Sea Glass at Inn by the Sea Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent; the service was atrocious. Our server appeared very nervous and seemed befuddled by the basics: she didn't know if the bartender could make a very simple champagne cocktail, failed to bring bread despite promising to do so, had someone else deliver our meals and only reappeared when we were nearly done with our entrees to see if we were pleased with the food. As for the food, the lobster taco appetizer was delicious, if a bit under-seasoned. The seared scallops with shrimp couscous, and the filet mignon with smoked mushrooms and cauliflower, were extremely well prepared. Unfortunately, the poor quality service is the taste that lingered longest after our meal.
We found the food to be very good to excellent in presentation & taste. The arugula, roasted squash salad had a pleasant flavorful dressing but the squash was under cooked & not actually roasted. Everything else about the dinner food was excellent. We also had breakfast which was fantastic.
On another note, the evening service left a lot to be desired. The gentleman had the personality that was void of any inflection and the woman server gave the impression that she was there under duress. When questioned to describe two items on the menu (the Vegan choice & the Dogfish) a description had to be coaxed out of her. By no means did she try to describe in detail the dishes & the features of each. Disappointing. Her smile was completely fake. The am server was wonderful and pleasant.
We were married at Inn, so went back to Sea Glass for an anniversary dinner. Beautiful scenery, cozy, and quiet. The food and service was excellent, very seasonal. Impressive wine list and original cocktails. One thing to note, the entree portions are slightly on the smaller side.
Excellent quality. Relatively small menu choice but that makes for far superior quality. My husband and I shared the fish tacos apppetizer and the lobster entree. Fish tacos were delicious and lobster was fresh. We sat outside overlooking the bay in glorious sunshine. There was family nearby roasting marshmallows round the fire pit. After a walk on the beach our evening was complete. Worth every penny
The service was horrible. It appeared that the waitress was new and had absolutely no experience in the job. She totally ignored us and there were only two tables occupied at the time (Sunday at noon). We had to ask two buss boys, on three occasions, to get our waitress for us.
Prices on the menu were different for the exact same menu item. We got 4 menus and two of them listed the lobster roll at $14, while the other two listed it at $28 -makes one wonder if they are being treated honestly and fairly..
All in all, this restaurant charges much to much for the poor service.
It appeared that the manager knew about the issues we were having with the false prices on the menu, but never approached us to apologize (and by the way, he should have told us that he would charge the lower price for the lobster roll if we wanted to order it.) That did not happen, and in a restaurant of this level, that should have been a given.
Our experience simply did not live up to what would normally be expected of a restaurant of this price level and rating.
Nice to dine outside on the patio with views of the water. Very nice friendly service. Unfortunately the food was only so so in my opinion. The chowder was too creamy for my taste and the hake dish lacked flavor. Not horrible but could be better. We'll go back and try the Sunday brunch one day.
Disappointing experience after reading reviews. Nice setting and friendly hostess. Limited menu. Had requested outdoor seating in OT notes, but no mention on res when we arrived and it was full. Many young children and fair bit of noise - not ideal for a quiet dinner for two. Service was slow and spotty - no spoon with soup and had to flag another server after searching for ours, gf bread asked for when ordering arrived at end of dinner, server seemed MIA. Beet gazpacho was terrible - sour cream tasted like soap. Tuna app was good, but very small portion. Both had poached buttered lobster. Tasted good, but neither lobster tail had been de-veined and claws tasted like they had been frozen. For $48 expected more. Overall, if we were hotel guests with small children, would have seemed okay, but we so disappointed we skipped dessert and headed to Portland to get some.
The weather was spectacular. The Inn's setting and view are gorgeous. Our brunch at the Sea Glass restaurant was three orders of very tasty eggs benedict and an average lobster roll. I would definitely eat at the Sea Glass again, but I just can't give it a 5 Star review this time.
Beautiful setting but food is hit or miss and expensive. We ate her several times during our stay. Some dishes were interesting and well-prepared. But my medium rare steak was well-done and a lobster roll had twice as much bread and was dry. Breakfast tended to be better than other meals.
