Great food! Excellent service! Hands down the best steaks in Newport News!!
Great ambiance. Great waiter. Very accommodating to requests.
Mediocre food at exorbitant prices. Service was not unpleasant but also not sensitive. For these prices, you should come away raving about the experience. I am unimpressed and not a fan.
The food is cooked just the way you order it. The service is excellent. Love the background music.
We went there for our anniversary. The ambiance was great for a night out with a special someone. We both ordered steaks and they were outstanding. We both had drinks and a bottle of champagne so it got to be a bit pricey. The only disappointment of the night was their signature dessert. You can get the same thing from Domino's for half the price. I would defiantly go back again for a special occasion.
Service was professional and so friendly, food was fantastic. Only thing that bothered me was the large party going on in
My husband and I ate there for my birthday. Kelly was our server and she was fantastic; she was super knowledgeable and sooooo very nice! We split a steak because they were so large and it was really great; very flavorful and cooked just right. We tried the scallop appetizer which was cooked very nicely, slightly browned on the outside and not over cooked. We also enjoyed drinks with our meal. I had a couple of wines by the glass and my husband tried a couple of martinis and they were all great. Unfortunately the desserts were disappointing; we had high hopes for their signature desserts but the chocolate dessert was more sugar than chocolate and the bananas foster was bitter. We would definitely go again, but maybe have dessert someplace else.
Wonderful food, great service. One very tiny complaint: the music is just loud enough that one must speak over it to be heard. Instead of quiet conversation, everyone had to speak in raised voices. Still, the best place to eat in Newport News!
Moved to Port Warwick
Very nice the restaurant was well prepared
Was very pleased with food choices and enjoyed the atmosphere!
Love the brunch
While the food was excellent, our server wasn’t quite what I was expecting at a restaurant of this caliber and price point. It was also a pretty busy Saturday evening, so it was a bit noisy in the restaurant, but not loud enough to cause you to raise your voice. I highly recommend the banana foster cheesecake for dessert!
Awesome service for a special occasion. Great food made it all come together.
We were here for our anniversary and had tickets for a concert afterward - our table was waiting and our server Charles did a fine job caring for us through our whole meal... All went well from wines through desert and timing and preparation on everything was great! He did a fine job and we had a great visit..
Look forward as always to our next visit -

The food was excellent, but a mistake by the waitstaff left one of our party sitting without food the entire time the rest of the table ate. This happens, but there wasn’t a mention of it after the meal, nothing taken off the bill, etc. should’ve been handled better. Otherwise, place was great.
Schlessinger's never disappoints! The food is always good, great ambiance, the waiters/waitresses are very professional, warm and out to do their utmost to ensure a wonderful dining experience.
We always have a wonderful time when we dine at Schlesingers. The waiters are attentive and Brad is always hands on to make sure everything is perfect. The food never disappoints. Love their catch of the day selection at lunch. It is always unique and delicious. Highly recommend Schlesingers for special occasions or just a great place to meet friends and coworkers for lunch. The wine selection is superb! Thanks and keep up the good work.
Fantastic meal, quiet atmosphere, and fantastic service. We will be back.
My fIlet which was supposed to be medium came out over cooked. Second was slightly less cooked but still not medium. FIlet was just ok. Have had better at Longhorn at half the price. Wife’s “medium” filet was undercooked and was tough to cut. Many open tables on a Saturday night. Looked like others figured out that food was overpriced for what you get. We won’t be back because we were visiting from out of state. But if we were locals we still wouldn’t be back. Wait staff were attentive and very helpful.
I really enjoy the lamb here and the service is outstanding. Ask for Elijah for the best experience. He is always courteous, kind and very attentive to details.
Great Service and the food is always delicious. They bring a very nice basket of bread to enjoy while you wait for your meal. The bread is homemade and always hot. I had the crab cakes and my husband had the filet. We were there for our 41st anniversary - Schlesingers is our great to restaurant for special occasions.
Food was ok expecting a fantastic steak for the price was very disappointed. Only highlight was the excellent service.
