Food and service were absolutely incredible, we will absolutely be back. The only issue experienced was the pointless valet parking and waiting nearly 10 minutes in 9 degree weather for my truck (nevermind someone else waiting even longer since his keys were misplaced).
Appetizer - Crab Cake was served cold. Menu claimed lump crab pieces. Consistency was mushy.
Short Ribs were extremely fatty and not worth the price. Wine (Smith and Hook) Cabernet was overpriced. I usually do not complain on a first visit, but this was my worst experience for what passes to be a better grade dining establishment.....
If you are looking for a good steak or a nice fish entree, this place is worth a try. The food was excellent. However, the prices would suggest a little better service and professionalism from the wait staff and the front desk staff. When the host failed to see our name on the reservation list, we found it for him. We were seated without being offered any kind of a coat check and one was not visible. We put our jackets on an extra chair at our table which was fine until they came and took the chair to set another table. It was then that the waiter mentioned that there was a coat check. It was unbelievably warm in the dining room and we were moments away from asking for another table when the air finally began to cool down. We never saw a wine list and one was not offered. We ordered our meal and realized after the order had been placed that we did not order sides. We had to flag down our waiter to ask for them. It seems as though they should have been offered. Our waiter did a decent job all in all, but nothing was exceptional about the service. In my experience, the best steakhouses are known for the professionalism of the waitstaff. SHG seems to need to invest a little more time in training.
All that being said, the meal we ate was outstanding. The Brussels sprouts and bacon were a highlight of our meal as was the burrata appetizer. I ordered Seabass which was cooked perfectly and my husband enjoyed a ribeye steak which was excellent.
This was my third visit to this restaurant. We chose it for our wedding anniversary and had a not so special dinner. The service was horrible.
We made a reservation and were seated very promptly. The rest of the night was down hill from then. Wait service was unacceptable. First he brought us the wrong drinks after about 10-15 mins. Way too long to have someone wait to start their meal.
We ordered apps and they came out reasonable quick and accurate. The waiter never checked back with us to see if we needed anything (Black pepper for our salads).
Once we ordered our main course we did not see our waiter until he presented the check. The busboy asked if everything was okay I asked him to check on our sides. Never saw him or the sides again.
Just too many places in North Jersey to choose for me to ever go back there.
The place is very nice, the dining room is pretty and the bar area is a cool place to hang out and have drinks. Our waiter was very friendly. The food was pretty average. Although we all enjoyed it, for the price you expect above average food. Our steaks were overdone and with a name like Sear that should not happen. Ever. I have been there before and the food has been excellent, so perhaps this was an "off night". Hope so....
I was very pleasantly surprised by my experience. High ceilings with large wood beams add ambiance. Open kitchen area is nice because you can see how clean it is. I had the flatbread, Cesar salad, and short ribs. All three were very good. Especially for NJ standards.
Steak orders (3) were all wrong, and one was severely overcooked. We kept it to expedite the dining experience, but for a steakhouse it was appalling. The Chilean sea bass was also a little dry.
Artichoke special was delicious. As were the diver scallops and spinach risotto. Everything else was mediocre, and underwhelming for the price paid.
Very few people were dining when we arrived for our 7:30 reservation on a Saturday evening in August. Except for a private party, the restaurant remained almost empty. My husband's appetizer arrived, but my salad did not until I asked for it. The busboy wanted to remove my husband's appetizer although clearly he wasn't finished as I sat in front of an empty place. When our entrees, steaks, were served one hour after we sat down, the plates were covered with grease. The steaks were well cooked. The waitress comped dessert, nice of her, but the service was slow and the busboy needed training. We have no interest in returning.
This was our third time at this restaurant. The beef is always very, very good.
We especially enjoy the starter of mozzarella cheese saute'd in garlic and caper sauce - its amazing! Tried the oysters for the first time as they had our favorite variety. They too, were just perfect. Service here is always excellent, they clearly have a established training program, something not too common in this area....
We decided to sit up above the bar area and there was one noisy table in the corner but that is of no reflection on Sear, people need to not take calls on their speaker phone in a freaking restaurant...
The main dining room is usually the better choice and conversation is easy and without distraction.
Will certainly return when its time again to order up a porterhouse for two!
Unfortunately it was not as good as we hoped. We took friends there and other than the calamari appetizer and bread being good, the rest of the meal and experience was sad. We arrived to very few tables being full, had a reservation and still appetizers for the table next to us -that were seated after us - arrived first. We ordered 2 appetizers, calamari and shrimp. The shrimp were tiny frozen like pieces in barely tasty sauce. We waited again a long time for our meals to arrive. My meal was incorrectly put in by the waiter. Ok that happens. However now my friends were almost finished by the time my correct meal came out. Pasta was undercooked and doughy, clumped together. The vodka sauce was more like thick gravy, very few and small lobster pieces and the asparagus were small cut stalk pieces. Disgraceful. The kitchen clearly has an issue. We watched several times orders taken to wrong tables. My friends had not great short ribs, over cooked swordfish and shrimp fra diavolo was uneventful.
The manager offered to take off my pasta dish and give us dessert. I don't see this as a give - but the least they can do. Still the bill came and so overpriced for bad/mediocre meal. So sad as there are good restaurants in the area. Don't believe worth trying again.
This was our first time dining at Sear House Grill and we will definitely be back. Service was excellent from the minute we walked in the door. The food was prepared and served perfectly. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant for us as it is a bit pricey but worth it!!!
