What a steak! Had to say that first. Everything was spectacular. Waiters were very impressive - and they were there to fill a water glass or whatever, great service. I’ll go back for SURE!

It has been about five years since visiting Schlesinger's and I forgot the reason we stopped going there. I was reminded Wednesday when our waiter also had a large party to deal with while other staff roamed about. Consequently, service was poor. We asked for bread four times before it arrive - cold and dried out. Thinking of the past, I ordered filet mignon rare; I received an extremely well-done chunk of meat in a shape resembling a mushroom. The dish of potatoes was cold.

My husband and I went out for the first time in six months, after our son was born, to enjoy a date night. We made reservations and off we went not 100% what to expect. As we entered the building the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Soft music played in the background and the lights lowered to give a romantic feel. We were quickly seated in a booth facing a quiet side street. Our waiter, Charles, was very polite and ready to answer all of our questions. He was very attentive to our needs before we even realized we had them. We got two seafood entrees, the rock fish and the crab cakes. Both were amazing. The rock fish was served in a butter sauce and the crab cakes had no fillers. Just two lump cakes filled with crab meat and seasonings. It was outstanding. When we thought we could eat another bite our desserts came, the bananas foster cheesecake and the chocolate punctuation! Both were sinfully delicious and well worth the wait. Our date night was a success. Good food, wonderful service and a night with my husband sans babies.

Always appreciate the email for our anniversary, BOGO! I made sure I had a reservation because two years ago we just showed up (on a Wednesday) at 5:30 and they said they would not have a table until 8 so we had to go elsewhere! So, with the reservation, we ordered our meals (BOGO not good on the prime rib special for the evening....) and ordered the oysters on the half shell for a starter. The oysters were very small and a couple of mine were chopped up into three pieces so I am not sure why they were served that way. Also, the dipping sauce was like cucumber in vinegar and when she asked if we wanted hot sauce, I assumed tobacco, but it was more like buffalo wing sauce. Not great, which was disappointing. I understand it is customary for chop houses to ask you to cut into your steak, but it is awkward when they are standing around waiting for you to cut into the middle and flashing a light on it. Mine was overdone, even a bit charred on the outside, but I didn't want to send it back and wait forever for the meal. Usually, an anniversary gets a split of champagne to toast but none was offered this year. Disappointing but generally a good place for special celebrations....just not this year.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful evening and experience at Schlesinger’s. Our steaks were fantastic. Best steak I’ve ever had. Our waiter Elijah was very attentive, friendly and made our first time there very nice. We will definitely be coming back!

An amazing menu and meal for a great price - Sunday brunch to celebrate my Mother's 75th birthday. The only thing was when I confirmed the reservation over the telephone (I had made it online), I told them the reason for our visit. They said they would put a candle in one of the desserts and bring it to my Mom tableside. But when we arrived, no one seemed to know anything about my Mother's celebration. She never received the dessert with the candle which was a little disappointing.

What an absolute gem of a find. Having visited great steakhouses around the country, I would rank Schlesinger's with the best of them. Great cuisine for each course; accompanied with superior drinks made for a great evening. Our server, Charles, was patient, gracious, and informative.

We can't wait to return.

Took mother for her 96th birthday. Also celebrated mine and my sister's birthday (same week). Surprised us with cupcake with candle (delicious and unexpected). We had a wonderful time together. Service was excellent and it was formal--liked linen tablecloths and the service was excellent. Perfect for special occasions. First time there--will definitely return. Only 1 of us 5 had been there before. We all enjoyed it. Atmosphere excellent. Ran into cousin there and also very old friends hadn't seen in awhile. Thank you so very much!!!!

The salt shaker was empty (it was filled upon request), but I should have too ask. It should be filled by the staff prior to opening. The garlic mashers were dry and tasteless (it was promptly taken care of by the waiter), however the replacement was not much better. We didn't say anything, it was not worth it. My boneless rib eye, though half was cooked as requested, was still tough. I didn't complain. I ate 1/3 and took the rest home to my pet. I am not convinced that this place used PRIME beef. I have had PRIME beef at Flemmmings and Ruth Chris, and this restaurant falls way short. This trip was paid for by a gift certificate from them after a 2015 Valentines dinner fell way short of expectations. They didn't fair much better this time either. This was my third trip to Schlesinger's in 4 years and each time the experience is far less than stellar. I will not recommend to my friends and I will not be returning. Perhaps residents in Newport News, VA think this place is great, but it is not, far from it. Lastly, there was a party/business meeting in the Kennedy room. Rude people, loud, and unnecessary for an evening dinner period at 6:30p, March 20, 2018, (leave the business meeting to Lunch).

This restaurant is a real treat! The food and the service are excellent. I have tried several things on the menu and they are all wonderful. Best crab cake I've had; the Mahi is delicious; the chicken is great, and so is the beef! Hands-down my favorite Newport News restaurant.

Used a birthday gift card for four of us for Sunday brunch buffet with reservation at 11:15am. We were seated at a table in side room where we could hear the guitarist but it was background instead of overwhelming. Kristen was a terrific server and kept our drinks filled and plates removed from table. Food was delicious and varied - the four of us had only praise for every dish and dessert from the freshness of the cut fruit to the variety of cheeses, from the sliced ham and beef to the mixed salads and chicken parm. The desserts were especially delicious from the sliced chocolate cake and s'mores trifle to the individual fruit tarts and shot glass servings. They offer bloody mary's and mimosas for $4.95. Hubby and I went to the seafood buffet at the Williamsburg Lodge a few weeks ago and were disappointed by the food choices and especially the quality so it was so great to have a most wonderful buffet experience at a restaurant nearer to our home.
I would like to suggest that Schlesinger's consider wiping down their chairs (a few crumbs) , wiping down the silverware (water spots on 3 of the 4 settings) and making sure plates do not have oily fingerprints on them (nuff said). I mention because it was really a top notch experience except for these few niggles. We'll be back...

We often visit Schlesinger's for special occasions, dinner specials, and lunch. Their meatloaf lunch special is awesome! The service is always excellent and the food is delicious. This past Sunday, I ordered the crab cake dinner and my husband order the seafood trio dinner. We also ordered wine since you can get a bottle for half price on Sunday. We left raving about the great atmosphere, food, service, and attention to detail. Looking forward to our next visit.

Went here for essentially a date night. Have been here several times before and it never disappoints. Both meals were excellent. Started with an appetizer of fried oysters that we split and she had a salad. My steak, the bone-in 18 ounce ribeye, was cooked perfectly. My date had beef medallions with risotto. Both meals were complemented with red wine. I chose the Rhino Cabernet Sauvignon and she had a Malbec. For dessert, we split a raspberry sorbet. Service is always excellent. They stayed on top of everything. Enjoyable night overall. Recommended!

I was there for my one year anniversary. The ambience was nice and when we were seated at our table there was a nice happy anniversary card on her table for us. My wife enjoyed her food but I didn’t particularly enjoy mine. I think our server was having an off night and I felt as if we weren’t a priority to him. My wife and I enjoyed each other‘s company more than I enjoyed the entire experience.