The Sunday Brunch was most enjoyable. The service was great as usual.
Pricey but you get what you pay for! Awesome meal.
What a steak! Had to say that first. Everything was spectacular. Waiters were very impressive - and they were there to fill a water glass or whatever, great service. I’ll go back for SURE!
It has been about five years since visiting Schlesinger's and I forgot the reason we stopped going there. I was reminded Wednesday when our waiter also had a large party to deal with while other staff roamed about. Consequently, service was poor. We asked for bread four times before it arrive - cold and dried out. Thinking of the past, I ordered filet mignon rare; I received an extremely well-done chunk of meat in a shape resembling a mushroom. The dish of potatoes was cold.
Sunday Brunch was delicious. Loved the live soft guitar playing. Made it such a enjoyable and relaxing meal.
My husband and I went out for the first time in six months, after our son was born, to enjoy a date night. We made reservations and off we went not 100% what to expect. As we entered the building the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Soft music played in the background and the lights lowered to give a romantic feel. We were quickly seated in a booth facing a quiet side street. Our waiter, Charles, was very polite and ready to answer all of our questions. He was very attentive to our needs before we even realized we had them. We got two seafood entrees, the rock fish and the crab cakes. Both were amazing. The rock fish was served in a butter sauce and the crab cakes had no fillers. Just two lump cakes filled with crab meat and seasonings. It was outstanding. When we thought we could eat another bite our desserts came, the bananas foster cheesecake and the chocolate punctuation! Both were sinfully delicious and well worth the wait. Our date night was a success. Good food, wonderful service and a night with my husband sans babies.
Always appreciate the email for our anniversary, BOGO! I made sure I had a reservation because two years ago we just showed up (on a Wednesday) at 5:30 and they said they would not have a table until 8 so we had to go elsewhere! So, with the reservation, we ordered our meals (BOGO not good on the prime rib special for the evening....) and ordered the oysters on the half shell for a starter. The oysters were very small and a couple of mine were chopped up into three pieces so I am not sure why they were served that way. Also, the dipping sauce was like cucumber in vinegar and when she asked if we wanted hot sauce, I assumed tobacco, but it was more like buffalo wing sauce. Not great, which was disappointing. I understand it is customary for chop houses to ask you to cut into your steak, but it is awkward when they are standing around waiting for you to cut into the middle and flashing a light on it. Mine was overdone, even a bit charred on the outside, but I didn't want to send it back and wait forever for the meal. Usually, an anniversary gets a split of champagne to toast but none was offered this year. Disappointing but generally a good place for special celebrations....just not this year.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful evening and experience at Schlesinger’s. Our steaks were fantastic. Best steak I’ve ever had. Our waiter Elijah was very attentive, friendly and made our first time there very nice. We will definitely be coming back!
My wife's second favorite restaurant and it is nearby so we celebrate special occasions there.
I highly recommend it.
Each visit is excellent. One of the areas best dining choices.
The food and wine were utterly amazing!
The prime rib melts in your mouth!
Delicious food and great service
An amazing menu and meal for a great price - Sunday brunch to celebrate my Mother's 75th birthday. The only thing was when I confirmed the reservation over the telephone (I had made it online), I told them the reason for our visit. They said they would put a candle in one of the desserts and bring it to my Mom tableside. But when we arrived, no one seemed to know anything about my Mother's celebration. She never received the dessert with the candle which was a little disappointing.
We loved every second of our recent visit. From the minute you walk in there is no doubt, you are in for a treat. The food was excellent. Absolutely the best brunch available in the area. I give Schlesinger's Chop House my highest recommendation.
Food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. Great place for date night or a fun evening with friends. The food is always exceptional, and the service is attentive and friendly.
What an absolute gem of a find. Having visited great steakhouses around the country, I would rank Schlesinger's with the best of them. Great cuisine for each course; accompanied with superior drinks made for a great evening. Our server, Charles, was patient, gracious, and informative.
We can't wait to return.
