I love to go to Scott’s before the theater. With reservations, you can get in and have a lovely meal and pleanty of time to walk one block to the theater. Usually, I love what I order. This time, I ordered trout for the first time and I found it to be utterly tasteless. Back to my favorites next time!
Yesterday my family dined at Scott's Seafood to celebrate my mother's birthday. The restaurant did not set up a window table for our special occasion as I had requested on my Opentable reservation. When I complained to the hostess, she was not apologetic but instead gave me some very lame excuse which I didn't accept and asked her to set up a window table for our party of 10 anyway. Then she summoned the Asst Manager to our table and what an AMAZING experience. Mr. Robert, the Asst Manager, showed me the table they set up for us if we wanted to change (which my family didn't want to anymore since we were already seated and started eating Bread) and proceeded to graciously tell me that as an apology to us for not heeding my request, he would comp our appetizers for us (2 orders of Oysters Rockefeller totaling $34 and 3 orders of Crab Cakes totaling $54) which certainly made me more than happy. Then at the end of our meal, our wonderful waiter Jean-Luc brought out a complimentary Scott's Classic Rapsberry Jack ($8) with a lighted candle for our dear mother and informed us that to apologize for the mixup about our table, the restaurant would comp BOTH our apps and our desserts (3 orders of Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee totaling $27 and 1 Warm Molten Chocolate Cake for $9). We were very impressed. Then upon receiving our check afterwards, we were extremely surprised (and DELIGHTED) that the restaurant also comped our 2 Basil Fruit Mojito Mocktails totaling $14 and a Blue Moon Beer of $6.50 as well. That was INCREDIBLE! Scott's Seafood and Mr. Robert had gone ABOVE and BEYOND to make up for the mistake of not setting up a window table for us with all the good will gestures. THANK YOU Scott's Seafood and Robert for making our evening special by treating us with such respect and genuine hospitality! We WILL be BACK.
very average food and we were charged extra for ordering a martini "up". that was a first! I get paying for specific brand of gin or vodka but, because it is served in a martini glass!! Really!? The manager would not adjust and was kind of a jerk. I won't be going back.
Overall we had an ok experience for my wife’s birthday. My request for a window seat went unanswered in lieu of leaving multiple tables opened for parties who never showed up for roughly the 2 hrs we were there. Our server, while fantastic and polite was overworked. Certainly no fault of his own. The food was extremely overpriced for the quality we received. I understand when market prices apply food can be raised in price but Scott’s had virtually no flavor for the expense we paid. I expected more. My Bloody Mary had more spice and flavor than the jambalaya and seafood pasta did. It’s a beautiful restaurant and space but the staff seemed overwhelmed and the quality and taste of the food was disappointing.
Would I give it another shot? Sure, but if it disappointed again I’d never waste the money.
Scott's is a great destination point in San Jose. They have excellent seafood and a beautiful view from the window on the 6th floor. The calimari appetizer is always delicious. And the seared ahi tuna is always a favorite. the green salad was nice that they split for us. My salmon dish was very good and the petrale sole was very good, too. Overall, Scott's is a very good restaurant witha beautiful window view.
Over many years we have had wonderful dinners at Scott's and will continue to go there for dinner.
As we had attended "sponsored" brunches there over several years...quite good...when we needed a spot near the CPA for brunch, Scott's came to mind.
We were looking forward to the promised jazz which we did enjoy!
This review pertains strictly to Sunday Brunch:
For quite some time, service was nonexistent. We served ourselves to the buffet and waited some more. Drinks were not forthcoming...no water, no coffee.
They were very much understaffed. Some staff came on after we'd been there an hour but there was a party in the banquet room, outside was full and it simply was not enough.
After requesting coffee from two different servers...hard to find any servers...and both said they'd bring it and did not, we got up and went to the kitchen to request coffee...twice! Finally it came and was cold! And it was cold the second time after we'd been told it would be a fresh pot!
We were not offered Mimosa's which apparently are included in the brunch price.
Eventually a manager came around and offered to totally comp us which we refused... vehemently. When he returned with our credit card bill it reflected a 50% discount. We gave up on protesting, paid and tipped.
