About
much too noisy; the thumping bass of the rap-like music was not fun or enjoyable. the restaurant's idea of a "dining room" is really not that...it's just a big beer hall. the food is good but somewhat limited choices.
Love this place! Great place to go to get into a good mood, with friends or alone. German beers are awesome. I had the Spaten, so good -- light, refreshing, full of flavor. We always get a pretzel and this time, tried the brat/curry sauce tater tots. Yummy, although a little more expensive then I would have expected. Glad we shared.
Always a hit for a team event. Food is great and love the beer selection. Thank you!
I like tangy-er sauerkraut and mine was kind of bland but over all the food was very good.
The noise level is off the scale to me... I have limited hearing so the noise level made it very difficult for me to converse with my party.
Pretty good. Service was slow at first but picked up as bigger groups left. Great for younger bar crowd of you want a very loud restaurant to meet people and have some drinks. Not so good for couples looking for a quiet night out. Made our reservations on Open table thinking we were getting a quiet dining room as it plainly states on the OpenTable app that the reservation will be for their dining room and not for the bar area. But upon arrival we were sat in the bar area anyway. You will be sitting with other people at your table with only a plant between you. Food was pretty good. Your basic bar food.
Ugh. Bad food, loud as hell, overall pretty bad. Not returning.
Excellent food/excellent service
Great food, beer and German music!
I love German food, but this was something altogether different. I had Jaeger Schnitzel and the red cabbage and sauerkraut did not taste like anything I've ever had before. Very strange spices that didn't work. The presentation with the salad greens dumped on top of the whole plate didn't wow me either.
We had a great waiter. But he got my order wrong. Hard to believe, but wrong sausage. When I asked him, he didn’t understand. I like the joint, but it is overpriced. Empty today. Plus it asked me to reconfirm my reservation twice. At a half empty joint. Get over yourself. When there is European soccer, you guys are an option. The rest of the year you are a very expensive lunch option.
Soccer noise shattered our conversation. We should have anticipated this and planned lunch at a Chinese restaurant instead! Meanwhile, rest assured that we will return to Schroeder’s again some quiet afternoon!
Has become very pricey. Over $50 for lunch for 2 with one appetizer and no alcohol.
Great service- very friendly, accommodating. Fun place to hang out. Love all the Schnitzel dishes. One of our favorite go to restaurants!
We had so much fun! Great polka band - great food!
We had q great time, food was well done and service even better.
I have not been here in many years. They have updated the decor and streamlined the menu. They still have your wursts and schnitzel but I miss my favorite, sauerbraten with potato pancakes. The staff is friendly and very competent. If you are in the Financial District and have an appetite for German food, this is the place to come.
Pre-holiday party drinks and dinner with the team. Excellent service and wonderful food. We had a jolly time!
We showed up on a whim and had a great time! We ordered the sausage platter and a few 1L beers and shared it among the group! Great choice! Service was great and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun! Definitely coming back next time we are in town!
nice spot for a more casual business lunch. menu is the same as dinner, service was good and noise level much more subdued than happy hour and on.
A delightful band, delicious food, and good waitstaff. Our main frustration was that any conversation was impossible due to the deafening noise level. The OpenTable confirmation contained text indicating that we had made a reservation in their formal dining room when it was actually for a seat in their beer hall. This glitch should be corrected. The staff attempted to do their best in a difficult situation.
My friend and I were seeking a German restaurant and were so happy to have gone to Schroeder's. A wonderful waitress gave us advice and answered our questions on the menu. I asked to be guided to a sweet riesling wine and my friend to a more dry wine. I loved my selection. We shared a fantastic pretzel with beer cheese, the wiener schnitzel, a side of fried spaetzle and apple strudel. Every bite was authentic, well-prepared and tasty. I can't wait to return.
Lots of fun, great food and wonderful service. AUTHENTIC!
Great ambience they had a band and we danced with them. It was awesome.
This is a fantastic spot with history and I am so glad it’s still around
Authentic German food, mixed with American cuisine. One of my SF Financial District favorites.
What a fun restaurant! The food was every bit as good as the food we had in Germany.
Great food and service. Hadn't been there in a long time and was happy to return.
From the bartenders to table service at dinner, the staff was completely attentive and friendly. We enjoyed rounds of cold beer, warm pretzels, spaetzle, sliders, sausages, bratwurst, and more. All tasty. My only feedback was $18 was super costly for a sausage and a little mashed potatoes and kraut. $13-$15 more reasonable.
Just another loud sports bar with marginal quality food. However, the German beer was good but a wider selection would be better.
When I go to an ethnic restaurant I expect the decor and ambienance to be also ethnic, wheather it's French, Italian, Greek, Chinese, etc. I was born in American with 100% German parts and been to Munich several times. Schroeders is supposed to be a German restaurant serving German food. The decor is just a big room with half picnic tables and half tables for 2 or 4. The beer stein collection is imperssive but did little to enhanse teh ambienance. The music playing was the Eagles and not the slightest hint of Germany. The food was 'reminisant" of German food. The beer selcetion was fairly good. Over all I'd rate Schroeders as just OK.
Always impressed by Schroeder’s! Great beer list, excellent food, and good service. Just be aware that it can get loud with the beer hall nearby on a busy night.
One of the few places left in the country where you can find very good German food. The weiner schnitzel a la holstein (which means fried eggs and capers on top of veal) was excellent and they have the best red cabbage I have had. This is a place for hearty meals in a pleasantly informal setting. The current remodel has preserved the best of the old restaurant in a newer and fresher context.
Food was tasty, fresh and nicely presented. Excellent service. Great for a quick bit to eat if you arrive before noon.
Fun for our big group. Great, boisterous atmosphere.
Great spot for authentic German beer and food. Great decor reminiscent of a beer hall and attentive service. Food prices at lunch/dinner are a bit tough to swallow and portions are average for the high prices. At least they adhere to the Euro / Bavarian beer laws and serve beer by the .3 / .5 / 1.l sizes so you know what you are getting.
Have lived in SF over 30 years, never been to Schroeder's. Tom was here 50 years ago when it was men only, finally accepting women for dinner in the 60's. Very good for what it is, namely a German beer hall. Clam chowder (soup of the day) was really excellent, non-rubber clams, not floury or pasty, good use of dill and other herbs. Strudel was disappointing, undercooked and pasty interior pastry. Veal was good. Red cabbage was simply braised - I could not tell if there was any apple or other flavorings. No bread provided by we were there for restaurant week and had the 3 course lunch special. Glad we came. Would be happy to return.
I had not been in Schroeder's in 15 years and my friend had not been there in at least 20 years so we decided to try it. The food was okay, the restaurant was crowded, and the service was decent. I had hoped for more because there is so much competition. It was okay.
Food was great!
Super fun place with a great vibe and outstanding service! The food was super yummy and the portions are HUGE! Love the upscale German beer hall atmosphere. Definitely going back!
It was a little slow - our waitress said their kitchen staff was limited that day. But there was also a party of 40 next to us. The food was fantastic though!
