In general, everything was really good, but we were charged an automatic 20% gratuity because we were a party of six. There was a very small, illegible footnote in the menu about this that was impossible to see. It's not the end of the world, but the restaurant should do a better job of notifying customers about the automatic 20% gratuity for groups of six or more.
Love their vegetarian menu. Excellent wine. Great service!
Food is actually quite good, but the quantity seems small for the price.
We came for Thanksgiving meal but the meal was not available. Its website posted the Thanksgiving menu but was not specified that it was only available on Thanksgiving day. A big disappointment. We had to order something else. Food and service were OK. But there were parties around so it was very noisy.
Very expensive for the quality of food. Service was pleasant but not very engaging.
Very disappointing though wait for seating was too long it seems that the process was convoluted. For the waiter to arrive with water was unacceptable long. The order process was awkward with the electronic ordering system and then food took to long to arrive basics like ketchup And water had to be requested multiple times. The prices were higher than expected given the level of service.
Terrible experience. Our server was rushing us through everything. Service messed up dishes, overcooked fish, underwhelming steak and chops. Will not be back
Great location, nice looking space. And then the service and food started. This place is completely overpriced - dinner for 2, which included 2 glasses of wine and no dessert, totaled $180. The prices would lead you to believe that the service / ambiance would be great - however this place is more suited to families. There were a lot of children running around unsupervised (and I had a child with me - I get it. But wow!). Will not be back and will actively recommend against.
The spicy margarita was fabulous!!!! The food was delicious and the service was great! We had the lobster and the scallops. Both were very fresh, cooked to perfection, and delicious. The bacon wrapped dates were also a delicious treat! I will return to scratch again in the future.
Wish the service matched the food. Good looking spot, we’ve been there multiple times, knowing up front we will be sacrificing good service in the name of having a good meal. This visit was no exception. Barely greeted, no acknowledgement from the on duty host or manager when we left, service was the usual - poor. Who delivers a cheese plate and doesn’t bother to tell you what is on it? Who doesn’t preset for the next course? Whochecks back when you are halfway through the entree? Who literally drops a dessert menu on the table without a word and doesn’t even offer coffee? We skipped dessert because we just couldn’t bear to spend any more hard earned money on a server that either didn’t care or was poorly trained.
The only food item I wish they’d lose is the dark bread served because it’s terribly dry. But otherwise the food was terrific, as usual.
The beet salad is big enough for sharing. The scallops were tender and seasoned to perfection. The waiter’s wine recommendation was perfect.
The first time we tried to get into Scratch for dinner before the theater we couldn't get in; this time I called a day earlier and was happy to be able to get a reservation. The service and food were excellent -- servers attentive but not annoying. Cocktail list was interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed the vodka cucumber lemongrass special drink that I had. (One drawback: My husband was dismayed to see that they don't have Scotch in the bar -- that seemed a bit strange.) We had the calamari appetizer (YUMMY!) and my husband had a very interesting Caesar salad; unusual ingredients and lovely presentation. We had the halibut special and ahi tuna for dinner. My ahi tuna was delicious seared gently and served with a risotto patty and greens; my husband's halibut was delicious as well. We did not have time for dessert, but I definitely want to go back sometime when we can stay for dessert. And we will definitely go back!!!
Scratch is my go-to special occasion meal in Mountain View. The food is reliably delicious, the service friendly & attentive, and the cocktails are strong & tasty.
Good food and fine service. The pot roast was so tender and delicious. Veronica took great care of us at this birthday celebration.
Uninspired overpriced food in small portions
Eggplant dish dry, tough barely edible
No returns for us
The menu is a little pricey for what you get at brunch. We paid $51 for lunch for food that should have cost maybe $25. They burned my english muffin, way over-seasoned our brussel sprouts.
Extremely disappointed in the food. We were a party of 5 for brunch and all ordered Different items. And not a single person was happy with their food. Service and ambience was excellent but we will not be coming back. Extremely overpriced for the quality we received.
Great evening for our group, service was fast, food and drinks were good!
Cuz we were seated next to a large group it was difficult to hear each other. Chicken was dry and artichokes under cooked.
We really enjoyed our 1st experience at Scratch. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Will definitely return.
Food was excellent. Service was neglectful, and obviously inexperienced & not well trained.
Food is always good here, although the short rib this time needs more flavor.
Servers were not very attentive.
Food very good. Wine list excellent. Vegetarian options a little weak.
Should have paid more attention to previous, recent reviews. Had similar experience as other dinners re service and also thinking food was over priced for what it was. We had 6 in our party and since gratuity is include it was obvious the waiter did the absolute bare minimum. Also gave us the wrong leftovers.
Had made comments in Open table that we were celebrating a special occasion. While I don't expect any freebies a simple acknowledgement would have been appreciated and a good gesture.
Wanted to give them a chance, but alas will definitely pay more attention to reviews from fellow diners next time.
I'd say the food was average. The presentation is nice and my husband liked his mushroom risotto but I found my ravioli to be a bit bland. This was the second time I had a pasta dish here and while they try to be creative with the ingredients, the taste flavor has been lacking. Just too bland for me.
my problem was the salad nicoise. Everything about the salad was great except the tuna. I don't know if it was the "sauce" on it or the quality, but it tasted more like sausage than tuna. It was a big dissapointment
The service and food are outstanding. The atmosphere is great! Thank you.
We (party of 8) had a great meal with good service.
The 4 of us had a Sunday brunch here. Ambiance was great. Service was good. Food was sub-par. Overall would come back for the ambiance & service but the food needs improvement and this made the higher menu prices a little distasteful.
