Second Street Grill Ratings and Reviews
If you've never been downtown in Vegas you are missing the best people watching in the world and the best deal ever for a great high end meal. When you're tired of getting charged $25 for a hamburger on the strip, you can feast on some of the best rack of lamb you ever had for $35 here. Share an appetizer of killer lettuce wraps with four people and there will still be left overs. Portions are huge, food is top quality, ambience is old vegas baby - you half expect Dino and Sammy to be sitting at the next table. Every trip to Vegas includes a stop here. You won't be disappointed!!!!
Our experience at Second Street Grill was very strange/disappointing. First, we walked in to hear a woman yelling and cursing at the hostess and bartender, only to later realize that she worked there and appeared to possibly be the manager. Then, we were seated in the very back of the restaurant near the swinging door entrance to the kitchen, even though we had a reservation and maybe 3 other tables in the whole place were occupied. The table we were sat next to was one of them, a group of 4 men who were super loud and vulgar the entire time. When we were approached by our server, the first thing she said to us was "are you ready to order"? Ummm, no, we sat down like 3 minutes ago. We ordered appetizers and wine, and when the server came with the bottle, she asked if we wanted her to pour it. Uhhhh yeah, that would probably be the best thing to do. The seafood dim sum and mozzarella and tomato appetizers were very good, as was the steak entree. My Thai cioppino, however, was fifty fifty. The broth was delicious, however the shrimp and scallops were cooked to the consistency of rubber, and some of the mussels were not properly cleaned, so I got a couple mouthfuls of sand/grit. The busser was perhaps the highlight of the experience as he was very attentive- our glasses were constantly full and he removed finished plates very quickly. For what we got as far as food and experience, there was some sticker shock when it came to the bill. All in all, we can say we tried it, but we can also say we won't be coming back or recommending the restaurant to others.
This is my second visit to the restaurant - my first was in April 2001 (I'm in the UK, I don't get to Vegas too often). I had a T-steak then, and repeated the order this time, and pleased to say that the best 2 steaks I've had have been in this restaurant - 16.5 years apart!
Didn’t expect service to be so slow. Waited over half hour for entree to arrive, water glasses were not filled when empty, reminded waiter about bread several times, wine delivered after 15 minutes of order. Commented to hostess about the lengthy time of service.. service improved only after complaining.. other than that, food was tasty
This restaurant has a quiet, softly lite, dark wood décor. All the staff was very efficient and personable. Makes for a great atmosphere for a nice dinner. Most of all, the food was wonderful! Our steaks were cooked perfectly to order and my lobster tail was also cooked perfectly. Not overcooked, as I have had often in the past, to the point of a rubber-like texture. The cocktails were perfect and the house Cab was delicious. We are very happy to have found a great restaurant of this caliber for what we feel to be reasonable prices. Definitely recommend!
Went there for wife's birthday at the recommendation of friends. She had the stuffed prawns and never seen any shrimp that big. I had the ribeye. Was not as tender as I had hoped and a little more fatty than usual. Decent wine list. Service was top notch. Ambience very nice. Quiet enough to carry on a conversation even with full tables around. Great cheesecake for dessert.
Would recommend definitely.
Waiter was somewhat inattentive. My wife asked if the "red snapper" was tai and was told no, so she ordered the butterfish. Somehow they brought her a three pound deep fried red fish. Much too much for a lady. As a diabetic she does not eat fried food either. The waiter later apologized saying he did not realize she wanted the fish steamed. She accepted the fried dish anyway reasoning they would not be able to serve it once it cooled down and did not want to let such a magnificent creature go to waste. Food was tasty otherwise. We had planned for months to go to this restaurant and were disappointed with the lack of communication.
Second Street is consistently excellent in cuisine and atmosphere. Each meal is a creative combination of the highest quality ingredients - and everything is included in the entrée price - salad, protein, starch and vegetables.
I have never had a bad meal here. The decaf espresso is the best I have had.
The service is impeccable. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and quiet.
I can think of absolutely nothing negative to say about this place.
We love going to Second Street Grill. This has been our 2nd visit. Both times we had Tony as a waiter. He is fantastic! Tony has been there 17 years and he makes great recommendations. This time, the wait staff catered to my disabled mom, assisting her with her electric chair and at the table. Wonderful food, excellent drinks and well priced. We will be back very soon.
The highlight for our party of five was that there was a nice variety of dishes to chose from and the taste and preparation was very good. The only problem we had was that the service was slow and we believe it was due to a lack of adequate staff for the dining room.
I was surprised by the quality and quantity of the dishes we tried: two appetizers and a shared entree (lamp chops of 4 chops!). Unfortunately, the food coupon we received from our VacHi package gave us only $3 off the total bill, but it was still worth the dining experience. Did not care too much for the Pinot Gregio and the server poured the full glass instead of the customary small pour for the taste. Next time we'll order just a glass instead of the full bottle.
I was so looking forward to my dinner at the Grill, and I must say this is the first time i sent my dinner back to the kitchen in the 25 years that we have been coming to the Fremont. I ordered your filet mignon, there was people that arrived after our party that was serviced before us, when my filet i started to eat my bake potato, for I ordered a side of ketchup which I never got, I was hungry so i cut a piece of my filet and at first i thought it was me that it did not taste very good, so i took and bit and it was just as bad as the first bite. I still was thinking it was my taste buds so I gave a piece to one that was in my party and she also said there is definitely wrong with that filet. I called the waitress over and she was very nice in taking the plate back and asked if i would like another filet but those two bites really ruined my dinner that I was so looking forward too. I ordered your clam patties which were good. That filet must have been pushed back in your frig for a long time before I got it, maybe you should mark dates on the containers in which they are stored until used so this will never happen again.
Whenever we are in Vegas we know that 1 night we are going to treat ourselves by going here. We always feel special by the staff ... the service is 5 star & the food has always been to our expectations. Don't let the name fool you.... this is Not your "hamburger grill" this is a white linen restaurant... worth the $$$.
Really enjoyed our dinner at the Second Street Grille. It was a little difficult to find in the back of the Fremont Hotel & Casino, but worth it. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. My wife and I shared an order of king crab legs and it was definitely enough for both of us. Also, had a nice bottle of wine that was 1/2 the price of the same bottle at a steakhouse we ate at later that week. Would definitely go back - great food, great value, nice atomsphere.
I was pleasantly surprised i was able to get a table for two on short notice through Open Table. I have eaten here many times and they never disappoint. We had some of the specials, which are always great values. The Martinis were made properly, food was prepared and cooked properly for a fine dining restaurant(which means the medium rare steak had a warm red center, not overdone) and the steaks were tender and tasty. The deserts were awesome, and the service was outstanding. The price we paid was not a lot more than the seafood buffet next door from a few nights earlier, but Second St. has great food that is prepared properly! Our server tony was excellent. I am glad they have kept this restaurant pretty much the same way as they have for years. Good job, and i'll be back.
Such an excellent dining experience! The staff is very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about their menu. The food is excellent! Better than anything else I have ever had in Las Vegas. The steak was cooked to perfection and fork tender. Such a fantastic hidden gem!
We arrived on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly. We both had the special that evening which was a T-Bone steak with baked potato and house salad. The steak was very tender and cooked perfectly. The portion size was large. But once our waitress placed our orders she was no where to be found. Only returned after we sat for a while following our meal to bring the check. We noticed other wait staff being very attentive to their tables so I don't think that our waitress was a good representation of the restaurant's service. Would go again for the food.
