Family in town and took them to Second City. Two of the diners had the steak salad as their entree. One had the fish special and the last the blackened Tilapia. The salads were favorites and more than enough for a meal. The fish special (halibut) was prepared nicely and adequate for a big eater. The blackened Tilapia (two filets) was delicious, a little spicy but tasty.
It wasn’t busy the night we dined, which didn’t explain why service was off from prior visits.
We discovered Scott and Liz's 2nd City Bistro soon after they opened. Love the food and the ambiance. Service is above average. Food/Wine Pairing Nights are well worth enjoying. Went when Chateau St. Jean was featured. The winemaker was there and she signed our bottle.
Try it for a special evening.
While we were told coming in that the food may take up to 45 minutes due to a couple of large groups, we were not told that the service would be practically non-existent and would have to wait 15 minutes just to get a glass of water. The food was, as always, delicious but the service was so horrendous that we will not be going back. A shame because, even though the service is never great, it was so bad that it just isn't worth it anymore. There are enough great restaurants in El Segundo that we don't have to pay to be aggravated.

The restaurant was practically empty while we were there and it still took a really long time to get our food. And, when we did, one member of our party asked for dressing on the side and it came on the salad. Then the waiter came over and said that she didn't ask for it on the side...which the other two of us clearly heard her say. If you make a mistake, own up...don't place blame on the customer.
They had a large party in the main restaurant and a private party upstairs. These two groups apparently crippled the kitchen. We've eaten there numerous times and never had service like this before. The worse!!! Everything was slow: drinks, appetizers, entrees. It took us 3 hours to get our dinner. We were on the verge of leaving when the entrees finally appeared at 10 PM. Never bothered with coffee or dessert. At that point, we just wanted to get out of the restaurant!

DineLA menu had great options! The only pitfall was the soup did not come out hot. And the pot of hot water for tea was not hot either. Tiramisu came out frozen and service was slow. Otherwise food is yummy. There is potential and room for improvement.

It wound up being a great place for New Year's Eve dinner. Even though they only had a prix fixe dinner menu, it was a very nice evening. Pricing was a little high for what we got if it was an average day but expected for a holiday dinner.
But, one of the nice things was that it included both soup and salad. Both servings were small but with the entree and dessert, enough to fill us both up.
There were two price options depending on which entree you selected, $55 or $65, and you didn't have to order the same price option for all at the table. They had three soup choices, two salad choices and two dessert choices - these were available for all entrees. We both ordered the lobster bisque which had a good flavor but only had minute pieces of lobster and was more the consistency of a soup rather than a bisque. We each ordered a different salad and both the Caesar and spinach salad were good. They also brought bread (if you asked) which had kind of a sweet taste to it. I would have preferred "normal" bread but it was included so no reason to complain.
The entrees were plentiful and cooked to order. Both the lamb and prime rib were tasty but if given the option of these two again, I'd get the lamb.
Desserts were also good with the tiramisu being a larger potion than the cheesecake. Ordering either one should be pleasing depending on which one you prefer.
We had a nice evening and would return. Hope you get a chance to try their lamb. Enjoy!

Service and food are excellent. They served a delicious mussels appetizer and tasty rib eye. Interesting wine list.
We chose Second City Bistro to meet out-of-town visitors for an early dinner AND watch the beginning of the 2nd game of the World Series. We sat outside on the patio, where it was cool, quiet (for conversation) and where we had the benefit of two large flat screen TVs on which to keep track of the game. Happy hour was welcome (though not extensive), the food was excellent, and the service was awesome. In short, the Bistro was a home run. It was the perfect place to meet -- near LAX for our traveling friends, conducive to conversation, with great ambiance, service, food, TVs for keeping track of the Game 2.
Great Dinner, no Specials that night
This is a neighborhood restaurant that has some nice salads. Its filet mignon salad is the best thing on the menu and the price is right. The entrees are somewhat overpriced. Like the atmosphere.
I have been at this restaurant many times, this was a very off night. We had to send 2 dishes back for undercooked polenta with a rather awful chili powder taste. The kitchen responded very slowly when we just asked to substitute risotto,an option offered by the waitress. We had a wonderful waitress. The rest of the food was very good.

