Took mother for her 96th birthday. Also celebrated mine and my sister's birthday (same week). Surprised us with cupcake with candle (delicious and unexpected). We had a wonderful time together. Service was excellent and it was formal--liked linen tablecloths and the service was excellent. Perfect for special occasions. First time there--will definitely return. Only 1 of us 5 had been there before. We all enjoyed it. Atmosphere excellent. Ran into cousin there and also very old friends hadn't seen in awhile. Thank you so very much!!!!
We took another couple for dinner. Everything was wonderful. I had the beef tenderloin medallions and shrimp. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. A good time had by all.
The salt shaker was empty (it was filled upon request), but I should have too ask. It should be filled by the staff prior to opening. The garlic mashers were dry and tasteless (it was promptly taken care of by the waiter), however the replacement was not much better. We didn't say anything, it was not worth it. My boneless rib eye, though half was cooked as requested, was still tough. I didn't complain. I ate 1/3 and took the rest home to my pet. I am not convinced that this place used PRIME beef. I have had PRIME beef at Flemmmings and Ruth Chris, and this restaurant falls way short. This trip was paid for by a gift certificate from them after a 2015 Valentines dinner fell way short of expectations. They didn't fair much better this time either. This was my third trip to Schlesinger's in 4 years and each time the experience is far less than stellar. I will not recommend to my friends and I will not be returning. Perhaps residents in Newport News, VA think this place is great, but it is not, far from it. Lastly, there was a party/business meeting in the Kennedy room. Rude people, loud, and unnecessary for an evening dinner period at 6:30p, March 20, 2018, (leave the business meeting to Lunch).
This restaurant is a real treat! The food and the service are excellent. I have tried several things on the menu and they are all wonderful. Best crab cake I've had; the Mahi is delicious; the chicken is great, and so is the beef! Hands-down my favorite Newport News restaurant.
Great food and service.
Used a birthday gift card for four of us for Sunday brunch buffet with reservation at 11:15am. We were seated at a table in side room where we could hear the guitarist but it was background instead of overwhelming. Kristen was a terrific server and kept our drinks filled and plates removed from table. Food was delicious and varied - the four of us had only praise for every dish and dessert from the freshness of the cut fruit to the variety of cheeses, from the sliced ham and beef to the mixed salads and chicken parm. The desserts were especially delicious from the sliced chocolate cake and s'mores trifle to the individual fruit tarts and shot glass servings. They offer bloody mary's and mimosas for $4.95. Hubby and I went to the seafood buffet at the Williamsburg Lodge a few weeks ago and were disappointed by the food choices and especially the quality so it was so great to have a most wonderful buffet experience at a restaurant nearer to our home.
I would like to suggest that Schlesinger's consider wiping down their chairs (a few crumbs) , wiping down the silverware (water spots on 3 of the 4 settings) and making sure plates do not have oily fingerprints on them (nuff said). I mention because it was really a top notch experience except for these few niggles. We'll be back...
Very good dinner with friends. Highly recommended if you love steak.
Service was slow. We were seated in the private room and three tables came in after us and left before us. The lighting was so low we needed to use our cell phones to read the menu. Howvere, our steaks were perfection.
My son and I make this place a must for our birthday dinners. Outstanding service, and great food quality.
I love having dinner at this place. the food is always good the atmosphere is very nice. I have always had good service. I have no complaints just go and enjoy the atmosphere.
No complaints really. Excellent all the way around.
Excellent service and great food! A little pricey for a casual dining!
The wagyu ribeye, was perfect. Perfect sear on the outside, perfect medium rare. Acceptable price.
We often visit Schlesinger's for special occasions, dinner specials, and lunch. Their meatloaf lunch special is awesome! The service is always excellent and the food is delicious. This past Sunday, I ordered the crab cake dinner and my husband order the seafood trio dinner. We also ordered wine since you can get a bottle for half price on Sunday. We left raving about the great atmosphere, food, service, and attention to detail. Looking forward to our next visit.
Went here for essentially a date night. Have been here several times before and it never disappoints. Both meals were excellent. Started with an appetizer of fried oysters that we split and she had a salad. My steak, the bone-in 18 ounce ribeye, was cooked perfectly. My date had beef medallions with risotto. Both meals were complemented with red wine. I chose the Rhino Cabernet Sauvignon and she had a Malbec. For dessert, we split a raspberry sorbet. Service is always excellent. They stayed on top of everything. Enjoyable night overall. Recommended!
I've been pleased every time I've eaten here. Service is great; food is delicious and a good value.