The apologetic manager asked us to please come back to Scott's and we assured him that we would for dinner and absolutely would not for brunch except for the annual "sponsored" brunch which the four of us always do attend.
Too few servers trying to serve too many people.
A wide variety of buffet items...some not so good. In particular the two salmon items: one covered with egg and cheese...so I was told (couldn't have identified that!) and the other very sweet...
At the "sponsored" brunch more is self serve and mimosas and included drinks are self serve at the bar.
More staff and more set up for self service would help.
And we do look forward to many more lovely dinners at Scott's!
The ambience and live music was great. I was not impressed with the food, I did enjoy my salad. I don’t mind paying for great food but but this was just k for me. The service was okay, the waitress seemed busy and not focused. I would probably just go back for appetizers & drinks.
We were looking forward to a great meal on the outdoor patio but unfortunately after sitting down, the patio area smelled like old clams shells. The servers were more worried about closing up the place than service and it was only 9:00. Ultimately it was a disappointing evening at Scott’s. Lots of nice places to eat in the vicinity, think those would have been a better choice.
The services were so bad, they brought one plate so dirty to the table , then no knife to cut the filet mignon, the beverages were took so long just to bring a beer and then no tools to open the king crab legs and no basket to disposal the shell very very poor management.
Had a reservation, seated 20 mins after... had left notes that it was our 30th anniversary when booking , no consideration. Service was slow , they seemed short staffed, one person took our drink order not our waiter, possible manager. Took awhile to get drinks, longer than normal. Ordered food, it came, mine was warm , my husbands cold. Told waiter, he took it back. I started to eat mine but wanted to wait and eat together since it was our anniversary. By the time his food came back mine was now cold . His came back cold a second time, we notified manager. They apologized, food cold twice? Unacceptable, they were going to comp the meal we didn’t eat. No one came back to check up on us, we left a tip for server and left. Very disappointed, we used to come a lot for special occasions and bring our family, not anymore. It used to be one of my favorite places.
The crab cakes and pumpkin soup were delicious, as was the Mahi Mahi special. The jambalaya was so-so. Service was lacking. We waited too long between soup and entrees and for a refill of my tea. The restaurant itself is very nice. Overall I was a little disappointed considering the price I paid.
Enjoyed a birthday dinner. Food, service, ambience all great. Even got a complimentary birthday dessert. An added touch last Saturday was a talented 3-piece band instrumental and singing. Good choice of music and volume was just right for enjoyment and conversation.
I went here on a Monday night for a business dinner with 3 others. It was good, the main course was good, the Lobster bisque was a bit of a let down though.
The service was the soft point. The initial contact from the waitress took about 5 min, and she was unfamiliar with the specials and the menu as she had to check on specials and come back to us. She also asked my business customer if she was mixed (racially black/white), and said she looks just like her mixed friend. which I thought was wildly inappropriate.
The main course was great, but for the service I will not be back.
I usually don’t give reviews but I was so disappointed that I just had to tell you about this. We ordered the calamari to share as an appetizer which was way over done. I ordered the sea bass that was tasteless and over cooked and very dry. My husband ordered the trout and said it was just okay. Our waiter was running around and very impatient. We decided not to have dessert and when he brought our check he charged us twice for every dish we ordered. Of course he corrected the mistake. We will not go back.
Came here for dinner to celebrate a friend's bday and food was delicious. I ordered the lobster and my friend ordered the cioppino...both dishes were delicious. Restaurant was quiet despite us being a bit more boisterous. Restaurant a bit dated but the nice views more than compensate for some of the dated decor. Wish the bar was a little bit bigger but overall a good experience and I'll be back.
Really nice for low key special occasion celebrations. They special printed the menus which was a nice keepsake. And special birthday dessert without the big noisy Birthday singing.
Food is great. Beautiful and balanced. Staff are attentive and move at your pace.
Our server went above and beyond and gave us a wonderful experience. I made a request for him to say something off-script when he was telling us about the specials, and he was such a good sport about it. It really made my girlfriend's night and gave us a great laugh. Food was excellent and fairly priced. It was relatively noisy in the restaurant, but I understand Friday night at 7 is a very popular time for any good restaurant. We will be back very soon!
