Schafer's Ratings and Reviews
So we made reservations online and I requested a table outside when we got there we were told they don't take reservations outside...thanks for letting us know
We ordered drinks at the bar the bartender was great very nice and made great drinks
We then were seated and our waiter seemed like he knew what he was doing we even joked a bit
He takes our order I ordered Baked Clams and mu Husband clam chowder
They bring us 2 clam chowders and one wasn't warm so we told the waiter to cancel the Clams and we will just have the soup no big deal being the Clams never came
Dinner comes my husband ordered the NY strip and no thin onions on top and he asks the waiter about it he said oh itb
said it was on the menu ? My husband said yes and he was like oh the kitchen didn't do it earlier so I didn't realize
Know your menu! I've waitressed when I was in my twenties ! It's part of the job
Overall the food was EH and just how we were treated by the hostess and our waiter I doubt I would return for food
The waitress was very nice, professional and courteous. The food was unimpressive and took nearly an hour to come out. This is a touristy joint with flies and sticky tables. OK for late night grub after a night of drinking but not for lunch with the family.
My fiance and I came here for our 1-year engagement anniversary. We were hoping to dine on the rooftop, but unfortunately we had inclement weather. Other than that, we had a good experience. He ordered one of the fish sandwiches (I don't remember which because I'm not into seafood), which he liked. I ordered the herbed grilled chicken, which was delicious! The service was a little slow, and one of the managers had to help out, but I think it was because they were short staffed that night, which is not the waiter's fault. The drinks and food came out in a timely manner, and the staff was polite and friendly. We'd come back again!
The only good thing about this place is the view. The food was average at best. While I know we were a large group, the food came out 30 minutes after our appetizers, and then it came out in dribs and drabs. Although assured that the 1 remaining meal was coming, it arrived after everyone else at the table was finished!! The manager was very nice about it, but it was a disappointing experience.
We were a group of seven. We were celebrating my sons job promotion. I'm so happy we chose Schafers to do so everything was perfect ! The staff was very accommodating especially Dan the manager. He moved us to a table with a beautiful view of the harbor after we requested it. The service was great the food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. I would defiantly dine there again and highly recommend it.
We have been here before and it was awesome. Today, the service was horrible, the wait staff was rude, and the food wasn't great. We waited over half an hour for a waiter at lunchtime, and finally we had to go get one. We will not go back anytime soon. Would not recommend again.
Food was average at best. Service was terrible. Took approximately 2 hours to get entrees. Good drinks. Place is run by a bunch of young kids and they have no clue how to run a business. Baked clams were awful. Fried shrimp as well. My cous cous was not even cooked. The one shining light of the meal was that the scallops were very good. Other than that horrible service.
Horrible! Service was exceptionally slow. Our server was super nice, the restaurant happened to be inder staffed- not her fault. Multiple items on the menu were not available to order, as they ran out of clams, muscles and crab cakes. I ordered the steamed lobster. When I broke it open, there was a 1" thick red tissue inside. When I asked what it could be, the manager told me "you probably got a female" WHAT???? So gross. We will not be going back. Shame because the location is prime. Unfortunately, everyt else about the place leaves much to be desired
This was our second time at this restaurant. We had a great meal on our visit to Port Jeff last year. I received a generous coupon for a free dinner for my birthday and additional 10% off our bill so we made a special trip back to celebrate and was very happy once again with the food, service and ambiance. Thank you for my birthday gift!
Made a reservation, but that is only for inside and we decided to sit upstairs in the outdoor section. We were told it was going to be an additional 1/2 hour, even though there were tables available. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were great. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes, we left and went somewhere else for dinner. Hosting staff were terrible. Bartenders were accommodating.
Has to be the worst place I've ever If the place was crowded I could have understood the terrible service however it wasn't. The young waitress was so nice but totally untrained there was a manager on duty but didn't seem to care and we were told owner went home early
Not a good idea cocktails took about half hour for first try they ALL came back wrong. Sent them back waited again still not good. I had to actually get up and explain to bar tender how to mix this simple drink They could not even get the sparkling water correct.
