We have been going to Scratch before attending events at the Bing and have never been disappointed! Great food, they take your departure time into account when serving. I love the seafood hot pot.
We have been to Scratch in Spokane approximately 10 time and the CdA Scratch before it closed
about 30 times. We were extremely disappointed at the quality of the food during our visit with friends prior to a concert at the Fox on March 15th. My wife's dinner of chicken was over cooked and dry and the salads poorly prepared. My dinner of filet was just ok and barely warm.
As the CdA restaurant is closed, we will not be returning to Scratch although we are long time season symphony ticket holders and your restaurant is convenient. The acoustics and noise level make it difficult to carry on a conversation. The meals and wine are over priced given the mediocre quality. The server was the only high light as she was responsive and attentive. We will not be returning to Scratch.
The food and service was great as always. The salmon was wonderful. Drinks were amazing awesome
We went for restaurant week and had made reservations for 2. We were seated in the bar area, even though a 4 top was ready & 1 opening in the dining room area. Had I realized that we would be dining with loud bar patrons having drinks & ball games on 3 TV screens, we would have went elsewhere. The service was slower than usual.
I’m guess that was because they were making drinks and then remembered our food when they were caught up with drinks. If I wanted a pub experience I would have gone someplace & spent $60 on dinner not $130!
Although there were no problems, I didn't feel this was the best dining experience. The food was good. The wine selection was good. The server was good. Nothing was great. I do feel the dining room lacked ambiance. The tables were small and extremely close together. There were only four of us, yet, I felt very cramped. I hope this lackluster experience was due to it being the end of Restaurant Week and a future visit will be a completely different experience.
Went during Inlander Restaurant Week. The Osso bucco was fantastic. My friend had the crab soup and except for not getting additional crackers he said it was good had a lot in it. When the waiter brought my drink he placed in on the corner of the table right next to my elbow, I’m lucky I didn’t knock it off, there was plenty of room in front of my plate. Over all good.
This was my second time trying Scratch out, and it will probably be the last. The restaurant was understaffed and the wait staff was overwhelmed. It took a while to receive our food. I had the stuffed acorn squash and was very disappointed with the quality. It was lukewarm, under seasoned and bland. The rice was crunchy. My husband got the duck breast which was actually cooked perfectly, but the risotto was very gummy and bland. It kind of ruined the whole dish. I think if the chef just used more butter/oil and salt everything would have been much more palatable. A restaurant across from the Fox Theater should be better than this. They need a new chef.
disappointing during our meal in restaurant week. Food lukewarm, had hard edges from sitting under a heat lamp.
It was restaurant week and we has the 3 course fixed price, and brought our own wine, which they decanted for us. The House salad and the Caesar were both crisp and fresh with nice dressing. Osso Buco was tender and very tasty and moist. Huckelberry ice cream delicious and bannanas foster excellent.
Intimate in size. Very friendly. Nice to meet the owner.
Excellent service and a wonderful meal. Hadn’t seen my friend in three years and we were able tone joy our visit without feeling rushed. The food was excellent.
On Scratch’s menu, they have a soup specifically labeled as vegan and I specified when making the reservation that one of the members of the party is a vegan. However, when it came time to order, the server reported that the soup was the only vegan option and shrugged his shoulders when asked if they had any other options. It was an expensive meal that could not be fully enjoyed by all of the members of the party being left to eat soup and the burnt edge of an acorn squash (due to the dairy pre-mixed in the rice filling). If they are unwilling to cater to people with special diets, perhaps they should not have items labeled as such on the menu.
Our first time at Scratch and it was definitely a positive experience the quality and the food preparation were spot on. The flavors were exceptional and I look forward to my next trip to Spokane to experience another great meal.
Not worth it. Save your money. Food was over priced for the quality.
The food was expensive and did NOT live up to the expectations at all! The red lighting gave me a headache. Overall was not worth the trip.
We enjoy this restaurant for before or after movies or concerts downtown. The food is always very tasty and filling. The waiters and waitresses are super nice and helpful. We will definitely return.
Ideally located directly across street from the Fox Theater. BUT the food was fair at best and it was pricey. The staff were courteous and friendly. Would not recommend it to others or return despite the good location.
Yikes. Moved people already seated with drinks to make room for a larger group. Is this not what reservations are for ... to coordinate seating? Also, We were two people set at a four person table with several 2 people tables still open. Waitress asked for one of our chairs for incoming group then shortly after grabbed the other chair for another group. So 0 on the romantic factor with all the table movements and chair interruptions. Decent GF menu with exception of appetizers. The pork choice was very good but my chicken was dry. The Scratch salad was bland we both thought. They do not allow happy hour drinks at dinner table but said we could go sit in the bar. Nice wine list bottles starting at$28. The other plus was being right across the street from The Fox for the symphony. Overall it was just a 3 and pricey for a just okay experience and was very noisy. Not sure we will return. Still shocked that a restaurant of a supposedly higher quality moved people that had been seated for a bit to make room for another group. It seemed that was not well coordinated.
