About

Our Fisherman's Wharf seafood restaurant is steeped in a family tradition of quality and service. Still family owned and operated, Scoma’s opened in 1965, when brothers Al and Joe Scoma took over a six table coffee shop serving fishermen on the wharf. Using their mother’s recipe collection, the Scoma brothers' humble café evolved over the years becoming the quintessential San Francisco dining destination it is today.

Scoma's no longer uses Open Table so the hostesses said they would try to seat us. They did finally seat us after we reminded them we were waiting. The food was not worth the price nor wait.

Great food at a great out-of-the-way Fisherman's Wharf location.
Sonny was our waiter and he was wonderful.
Definitely worth a visit.

Scoma's is an old favorite of mine, and every time I'm in the Bay Area Scoma's is a must! Right around the corner from tourist hell and tucked away nicely on a quiet pier where you can always count on excellent food and service.

We've been coming to Scomas for more than 40 years. Each and every time we have never been disappointed nor unhappy with the food, the service or the atmosphere. We chose to come back to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.
We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and were immediately shown to our table .
Our waiter whose name was Sonny was a familiar face and greeted us warmly. He had been our waiter in previous visits.
The cocktails and food were excellent.
Once again we left with warm memories and smiles on our faces.
Thank you.

We arrived a half hour early and sat with our party of 7 in one of the two lounges instead of the bar. We ordered drinks and appetizers that were served promptly by our designated lounge waiter. We enjoyed both appetizers. We were also seated at our reservation time and had excellent service. Dinner was delicious! Four of our seven family members are gluten free and had plenty of delicious choices. We also ordered desert. We highly recommend the mango sorbet and the salted Carmel gelato. Absolutely delicious and large helpings to share with our entire table. We also appreciated the valet parking which added to our excellent visit.

Super expensive and fast-food grade food. We were so disappointed. Ordered special fried sole - was dried out and not good. Also ordered Cioppino and was worst I ever had. Can't believe they are well known for this dish. Mussels were old and nasty tasting, over cooked, and tomato broth was like V8 juice boiled and poured over the sea food. I would not recommend this place. This was the second time I've been here and both times were awful and outrageously expensive.

Gem. Just flew across country and had made this reservation. Went in tired. Was comforted by excellent service, great house Cabernet, a Caesar salad with a lighter very flavorful dressing, a wonderful seafood specialty dish with spinach and orzo on the bottom, and the scrumptious bread. Two of us shared our meal and we're beyond happy when leaving.

Fantastic seafood experience the Bay Area way. I was born and raised in the area but have lived away in Colorado for 25 years now, so it is always a treat to stop by Scoma's. Ciopino , crab, and staff are the best in the area and make me feel like I never left.

We were unable to make our reservation for Scoma's and I could not cancel on line. I contacted
opentable and let them know that we would not be there. I also called the restaurant and cancelled.

Our waiter was this nice Chinese man who steered us to some delicious food and a great dessert.

WAY overpriced. I had (the server's) recommended shellfish stirfry, a $45 mistake with an unfortunate taste and overwhelmed with sauteed onions (!). My wife had the Petrale sole, a generous portion that we both judged utterly tasteless ($30). Oh, and I started with an $8 bowl of New England Clam Chowder, so laden with flour I could have stood a spoon up in it. All this and a beer for about $190 including tip. This experience was oh, so disappointing after having read very positive reviews elsewhere. I went back and checked that site-all the very negative reviews were in the last 3-4 months. Clearly something has gone terribly awry. My wife and I are big seafood fans and we have, individually or together, lived in California, New York City, and Florida. Scoma's didn't cut it in any way.

This is a great, swank place that makes you feel glamorous just sitting in it. The atmosphere is somewhat quiet but not in a serious way - it's more like a muted elegance. Definitely memorable and well worth the visit. Book at least a few nights ahead.

Excellent seafood place near busy Fisherman's Wharf area in San Francisco. Off a side street and onto the quiet per area. Outstanding meals with prawns and crab dishes. I have been there at least 6 times over the past few years and have had great time every visit. Seafood is very fresh well prepared and the wait staff is always superb.

Cioppino all around! Fabulous seafood array in delicious tomato broth. They also made us a custom pasta dish - that was more than what we asked for. Highly recommend for any seafood lover! Don't forget to start with the calamari :)

Have been to Scoma's restaurant several times over the years, was a bit disappointed with my most recent visit. We were seated promptly and we're given our requested window table. The challenges began with the wait staff. Our waiter was fairly cold and uninterested in our needs. My roasted crab was good, but not as great as the price would suggest. The other dishes were a disappointment. The mixed seafood grill had a couple of pieces of fish which were over-cooked and somewhat dry. My guest characterized the dish as bland and lackluster. The Pappardelle was well made and tender, however the Bolognese Sauce was under seasoned to our taste.

All in all, a disappointing dinner at a previously wonderful restaurant. I'll definitely think twice before going back next time through San Francisco.

The food was very good and fresh. It was a bit noisy due to us being seated next to a private party room with an open door. I would recommend that you sit up front near the windows since the view is very nice.

Other than the chanting (and obviously NOT local) private party in the adjacent room bluring trump victory chants (really? they must have been oblivious to their locale), it was a fine meal with an attentive server. My favorite part was the eggplant accompaniment to the seared ahi appetizer. My 6 year old's linguine in marinara sauce was simple and delicious. The shortribs were cooked to perfection. The prosecco was served icy cold as I like it. I went in expecting one of those places that "gets away" with subpar food due to location, view or history - but was pleasantly surprised by the fresh ingredients and attention to detail with the presentation. The wait staff was incredible as well - all of them (front desk slightly bland and lacking a welcoming appeal with any enthusiasm or actual awareness however). The bar looked fun and lively. Maybe we will go there next time for a different vibe. Not sure about the upstairs but noticed it as we walked out. We have lived in SF for 16 years and with the abundance of offerings, have only been here 3 times and so I'm glad we decided to visit. Usually while at the Wharf (we are an anomaly of locals that actually go here!) we tend to choose the Franciscan.

We went for our first time to Scoma's. Service was slow and inattentive. The food was very expensive considering the quality was subpar and not very flavorful. The tomato base of the cioppino was bland. The two good things was the spinach salad with polenta croutons and the Manhattan. Overall I felt it was a lot of money for the experience.

Actually on a pier - small - views limited but the fresh fish was outstanding- even the butternut squash soup I wanted seconds!
Sal was an excellent guide as we ate our way through the evening from starters of oysters to a hazelnut chocolate cake for dessert.

The food was great. Seafood was absolutely fresh. Cioppino
Is the winner, but could be shared. The food comes pretty quickly so it won't be a long romantic dinner. Also reservations are pretty much required. They turned away quite a few people while we were there.
