Food was nothing special. Certainly not commensurate with the prices. Not too many customers the day we were there - maybe this is the reason why. Would not recommend it.
Modern setting serving delicious American cuisine.
Varied menu, and food was good. Nice pour on the bubbles.
Bartender was scattered & had no sense of timing
Very nice menu with a lot of options to please a variety of tastes. Excellent wine selection.
Great fried chicken! Cheerful service. Excellent menu choices.
Weird. Service was off. Food was great. I have been here several times and it’s usually great. This time was less great.
I LOVE the vegetarian options at Scratch. Unfortunately we seem to come on a night where service was lacking. While the staff was amazing, the wait time for drinks and the the wrong food that arrived was disappointing. I am hoping it was just an off night because I do love their menu and ambience.
Pliny the Elder and meatloaf. Absolutely fantastic.
Very good wine list. Food is good and plentiful. Quite pricey. Very noisy
We had the traditional eggs Benedict and the Scratch pizza flatbread and both were very good. It’s lovely to sit out on the patio for brunch at a table by the hedges and watch the parade of people on the sidewalk.
This place is great for business lunches, meetings, etc. Great setting and fantastic food. I have no idea why it's not busier during the day when other, very mediocre restaurants are packed for lunch? One of my Mt View favorites for sure!
I'm the executive assistant supporting two teams. On that day I had two separate dinners. The restaurant was so amazing and accommodating for all my several changes. I attended one of the dinners and really enjoyed my time there, the food and service was excellent.
Superb food and attentive (and expeditious!) service. This will be our go-to restaurant when we have Theatreworks tickets.
The food is always good at Scratch. However, the salad I ordered had too much arugula and couldn't find the string beans that were supposed to be in my salad. Everything was buried under the arugula, but the tuna ahi was very good, but sparse. It is always very quiet when I go there and the food is made from "scratch" so that is why they call it Scratch. The atmosphere is very nice. However, the name of the restaurant is not very visible.
The food was delicious. We had breakfast, a couple of Benedicts, Crab cake brioche, & a lobster roll. Everyone like their entree & the coffee. They also comped us a creme Brulee for my son's birthday! All the desserts we ordered were great & the raspberry garnishes were the best raspberries that I have ever tasted! The place was lovely and our waiter, Juan was so attentive. We were all surprised they weren't busier? Also parking was easy, which we were not expecting for downtown Mountain View! It was a litter more expensive than we expected, but worth every penny.
Great food, really great food. Make sure you save room for dessert.
The look and feel of the restaurant is dated. It’s out of place. It has a lot of potential.
Great food and exceptional service!
Great food! Our waiter was excellent. Two reasons for subtracting a star 1. There were two women in the booth behind us who were belligerently drunk and cursing/slurring very loud and it definitely impacted the atmosphere 2. The bussers tried to take our food 3 times while we were still eating, it’s rude, interrupts and rushes the dining experience and doesn’t allow for a romantic date.
We had our second great meal at Scratch in Mountain View tonight. I ordered from the Sunday Supper menu that is a three course meal for a fixed price from 5-7pm on Sunday (check their website for the choices). I had a spring mix salad to start, halibut entre and a banana tartlet for dessert. The halibut was lightly seasoned and sautéed served on a bed of green beans and sliced fingerling potatoes with a tomato purée and tarpon oil which was really delicious. My wife had ordered the filet mignon special (not from the Sunday Supper menu) that was cooked to perfection served on a sourdough crostini with broccolini. Since they are 2 for 2 we will definitely be back.
Things have changed quite a bit since I was last there.
Ahi Tuna dish was to die for!!!
Well worth the wait for meal to come out. It is really made from scratch....not reheated like most places these days. Get biscuits....as good or better than Grandmas
Service and ambiance were both good for a business dinner. However the food has really slipped to poor status. Tough, dried out chicken, tasteless vinaigrette and no avocado on a Cobb salad. Cold calamari, stale bread, terrible deviled eggs. Will not return or recommend.
While the ambiance is great, the food is quite expensive and does not deliver at a high level.
The food was delicious, however, not worth the terrible service and time it took for the food to come out.
Great presentation of food and great food. Menu has not changed much for a while but is always a great place to go for casual or.l business meetings.
Great food, service was pretty good just needs perhaps more experience. Will go back soon
I’ve been to Scratch a few times and even though the food is really good, the service always knocks my review down. We were a group of 4 for dinner and we were promptly brought water and bread/butter. Our orders were taken promptly too. Once our food was brought to us, we were invisible. Food was delicious, but Water refills? Had to flag down a bus boy and that wasn’t easy. Getting our waiter to box up things to go? He was nowhere to be found. One in our party would have ordered another glass of wine but nobody asked. We finally got him to bring dessert menus and desserts were terrific. But the service has got to improve. It’s really pretty simple
We had brunch here and the food was outstanding. It's definitely one of our new spots in Mountain View.
This restaurant has a great balance in their menu between vegetarian option and non veg options. There is something for everyone. One criticism I would make is that we allowed the waiter to pick a red wine by the glass for one of the people who were with us and when we got the bill, the wine he picked was $20 a glass. We were all shocked at that decision by him and not letting us know ahead of time.
Fantastic business lunch, very easy to have a conversation and the watermelon salad was GREAT!
Loved the fried chicken. Skip the Caesar salad. Keep room for dessert!
In looking for a well-reviewed weekend brunch spot in downtown Mtn View, I came across Scratch and decided to give it try. My companion and I had reservations at Noon on a Sunday, allowing 2 hours before our TheaterWorks play across the street. Upon walking in, you have to walk around the bar to find the maitre 'd. Once there, they found our reservation and we were quickly seated in a mostly open restaurant. There were few patrons, so it was quiet and comfortable until they started seating other diners immediately next to us, although there was plenty of room to leave an empty table between parties. The server did not speak much or make recommendations, but he was polite, quick and efficient. The menu offered good choices for both breakfast and lunch at that hour. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes which were excellent, though I did need to order an extra side. My companion had fish and chips which was delicious. They easily accommodated her request to substitute cocktail sauce for tartar sauce. We lingered at the table with our coffee and espresso since the atmosphere was pleasant and it was easy to talk. I would definitely go back and recommend this spot to friends. It would probably be a busier spot if they had an easier-to-read sign, as the one above the door is quite hard to read (non-descript). Access to free parking is just around the side of the restaurant, accessible by a breezeway. I took the light rail with a short walk from Mountain View station.
Sad... just sad. The food is overpriced, not great quality at all. The restaurant was beat down, with paint chips everywhere. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned, the chairs were in bad quality.
The mussels were so incredibly tiny, it was embarrassing.
For the location where the restaurant is situated, it’s pales in comparison.
Most definitely will not return!
Good for large groups but very noisy.
A little on the pricy side
Really enjoyed our dinner. We had our Mackin Company Christmas party there the year before last and it was great but that was the last time I had ate there. It was lovely to come back and the food and service was excellent. Will have to go back again.
Limited menu. Food was OK. Nice atmosphere. Friendly, efficient staff.
A very pleasant find before a Sunday theatre matinee. The brunch was delicious, well presented, and very courteous, attentive service. I live in San Francisco but will definitely come back again when I am next in the South Bay.
Great happy hour value, even on the weekends. Tasty and generous portions. Might be a little pricey when considering the "comfort food" menu options, but worth it. The servers were attentive and accomodating. Parking was easy and the restaurant wasn't very busy, even for a Saturday night. We enjoyed the quiet ambiance, which allowed for easy conversation. Oysters were fresh, Old Fashioned cocktail was strong and smooth, and short ribs entree was tender and flavorful. We will be back.