Scratch is our go to restaurant for special occasions. The food and service is great!
We were very impressed with Scratch. We celebrated my Birthday dinner and were very pleased with the food, atmosphere, and service. We shared the Ribeye and it was simply delicious.
Menu is interesting but pork dish was waaay over done, and dry.
Friends got really sick on the seafood
Could buy most of the wines at the grocery store.
We dined at Scratch prior to an event at the Bing. The whole experience was great!. The waiter was very helpful with his inputs about what to order. We had the hanger steak, the steelhead and duck and all were excellent. The wine suggestion was also yummy and went well with my meal. They were accommodating of our time frame to get to our event and we will definitely go back. My only complaint is that the restaurant was pretty drafty and too cool for me, but that's my issue :-)
The two pasta dishes were very creamy. The pork was overdone and dry.
The waitress was great. Salads were good.
I won't judge Scratch, where we've often stopped in for dinner, on the basis of this unsatisfying experience. We made a reservation and came in to support the restaurant's anniversary. We were disappointed in the ho-hum food preparation. I asked for my entree medium-well, which it was not, but some of the vegetables were way overcooked. My husband also was underwhelmed by the dish he ordered.
We'll probably come back again, but it won't be for a while. I don't mind paying a pretty hefty price for a memorable meal, but I don't want to for food I could have prepared better at home.
The food & service were great though the high top table was not. Next time, I'll be sure to ask for a regular table. It's such a convenient place to go before the symphony!!
Scratch did not have our reservation and we had to wait about 25 minutes. Food was ok and a little pricey
Exquisite cocktail menu
The food at Scratch is excellent, and the location is perfect, especially if you're going to a downtown event before or after. The wait staff is pretty great, but sometimes sketchy depending on who you get. Two of the gals that helped us were great, and one . . . yep, other things on her mind apparently. All in all a great experience when creating a special birthday surprise.
We were seated on the Rain side of the establishment, which isn't a big deal aside from it being so dark that we needed to use the candles on the table to read the menus. The pork loin was alright, but with the mashed potatoes being as bland as they were for being "blue cheese", they weren't worth the price tag. Similar reviews were given for the ribeye and flat iron steaks. My girlfriend spoke highly of her halibut and rice, though. I think we'll only come back for drinks and find food elsewhere.
The entire menu looked delicious and the food we ordered was amazing! The portion sizes were perfect so we definitely didn't leave hungry:) We'll be going back for sure!
Didn’t make it past the front desk - attitude was so bad from hostess, we had to leave.
Menu is great, but for some reason the individual dishes did not come together well. Best item on the table was the salmon, it was cooked perfectly. We had been out all day and we were in street clothes when we arrived, we felt under-dressed and a little uncomfortable. The waiter was too casual, not really friendly; felt like he drew a short straw to serve that night. Probably would not go back.
Do not order the seafood dishes. The clam appetizer and Seafood Hot Pot were overcooked and rubbery. The lamb and duck were decent as well as the bread sticks. The server was barely visible and luckily we did not bring a guest with us. Definitely will not return to this restaurant.
Kacee made the evening phenomenal. We (party of 7) are from out of town. She is a great ambassador of Spokane. We loved every food item she recommended on the menu and every place she recommended to visit. Great food. The staff was even better!
Terrific meal marred by the acoustics. Large, loud parties will spoil the evening as they did mine. Out of the control of the proprietor, but s/he should do something to mitigate the noise.
Service was great but I was disappointed with the vegetarian options. The main entree section only had 1 vegetarian option of stuffed bell peppers and they weren't that great.
Overall it was a good experience, there were 6 of us with 3 giving a thumbs up an the other three a thumbs down. The thumbs up was for the duck, rib eye and seafood trio (scallop, shrimp & lobster). The thumbs down was the 3 seafood hot pots. The sauce had the taste and consistancy of Campbels canned tomatoe soup which detracted from the seafood.
Scratch is our go-to place when we stop over in Spokane. Great room, fantastic menu, and wonderful service. And a great wine list. All of our meals here have been special. the seafood dishes are exceptionally well prepared. We're from Vancouver BC and eat a lot of seafood and the plates here are top notch. A great place for a special meal!
Really great restaurant and experience. In town on business and looking for a nice meal and Scratch delivered.
Best calamari!! Server was very good, it was busy but he was still attentive. Pasta and doughnuts were amazing too. Love the wine magnets! We will be back!
