Schlesinger's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
They are usually very consistent in excellent food and service. Friday night, 2 of the 3 steaks were not prepared to order- one had to be sent back. It took a long time to get that steak back out and it still was not really prepared correctly. The manager did comp desserts and was apologetic. Headed back for a business dinner this week, so hopefully this was a one time issue.
Schlesinger's is my VERY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!!! I absolutely LOVE THE FOOD THERE and the ambiance in this restaurant! The prime rib there is the best that I've ever tasted!!!!! Our family enjoys dining there in a group and for special events (like our birthdays!!) I would definitely recommend Schlesinger's to everyone. There's something on the menu everyone would enjoy, especially on the weekends!!!! 😀
This restaurant was absolutely phenomenal. Our waitress, Valerie, was absolutely amazing. I went here for my boyfriend’s birthday and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. From the customer service, to the food, it was a total experience. We live in Virginia Beach and it definitely was worth the drive. The manager came by several times to wish him a happy birthday and make sure we were happy with everything. I highly recommend this place. Words cannot express how special you made his day. Thank you guys so much, especially Valerie .
I have eaten at Schlesinger's on many occasions, but this was the first time for the Sunday Brunch. We were celebrating my wife's and one of her daughter's birthdays. The food and variety were terrific! In addition to fruit and breads, there was prime rib, omelets and waffle stations, eggs Schlesinger and desserts. A very pleasant dining experience.
The server was very attentive and handled a special request graciously --> serving a birthday cake requested by the daughter, which my wife had made and brought for the occasion.
We went there for our wedding anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised by their three-course prix fixe dinners, so we both had the lobster tail and steak. Everything was excellent, and the amount of food was just right. They gave us a split of champagne after dinner to mark our anniversary, which I thought was just the right touch.
Schlesinger's has always try to maintain the appearance of a upscale, fine dining restaurant, and they can sometimes get close for dinner. However, in the case of brunch, they didn't quite stack up in terms of food quality in proportion to the price tag. For starters, it's a buffet, with a wide and sometimes perplexing choice of food for $26/ per person. No drinks included at all. Many of the choices seem disjointed for brunch and make you scratch your head as you're looking at them (steamed broccoli, a chocolate fountain, fudge, cheese tray with grapes, cheesecake bites, etc.). As for food quality, the only thing cooked to order was the omelet station, and the one I had was cooked well. Many of the things set up on the buffet seemed to be challenged to maintain temperature, and with the exception of the grits, were lukewarm at best. The bacon and sausage were cold, as were the potatoes. They had waffle irons there, but the waffles had already been cooked and were in a breadbasket. No one offered to cook any fresh ones, and they were cold as well. My wife tried the smoked salmon, and it wasn't good at all - had a spoiled taste. Our server was well intentioned and nice, but she seemed new and we had to wave her down for coffee and drink refills. My wife ordered a prosecco/champagne split and she was only brought the one glass, when there's usually close to two in an order of a split. She ordered a second and got the complete split. She was charged full price for both. Since the champagne was not very good quality, she asked them to add a splash of Chambord to her glass, but they put way too much in there. Probably for brunch, they don't have a bartender there who would know better. For two coffees, two champagnes, and two buffets, our bill before tip was $85. To be fair, we've had worst buffets, but at this price point, one would expect more out of Schlesinger's. We'd rather see less quantity and more focus on the quality.
My wife's steak was cooked perfectly and my seafood was excellent. Salads were fresh and tasty. Complimentary bread assortment was unique and very flavorful. Dessert was wonderful! Staff is very professional and friendly. High marks for service. I highly recommend!
We had an early Labor Day dinner. I had a glass of Chardonnay and my husband had a 50/50 martini made with Stoli and Tanqueray, we each had a salad. My caprese was delicious. He actually finished his and then finished mine. I had the steak frites and he had the seafood trio. Steak was great but I did not care for my frites. Hubby ate all of his and we both took home our leftover sides. My husband finished with coffee and cake. We had a BOGO so that saved a few dollars. All in all a great dinner. Would recommend this for people looking for a special date night.
The food was good, as always. The service was very disappointing. The waitress was not as attentive. It was 45 mins before we received our food. She disappeared and was not seen for a very long time. We asked for coffee, and that took forever as well. Our party arrived between 6 -630pm our food arrived 830. Not sure if the waitress was new??? She was polite, but the service was lacking.
We have gone to this restaurant for the last 12 years at least once a year. On this occasion the service was slow and required multiple reminders to just get a bottle of wine (40 minutes after being seated finally had wine). It was a Sunday night and not busy. The food was only "good" (both dishes were slightly over cooked...steak and lamb). Although they don't charge you (nor give you a discount) to send back a dish, a business with these prices shouldn't require a customer to send back a steak for not being cooked to perfection (medium rare...nothing crazy here...). There are lots of local restaurants in the Hampton Roads area that have done it right and serve fantastic food - this chain restaurant is losing our faith.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary after several recommendations from friends. This was our first time dining here. We went on a Sunday at 6pm and It wasn't very busy with just a few couples dining at the time. Our waitress took our drink orders and brought those back in a timely manner. There was a special for a three course dinner which included a salad/soup, choice of four entrees and a dessert. Which was a great deal with what we would pay otherwise. Our steaks were cooked just as we had ordered and everything came out fairly quick. I was disappointed in the small size of the appetizer salad, the same size as the bread plate, but the main entree portions were decent size. The steaks were tender but definitely lacked seasoning; I don't usually add salt or use sauces for a steak, if cooked right it really shouldn't need it and I found myself almost asking for A1 but decided otherwise. My husband got the potatoes Schlesinger and they were great, highly recommend--like a potatoes au gratin. Dessert was also a decent size although I found the pound cake for the strawberry shortcake a bit dry. Our waitress started off strong but by the end of our meal I had to almost wave her down for water refills. Overall it was a good meal, but had it not been a special price for the three course meal I wouldn't pay the full price. Recommend for a one time special occasional meal, but not sure we will come back.
This was our second trip to Schlesinger's Chop House and it was as good as the first time. The atmosphere is sophisticated but not pompous. It was a special occasion for us as was our first time there. We had made a reservation and were welcomed back and seated in minimum time. All of the staff were nice and very courteous. Service is excellent there. As it is a steakhouse we both ordered steaks, a side and one to share. We had drinks prior to the meal arriving and both the scotch and wine were generous portions. All aspects of the meal were fine and the meats properly prepared and tasted great. We finished with desserts and coffee for a wonderful meal. All in all we were very happy. We were given a complimentary little champagne bottle to share for our special day which was a nice touch. We would recommend Schlesinger's Chop House to anyone wanting a special meal in a more refined atmosphere. While a bit pricy we feel it's worth the expense for that special occasion.
Had not been here in some time and some friends wanted to do brunch and suggested a couple other establishments and then I recommended this place since I had never tried their Sunday brunch. A couple of things stood out most to me. One was our server Valarie who was extremely attentive and ensured our water glasses were never even half empty. She checked on us frequently but not so much as to be intrusive. She also kept an eye to remove plates from the table as we progressed through our meal and kept us supplied with fresh plates without being prompted. She advised us of the beverage specials and to our surprise the mimosas were HUGE and extremely good. The second thing was that management took the time to stop by our table and ask if everything was satisfactory and to thank us for choosing their establishment. The buffet had an extremely nice selection and I found the items choose to be delicious. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and so tender you really did not need a knife. Since this place is so close to my home I will definitely go for brunch again. The live jazz guitarist was also an extremely nice touch.