Baked clams came to the table they forgot to bake them
Burger came to table forgot to melt the cheese I could just go on and on
We kept looking for a camera thinking they were filming us for a comedy show
We were told we would have to wait for our table to be set up (we did have a reservation), so we waited 15 minutes in the bar which was not crowded, but had dirty dishes, glasses, and food all over it. When we finally found a clean spot to have a drink, the bartender never once came over to take our drink order. A manager came over to ask how we were doing, ignored the dirty dishes and food all over the bar and became distracted before we could let him know we wanted to order a drink. Once we were seated and served, our skirt steaks were ordered medium rare and both orders were served well done and dry, the lettuce boats with chicken were served with 2 pieces of wilted lettuce the size of my thumb, with only chicken and no avocado, salsa, beans or corn... sent it back to the kitchen and it came back with greasy chicken, the avocado, etc. and 4 pieces of wilted lettuce. Our clams and oysters were never served. Our server tried his best, and comped us a drink. He was the only bright spot for the evening, and his efforts were greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody.
We didn't even eat here because we left after an hour of waiting. Knowing that Father's Day would be busy and we were a large group (9), I made a reservation almost a week in advance and for an early time (5pm). When we arrived for our reservation, we were told it would take 20-30 minutes to be seated. That was understandable, but when 20-30 minutes turned into 45, we asked when we would be seated and were told that they were squeezing us in because we were a large group. After another 15 minutes of waiting, we decided to leave. Had we been told the wait was an hour even with a reservation we might have ordered appetizers at the bar or decided to eat elsewere. Our group was very disappointed that we had to make alternate plans after waiting so long. It seemed like there was ablsolutely no point to making a reservation.
I enjoyed my meal and so did my guests I was a little taken back when I arrived and the hostess said she had no reservation with my name or time and showed me her reservations that ended at 3 pm I thought that was strange she was your typical millennial shrugged her shoulders and was snippy we were seated rather swiftly and were served by a very pleasant and professional young man I was lucky it wasnt busy this was Father's Day
I don't usually write reviews but I'm making an exception for this place.
I made a reservation (by app) just 30 mins ahead of time as they were the only place available on a Sat night in Port Jeff at the last minute (that should have been red flag!). We walked in 10 mins before the reservation and were told "it'll just be a few mins". "Perfect!" we thought. But we waited those 1 mins... and then another 20 with no communication. I don't mind waiting, and even actually expect to wait on a Saturday night. But when I walk in I expect to be told if you're running behind. That would have allowed us to order drinks and an appetizer at the bar instead of just standing around waiting for the table.
When we did get seated we waited 15-20 mins before anyone came to take even a drink order, and we only got that service then because I stared at a waiter until he looked up and saw me looking directly at him.
The food was mediocre to bad. Calamari was undercooked, a bit bland, and rubbery but otherwise inoffensive. But one of us took a bite of a fish taco and decided it was so unappetizing that it wasn't even worth eating; the waiter didn't check on the food and so didn't notice until others had finished eating and he was clearing plates. At that point he should have apologized and offered to take the meal off the bill but he didn't. We didn't ask him to simply paid for it because frankly it wasn't worth the bother and wait for a manager to deal with it.
Won't be back.
After reserving a table for 7 a month early, we arrived at Schafer's to be told we would need to wait a few minutes. Sitting at a table in the bar area, we waited 15 plus minutes and never even was offered a glass of water. We had just come from Stony Brook's graduation and had sat in the sun for almost 2 hours, temp. 92 degrees. Finally our table was ready and we walked into an empty, hot room. Again we waited and waited for 10 to 15 minutes with no one coming to serve us anything. I went to the bar to complain and eventually a waiter showed up and took drink orders. Over the next 90 min. we ask for the air conditioning to be put on three times, the music to be lowered three times, and again we waited. Eventually the music was lowered but it never got any cooler. I was told repeatedly they were short staffed. We at our food and left, the food was adequate. I had been told I would receive compensation for our dissatisfaction with a reduction of my bill, that never happened. I called to complain and a manager called back a day later and told me that a manager had been fired, so they were short staffed and the air conditioning in that room was broken. These problems should not have become my problems. My party was a flop and people who had flown in for this celebration left displeased and frustrated. I left angry!!!!! The managers solution to this disaster was telling me to send my son and his buddies in and he'd fix them up with a few drinks. I would recommend this place to my worst enemy.
