SeaSalt Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed our dinner very much. I had the baby back ribs app, falling off the bone in a delicious bbq mustard sauce; the scallops in an almost too rich cream sauce with pureed celery root on the side which nicely offset the richness of the scallops; and the choc molten cake, pretty much just as it should be with raspberry sorbet on the side, a nice touch. Wife had the octopus app which had so-so flavor and unusually tough(and we eat a lot of octopus in restaurants including Panico, La Fontana and Kosta's Grill) as well as make it ourselves so we have a very good basis for comparison); the scallops; and the banana spring rolls (basically fried lightly battered banana) with a perfect creme anglaise and honey vanilla sorbet on the side which was very good. A few minor issues: this was our third time there and they alway make you wait even though there were plenty of available tables for two; they don't offer freshly ground pepper unless you ask, and then it takes them a while to locate a pepper mill; we would have preferred a choice of the two sorbets with the two desserts, as I would have preferred the vanilla with the choc cake and wife would have preferred the raspberry with the banana (we swapped). One larger issue: the pre-published menu for this prix fixe dinner included blackened cobia, a delicious and unusual fish in this region, with applewood smoked bacon and creamy corn, which was unavailable at 7 pm on Saturday night, which was a big attraction, and they substituted cod, a meh fish, instead of local flounder or sea or striped bass (I had local terrific black sea bass which I had made at home earlier in the week) which would have been comparable and acceptable, so that was very disappointing.
Nice place it's smart casual dress we ordered a few martinis and i had the grilled octopus, the stewed char . Octopus was chewy and not very seasoned pass on that next time . Everything else was excellent. My fish was great my wife's meal was very good she had the shallops and beat salad. Nice place over all
Had a nice breakfast out on the veranda. My husband had the Belgian waffle which was served as 4 thick triangles topped with an apple slaw. He had to ask for the syrup as they didn't bring it out with his waffle. I had the baked eggs with spinach and goat cheese. It was served in a small cast iron frying pan and included 2 fried eggs topped with spinach and a few small dollops of creamy goat cheese, along with 6 halves of rye toast. It included a small side of home fries. The eggs were a bit overcooked but tasty nevertheless. The coffee was weak but I prefer espresso myself. Also the "fresh squeezed" oj is just from a carton oj...don't expect a juicer version of fresh squeezed. The atmosphere was pleasant especially on a beautiful sunny day like we had. It wasn't the best breakfast I ever tasted but it was okay.
It may have been because it was end of season but I really found nothing special about this restaurant. The food was okay and the seafood was fresh but the meals were uninspired. We loved our waitress who was personable and enjoyable. If you are going to compete in a food town like Cape May, you need to bring your A game.
We were celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday traveling from Alexandria, VA. Three of us shared the fried calamari appetizer. The scallops were fresh and cooked properly. One guest ordered the ribs which he said were too sweet and too salty so because of that I am rating the food four stars. We had their pineapple drink with cruzan rum which was excellent, not too sweet. It was a warm lovely evening so we ate on the patio. It was very nice. Reasonable prices. Very good service.
Sat us past our reservation time. Waited 1.5 hours for our food, after they told us they were out of multiple items. Calimari was rubber, cobia was bland as can be. They must have mistaken blackened to mean slightly over cooked/burned as opposed to the variety of spices. Corn puree was lacking in flavor besides being sweet. Ice cream at the end was freezer burnt, was half crystalized and broke after sitting for a minute.
Food was good but two of the appetizers, which we saw on the menu prior to visiting, were not available on the evening we dined there. My wife specifically wanted both those appetizers (for her dinner) so this was extremely disappointing. We probably would not have dined there had we known that beforehand.
Service was very good. All employees were attentive and pleasant.
The service was poor. It took several hours for us to get through a meal. We went in with a table of 4 and then our friends joined us at the table next to us - also a table of 4. Our friends were served first and we waited, and waited and waited. Our friends paid and left before we got our meal. Then it took a half an hour to get the check. They just forgot about us. It was hard to really comment on the food when we were so aggravated.
I've been to Sea Salt a few times always having a good meal, however this time things were disappointing. My guest and I wanted to get the five coarse tasting menu, however we were told that we couldn't because the didn't have one if the 15 things on the five course tasting menu. I know that they price out tasting menu however I just thought they were a bit inflexible. Ordered an entree that I have eaten there three times before. It was so salty. I couldn't finish it. We were asked about our meal and we told the manager and server of out disappointment about not being able to get the tasting menu....oh sorry, that's what we got. The server did offer to get me another entree, however I said no. I guess I would try going there again however wasn't thrilled this time around
We had a great dinner on our first visit to Sea Salt. It was a beautiful evening in September, and we ate outside. There was live music which was very nice. The menu was very interesting, making choices hard (that's a good thing). We had a wonderful meal which included ginger creme brulee for dessert. It too, was delicious. Service was very good as well.
Look forward to returning.
We may have caught this restaurant on a bad night. From the reviews, we were expecting a really fresh atmosphere and take on the typical seafood experience. And while the restaurant is beautiful, the food was quite average. Steak was served in strips, grilled octopus was served cold and small portion, cobia was dry, and my tuna just didn't impress. The best thing I tasted was the jersey corn and crabmeat soup, though probably not worth $11 (a cup/bowl option would be great).
Servers were all pleasant and attentive. Thought it was weird that we were told we needed to put in our entire food order at the same time, but it worked out as the apps/ entrees were timed appropriately.
Would like to give the restaurant another try, but with so many favorites down here, not sure if we will.
We had an absolutely lovely evening at SeaSalt and the service was outstanding. The staff were kind, attentive and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu; our server was able to nimbly retrieve an allergy menu for me so that I could pick dishes suitable to my needs.
The food was enjoyable and of decent quality , but if you want the quality for your money I would go with the seafood and not the steak (my husband had the tuna and I had the steak. My mis-steak).
Fresh approach in the midst of mostly traditional Cap May dining scene. Friendly yet somewhat slow service. Ordered appetizers from raw bar selections: clams were not fresh but oysters were quite good. The fish was underwhelming. Live jazz on Thursday night was a very nice touch. Likewise an ocean breeze at the beach overlooking patio.
We were two couples getting together on a very rainy night.... we have heard a lot about this restaurant so we thought to give it a try. Positives... our apps and desserts were awesome... however 3 out of 4 dinners were just ok! Now that being said we are all foodies, so we may be a little more critical than most! The duck app and banana spring rolls are a must for the table!! Out server wasn't the best , but its end of season and I know that probably he was in the weeds due to most of the help leaving! Nice bar and manager was very nice and check in on us a couple times! There was a little 3 piece jazz band playing which I have to be honest was a little dreary! Prob next time just go to bar and have apps and drinks!
I definitely was not disappointed. It was our 3rd year anniversary and the food was incredible. Our waitress was so sweet and made excellent recommendations. She even insisted on giving us dessert on the house for our anniversary, which we really appreciated.
The only downside was that our grilled octopus app had one small octopus tentacle. Last time I came, we were given 3 pieces of octopus. We were kinda expecting more for a $14 appetizer. Nonetheless, it was still amazing and I will definitely be back.
**Try the porkchop!!