I was there for my one year anniversary. The ambience was nice and when we were seated at our table there was a nice happy anniversary card on her table for us. My wife enjoyed her food but I didn’t particularly enjoy mine. I think our server was having an off night and I felt as if we weren’t a priority to him. My wife and I enjoyed each other‘s company more than I enjoyed the entire experience.
My wife's favorite so we always do her birthday dinner here or at OPUS-9, a sister restaurant.
We have been there many times for anniversaries and birthdays, but this was the first time for my birthday. We did the Brunch, as it was close to my birthday, and the food choices were very good.
Good value and excellent food , we’ll be back 3 course $30 is a food option for lite eater
Have been here several times and it is always good. Steaks are excellent. Lobster Risotto was the only thing that was a bit off. It was overcooked and chewy and had a bit of a strong fish-taste. But everything else was excellent as always
The food was a tad salty, but other than that, delicious!
This was my first time eating dinner, I have always eaten lunch and I have to say my steak was the best I have ever eaten.
It was a bit too pricy, and the fixed menu did not meet fully my expectation. The dessert was tasteless and dry (chocolate cake with cherry coolie sauce).
Charles was great waiter food was excellent! Great date night atmosphere.
Excellent food in a fine dining atmosphere. Service was excellent and the food was fantastic. The breads and honey butter were a great start. The french onion soup was tasty and rich. The filet mignon was extremely tender and perfectly cooked. The deserts were well crafted and a great finish to the meal. This was our 4th time here and we recommend it for any occasion.
The atmosphere at Schlesinger's is very well done: classy without feeling pretentious. The food is outstanding, although significantly overpriced. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous... and slow. I realize that the atmosphere and food are meant to be enjoyed without feeling rushed, but waiting several minutes at a time for our waiter to refill our beverages or take our dirty dishes went beyond "relaxed" into "annoying". I would definitely return, but only for a very special occasion, due to the cost, and hope that we had better luck with service.
Excellent service and delicious cuisine. Cozy, relaxing atmosphere.
Awesome service and the waitress was excellent. Steaks were cooked perfectly! We had a great time and will return very soon.
Schlessingers never disappoints. The service is wonderful and the food, always consistent, always really good! Steve was our server, and he was professional but friendly and knew the menu well.
The service was outstanding. Steve was attentive without being overbearing. The food was beyond compare. Delicious and leaving us wanting more! Well Done!
Very quaint and intimate! Service and food great as usual.
Good food, great service ( thank you, Vincent), and our group was seated in a comfortable, quiet area.
My fiancé and I were celebrating her birthday. We were there at 5:30 so the crowd had not arrived yet. We were surprised with restaurant week as we did not know they were participating this evening. That always helps lower the bill. We both ordered the beef medallions with shrimp, sausage soup and ice cream for dessert. We were served quickly and we didn't have to ask for anything. The meal was outstanding. The temperature of the food was just right and everything was cooked as ordered. I would recommend Schlesinger's for whatever your special evening is or just go for brunch after church.
This visit was outstanding . We were there for our anniversary and it was restaurant week . Their specials were very tempting . We settled for Flounder topped with lump crab over baby spinach . WE had a very nice night out .
Everything was amazing. Wayne was a great server! Will definitely come back when I’m back in town!
This was my first visit and first impressions are everything. From the hostess to the waitress to the manager asking if we were enjoying our meal, great from start to finish. I took my wife here for her birthday we had the Sunday brunch. The food was excellent probably one of the best buffets I have seen in a while with the exception of Captain Georges. The Jazz Guitarist was a nice touch. We will be back in March with a friend who is retiring, looking forward to it.
Disappointing evening due to poor service & mediocre entrees..we have always looked forward to our meals & time at Schlesingers over the years..unfortunately not this time
Great experience, I went to Schlesinger’s Chop House for my girlfriend’s birthday and our 4 month anniversary. We got seated in less than 10 mins at a nice booth facing a window. The bread was fantastic and the chips that also came with the bread was a huge hit! We both loved them. Our server Brittany, was very nice and polite. Great server overall. I just wished I wasn’t a broke college student so I could’ve tipped her more without going bankrupt haha. Table was nice and fancy, lighting was perfect. There was almost every table full today, but it didn’t even feel like it was that crowded at all. It felt very spaced out. We order 2 steaks, my girlfriend bought their 12oz filet mignon and I got their 24oz Porterhouse. Both were very good, but the filet mignon was AMAZING. I was able to try just a couple bites and I was in heaven. Cooked to perfection. Then for dessert we got their Creme brûlée and it was very great. Overall it cost $138 including tip, but my girlfriend was happy so it was definitely worth it. We will definitely be looking into going here another day (once one of us has the money to pay for it haha).