We have enjoyed eating at Second City Bistro in El Segundo in the past and have always enjoyed it. We went for the recent Dine LA this time and found the food selections ample and delicious. We were especially happy to have choices of both salad and appetizer along with main course in lieu of dessert!
This place was SUCH A FIND! I found it via the Dine LA website and had always heard good things, so I used Dine LA as an excuse to finally try it. Their menu seems great, but even the Dine LA menu had many options I was excited to try....lobster bisque, crab cakes, spinach salad, halibut, ribeye, short ribs. The food was excellent. The service was even better. The owner even stopped by to check on us a couple times. We are excited to go back and try other things! Parking was easy too, which is hard to find in LA.

From the DineLA menu I ordered the caesar salad, linguini with shrimp and had the cheesecake. The caesar salad was a very finely chopped caesar, I have actually never seen a caesar chopped like a chopped salad, actually even worse. I say worse because the pieces were so tiny and it was on a small plate not a bowl, it made it very hard to eat. I kept trying to stab pieces with the fork but the dressing had made the lettuce limp and the only pieces i could pick up were the end parts of the romaine that still had the whites attached. I literally ended up having to eat the salad by sliding my fork sideways to scoop lettuce on to it. It wasnt an enjoyable experience. Also small detail no fresh pepper for the caesar. I didnt even have anything on my table and swiped the salt and petter shaker from the next table.
The linguini was just ok. My shrimp were undercooked. Pink on outside but down the middle clear. I cant place my finger on what exactly I didnt like. I will say salt and pepper made it taste way better. And the only thing that made the linguini actually taste like "oh this is good pasta" was when I got feta cheese on the fork with everything else. I ended up making sure to get a piece in every bite. It was a large portion so thats a plus.
The cheesecake has to be frozen and I wonder be convinced other wise. My piece of cheesecake was not creamy but hard and very very cold in the middle. I know this is from the freezer bc Ive frozen cheesecake before. It was almost like eating very hard ice cream thats been frozen for a while and hasnt melted to room temperature.
Service as I said was just ok, the hostess was very nice. My server only checked on me on once while i was eating the linguini and I had to ask for a water refill.
Food was mediocre at best and a fly continued to buzz around us even though we ate inside.
Loved this place and cannot believe I have missed it before. Delicious lunch sized portions and quality cocktails.
We were a party of 17, celebrating a birthday. The food was outstanding, but clearly they were understaffed. Our food arrived two hours after we ordered. The service was fine considering the circumstance. At one point during the night, the waitress dropped a plate and spilled ketchup all over my friend's jacket. She was very apologetic and it was an accident. After realizing the jacket was ruined we asked to speak with a manager. We were told there wasn't one. We asked for the owner and the waitress gladly called him. The owner walked in and never introduced himself, just stood there waiting for us to approach him. My friend went over and introduced himself and explained what happened. The owner was extremely rude and asked what he was supposed to do about it. He actually told us if we didn't like his restaurant then we shouldn't come back. Not once did he try to make it right. I have never experienced such horrible customer service, especially from an owner. I will never return.

We had the fish & chips, filet and a Caesar salad to start.
The Caesar was okay, but old lettuce. My fish was straight from the freezer or had been sitting out. No flake to it at all. My wife had the filet and it was tough and over cooked even though she asked for medium. I expect a lot more for $40 a person. I won't go back (this was my second visit and wanted to give it another chance).

I used to love Second City, it rivaled Chef Hannes (which now is superior in everything). Now it is just too casual too lazy and nothing special. The food taste like diner food.

This is a regular go-to work spot for us when there is a special occasion. The food is good, drinks are good, and atmosphere is also good. During our last visit, the service was excellent and we felt very special.
Every meal was cooked to perfection and came out on time. I thoroughly thought the service superb from the moment we walked in to when we left. Thank you Second City for a great night.
