Schlesinger's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
I enjoyed this place. Elijah was a wonderful server and he took very good care of us. The food was amazing and cooked just right and the prices were reasonable given the type of establishment. We will definitely be back again. Call and make sure Elijah is there before you go!
We have eaten here before and loved it. It was for our 25th anniversary, invited my dad to come along, because my mom passed last month and we didn’t want him to be alone. My wife loves him and wanted him to experience this wonderful restaurant. We spent 300.00 and it was very disappointing. The only good thing I can say about it was the hostess that took our coats was wonderful. We stared with a cheese plate to share, and had to ask for plates as the waiter took the bread plates before the cheese came, and left no plates on the table. Than I asked for a more coffee and the waiter replied you drink all of that. I had to asked a 2nd time before I finally got my coffee. The entrées we’re under cooked so we had to send ours back and wait, while dad eat his. More drink issues getting refills, seemed like we were Annoying our waiter. Dad wasn’t impressed. Time for desert key lime pie my wife had was great, but the two orders of Cream Brulé were cold and did not have a crust on top, very bad. To top it all off I informed them that this was our 25th Anniversary and they did nothing. I don’t mind spending 300.00 for a experience, but red lobster did a better job on her birthday last year.
Wonderful elegant atmosphere for that special occasion. Food is outstanding and high quality - which you pay for, but prices are not excessive for the portion size. Not a place I would bring the kids, but love it for date night with the hubby. Nice location for a stroll after your meal and 5 minutes from City Center and Ferguson Theatre. Definitely one of my favorites!
Beautiful, elegant setting. Excellent service. My partner and I shared a large Caesar Salad which had the just the right amount of dressing without being overpowered with garlic. I had a special of black drum fish that had a chipotle/cinnamon rub in a roasted tomato sauce. My partner had the fried oysters. Both were prepared to perfection. A great petite Syrah accompanied the meal. It was all a bit expensive, but worth it for a special dining experience unlike any you will find in Newport News.
Always a Great meal!!! The food and the service are the best reasons to travel to Schlesinger's. I do not know how they train their servers to so consistently exceed expectations, but they always do. The crab cakes are spectacular and the Chicken Breast Milanese is my all-time favorite comfort food option. As they say, "it's all good."
It was our 50th wedding anniversary. We were treated like royalty. Victor, our waiter was very helpful with menu choices we made. This was our first visit so some explanation was needed. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. My wife had Schlesinger's special signature steak and I had the lobster tails. For starters we had shrimp cocktails which was a unique experience in eating. So spicy and tasty. We will definitely be returning to try some other menu item. What a great night.
We arrived and the hostess was so rude to us we ended up leaving the restaurant. She said the restaurant closed at 2:30 yet we had booked 2:30 reservations through Open Table. There were only two other tables with people yet she sat us by the kitchen. Then she preceded to yell loudly enough for the entire restaurant to hear as she told the people in the back, “Turn all your stuff back on. Guess you won’t be going home today. I’ll have to call the baby sitter...”. I have to tell you we were in town to visit our son at Fort Eustis for Thanksgiving and made reservations for that Friday. The restaurant looked nice but the lady was so rude we will never so back.
They are usually very consistent in excellent food and service. Friday night, 2 of the 3 steaks were not prepared to order- one had to be sent back. It took a long time to get that steak back out and it still was not really prepared correctly. The manager did comp desserts and was apologetic. Headed back for a business dinner this week, so hopefully this was a one time issue.
Schlesinger's is my VERY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!!! I absolutely LOVE THE FOOD THERE and the ambiance in this restaurant! The prime rib there is the best that I've ever tasted!!!!! Our family enjoys dining there in a group and for special events (like our birthdays!!) I would definitely recommend Schlesinger's to everyone. There's something on the menu everyone would enjoy, especially on the weekends!!!! 😀
This restaurant was absolutely phenomenal. Our waitress, Valerie, was absolutely amazing. I went here for my boyfriend’s birthday and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. From the customer service, to the food, it was a total experience. We live in Virginia Beach and it definitely was worth the drive. The manager came by several times to wish him a happy birthday and make sure we were happy with everything. I highly recommend this place. Words cannot express how special you made his day. Thank you guys so much, especially Valerie .
I have eaten at Schlesinger's on many occasions, but this was the first time for the Sunday Brunch. We were celebrating my wife's and one of her daughter's birthdays. The food and variety were terrific! In addition to fruit and breads, there was prime rib, omelets and waffle stations, eggs Schlesinger and desserts. A very pleasant dining experience.
The server was very attentive and handled a special request graciously --> serving a birthday cake requested by the daughter, which my wife had made and brought for the occasion.
We went there for our wedding anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised by their three-course prix fixe dinners, so we both had the lobster tail and steak. Everything was excellent, and the amount of food was just right. They gave us a split of champagne after dinner to mark our anniversary, which I thought was just the right touch.
