffee cup plate. The server tried to fix this but after we reported the bug a manager never appeared or apologized. They were aware! Very disappointing! We were regulars but this really ruined it for us. You had an opportunity to provide great service but you couldn’t even show up at our table to acknowledge our experience? Shame on you management! We get bugs happen at no fault to the restaurant but this was not managed well at all. We really LOVED our first time at Umi in Winter Park tonight though.
I've had Seito Sushi on my to-try list for ages, and finally was in the neigbourhood and made a booking for a late dinner.
So starting with drinks, my glass had so much ice, when I had specifically requested light-ice. I drank it but I felt the true taste of the drink was super diluted down by the massive amount of ice. For the BBQ Calamari, I found the hoisin sauce was too sweet for my taste. I didn't like it on the calamari and if was to return, would ask for that sauce to either be served on the side, or omitted all together. My mum too found the sauce too sweet for her taste. The crushed peanuts were a nice touch, but I'm not sure what they honestly added to the dish, apart from being a nice garnishing touch.
Re: our Ramen dishes, I loved the pork belly that came with the Tonkotsu, but if I was being impartial, I have tasted much better and richer broth prior. The Lake meadow egg was a knockout and I reckon worth paying to even get an additional portion. My Dad found his Shoyu to be overall very robust in taste, with a good serve of the chicken, but he had paid for an extra serve of veggies - and it didn't really look like his veggie to noodle + broth/ chicken ratio was significantly higher.
With my mum's Bibimbap we had requested another serve of pork belly or vegetables instead of the bulgogi (don't eat beef) & also requested the julienned ginger to be served on the side. Mum got a delicious bowl of miso soup with this main but she found her veggies disappointing - mostly carrot. And the julienned ginger was just omitted all together, we didnt get it at all!!
It was an overall pleasant meal, but based on the items we ate, none of us are rushing to go back anytime soon. It might have behooved us to instead get some sushi instead, since that is what is in the title of the restaurant and the subject of a lot of other reviews. I might return, just to see if the sushi lives up to the hype, but I wouldn't get any of the menu items I chose during this visit.
Excellent Japanese whiskey selection. Our server Ms Jen was stellar and on point as always, very professional and polite. Food is always great, little disappointed with the special which is highly unusual since from the many visits this is the first time one entry (special) was not as good as expected. I wish they would shake and serve the martinis at table side and not at the bar. Sometimes there are delays from the moment is prepared to the moment is served and is not as chilled. It does have an effect on taste. We really enjoy this restaurant and the servers are excellent. Will keep coming back.
We have had dinner at this restaurant many times. Service and food were always great. This last time we were there, the food was not as good. The miso soup was cold and the tofu was not fresh. Our waiter was nice to replace it. The salt and pepper ribs that we always get was not crispy like we've always had. The sushi was good that night though. Our sever was excellent. We were just a bit disappointed with this last visit.
The attention to details sets the food apart. The care in making the broth for the ramen to the way the sushi ingredients are combined are excellent. My friend is a chef and he said how good the food was. Our server was fantastic. He paid attention but was non-intrusive. We'll be back
We dine at Seito several times a year and are never disappointed. We decided to try a few new things this time. The brisket gyoza was just amazing. The dumplings were perfectly prepared and the sauce was absolutely delightful.
No kids menu. Service was friendly but took forever. We did take a long time to order but had to keep asking for waitress to come back and answer our questions. Ramen bowls were barely warm. Sushi seemed legit but husband was sick within 30 minutes of eating. Got sick at restaurant 2x and then we Had to leave. Bbq calamari was good. We eat sushi at least 2x a week and have never been sick before. Only hubby are sashimi. Made fathers day a bad experience. 1 shashimi platter (14 pieces) , 1 roll, 2 a la carte nigiri, 2 ramen bowl, 1 appetizer and 1 ...3" piece of tempura chicken for toddler and 2 cokes = $156
