Very disappointing though wait for seating was too long it seems that the process was convoluted. For the waiter to arrive with water was unacceptable long. The order process was awkward with the electronic ordering system and then food took to long to arrive basics like ketchup And water had to be requested multiple times. The prices were higher than expected given the level of service.
Great location, nice looking space. And then the service and food started. This place is completely overpriced - dinner for 2, which included 2 glasses of wine and no dessert, totaled $180. The prices would lead you to believe that the service / ambiance would be great - however this place is more suited to families. There were a lot of children running around unsupervised (and I had a child with me - I get it. But wow!). Will not be back and will actively recommend against.
The spicy margarita was fabulous!!!! The food was delicious and the service was great! We had the lobster and the scallops. Both were very fresh, cooked to perfection, and delicious. The bacon wrapped dates were also a delicious treat! I will return to scratch again in the future.
Wish the service matched the food. Good looking spot, we’ve been there multiple times, knowing up front we will be sacrificing good service in the name of having a good meal. This visit was no exception. Barely greeted, no acknowledgement from the on duty host or manager when we left, service was the usual - poor. Who delivers a cheese plate and doesn’t bother to tell you what is on it? Who doesn’t preset for the next course? Whochecks back when you are halfway through the entree? Who literally drops a dessert menu on the table without a word and doesn’t even offer coffee? We skipped dessert because we just couldn’t bear to spend any more hard earned money on a server that either didn’t care or was poorly trained.
The only food item I wish they’d lose is the dark bread served because it’s terribly dry. But otherwise the food was terrific, as usual.
The first time we tried to get into Scratch for dinner before the theater we couldn't get in; this time I called a day earlier and was happy to be able to get a reservation. The service and food were excellent -- servers attentive but not annoying. Cocktail list was interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed the vodka cucumber lemongrass special drink that I had. (One drawback: My husband was dismayed to see that they don't have Scotch in the bar -- that seemed a bit strange.) We had the calamari appetizer (YUMMY!) and my husband had a very interesting Caesar salad; unusual ingredients and lovely presentation. We had the halibut special and ahi tuna for dinner. My ahi tuna was delicious seared gently and served with a risotto patty and greens; my husband's halibut was delicious as well. We did not have time for dessert, but I definitely want to go back sometime when we can stay for dessert. And we will definitely go back!!!
Extremely disappointed in the food. We were a party of 5 for brunch and all ordered Different items. And not a single person was happy with their food. Service and ambience was excellent but we will not be coming back. Extremely overpriced for the quality we received.
Should have paid more attention to previous, recent reviews. Had similar experience as other dinners re service and also thinking food was over priced for what it was. We had 6 in our party and since gratuity is include it was obvious the waiter did the absolute bare minimum. Also gave us the wrong leftovers.
Had made comments in Open table that we were celebrating a special occasion. While I don't expect any freebies a simple acknowledgement would have been appreciated and a good gesture.
Wanted to give them a chance, but alas will definitely pay more attention to reviews from fellow diners next time.
I'd say the food was average. The presentation is nice and my husband liked his mushroom risotto but I found my ravioli to be a bit bland. This was the second time I had a pasta dish here and while they try to be creative with the ingredients, the taste flavor has been lacking. Just too bland for me.
Our waiter was great. He was very accommodating and I am on a special diet. They made a special meal based on my needs which were very complex and they made me feel very comfortable. Would definitely recommend this restaurant, very customer oriented and delicious food. Service was terrific
Not too loud so you can have a conversation. And the service was pretty decent. But the food was just bad. We ordered off the vegetarian menu, and everything we got lacked in flavor (we had to ask for salt and pepper). Even the chocolate brownie sundae was disappointing and we left most of it. Not recommended.
Avoid this restaurant!
Scratch is just a trendy, loud, way over priced restaurant with mediocre food and abysmal service.
This is no joke. Our waiter took our order after waiting over 15 minutes and returned only to bring the check after we flagged down another waiter and requested our check... over an hour and a half later later. No asking how our meal was. No asking for a drink refill. No asking if we wanted dessert. Horrible service.
Our food took absolutely forever, and it was a Monday night at 7:00 when we had a reservation. The kitchen must be completely disorganized.
The restaurant is also far to loud. Nearly impossible to hear others at your table.
Avoid Scratch. There are far better restaurants in the area. I could go on about how bad this place is, but I've made my point.
If you want a terrific meal with outstanding service go to Don Giovanni's down the street. We ate there on Sunday night and it is absolutely fantastic.
Have dined here many times, for dinner and lunch. The food has always been outstanding. Service is fine although it can be confused and inattentive. For example, in our latest experience: 1) it took several minutes for a host to arrive at the desk to take us to our table; 2) the initial server brought us lunch menus; 3) the second server told us that lunch was no longer served, took the lunch menus away, and returned with dinner menus after taking our beverage order; 4) a third server brought our beverages and, slightly frazzled by who knows what, absent-mindedly took our food order (...amazingly, the orders were correct); 5) a fourth server delivered our meals after a long delay. (All this and we were the only diners in the restaurant at the time!)
One last comment: the restaurant should consolidate the seven, large, separate, loose-leaf, menu pages into one or two pages or create a multi-page bound menu. There were the aforementioned lunch menus (eventually replaced by dinner menus) plus a gluten-free menu plus a bar menu plus an organic menu plus a specials menu plus a spirit menu plus a wine and beer menu. How about just one food menu and one beverage menu so that the table isn't completely covered in menus and the diners aren't juggling all of that?!?!? It was comical!
We've been there several times. Diverse menu with great vegetarian and gluten-free options.
I loved their crispy tofu dish: interesting flavors.
Great cocktail and wine selection, but for $16 -- really? That's ridiculous for a mid-level restaurant.
We like the place, but it has become over-priced. There are lots of other choices on Castro St in Mountain View.
Great fried chicken, but everything else was average this time. My rating is based on all my cumulative (8) visits to this restaurant. The short rib is also excellent. However, that artichoke appetizer is the worst I've ever had. No substance to the artichoke and the dressing was very sour. Overall I like this place but it's not a place that comes to mind immediately. Very good service this visit.
