About Scarlet Oak Tavern
We are located on Hingham's historic Main Street in a 250-year old colonial house that has been thoroughly restored and updated by the award-winning Niemitz Design Group. Our cuisine, led by Executive Chef Stephen Sherman, centers around great steaks and the freshest seafood, although we also offer contemporary versions of classic American comfort food. Our philosophy is that good service is never intimidating service; and that honest, freshly-prepared food can often be more of a luxury than something you can't pronounce.

Scarlet Oak Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Had made advanced reservations and we were seated in lounge area. It was very warm and humid and also much louder than dining room. We were seated by window near hostess so there was also a lot of foot traffic to door and restrooms.
Never has happened at Scarlet Oaks before, so it was a disappointing, expensive evening. Scarlet Oaks is usually one of our very favorite places.
I had made reservation and asked for a table by the window. When hostess brought us to the table it was a tiny little table stuffed in the corner (but by the window). I asked if we could have another table and she turns around and tries to give us another tiny table against another wall. I said that table was not good either. I asked for the booth that was right there or the other table by the window, to that she said she just couldn't give us those tables, but that now she will have to put us in the pub area. She must of seen the look on my face because we ended up in the back room right by the emergency door. At least we were not going to be stuffed in a tiny table squished against a wall.
So we get past the fact we have a crappy table and our waitress appeared. She was a shinning light since we arrived. She was very nice, helpful, understood my GF needs. I had the GF potato encrusted fish and my husband had the rib eye. We both enjoyed our meal, drinks were great. We will absolutely return. Wish I had room for desert...
We love Scarlet Oak but it did not deliver this time when we brought visiting friends from Wisconsin for their first experience.
The server seemed disinterested and casual about my friends' seafood allergy-which proved crucial when the tomato app proved to be allergic.
The runner brought out two similar meals of haddock which she did not know which was which and she had to return to the kitchen. The meals were not hot when she returned. My friend's meal apparently was missing and was not served with ours but came out eight minutes later.
Our only poor experience of several but poor timing for our friends.
My wife and I have the same birthday. We always go out to dinner but this was my 50th birthday. I sent a note to that effect in my OpenTable reservation. Scarlet Oak Tavern used this note to make a great birthday night for both of us! Hostess wished us a Happy Birthday and the server, Becca, was great as well. She brought us each a class of champagne to start. We asked to used the Steak Add On scallop dish as an appetizer along with a Caesar salad and that was done with no problem. We both got steak and it was delicious. The desserts were decadent and came with a birthday candle on each one.
We've been here before and always liked it but they took it to another level all because I wrote that note on OpenTable. I would and do recommend it to everyone and anyone I know.
Had a terrific dinner with friends at the Scarlett Oak Tavern; our server was attentive and the food was delicious. I had the planked salmon with spinach and quinoa and it was presented well and the tastes blended very well. Although the parking lot was full, their valet service was quick and efficient. Good spot and we'll be back for sure!
The Scarlet Oak Tavern runs a 1st class operation from beginning to end. As soon as we arrived there was complimentary valet parking available. We were seated promptly and got a wonderful window table overlooking what we assumed were some of the restaurant's gardens. Our waitress was cheerful and seemed knowledgeable about the menu. After delivering drinks and a couple of salads that were ordered, there was almost an hour wait for the entrees to come out. When I went to inquire about the delay, our waitress attempted to hand me a bill, she must have confused us with another table who was waiting on their bill. When I reminded her we were waiting for our food, she apologized and said it would be right out. Subsequently one of the managers came over, apologized profusely for the delay and promised our entrees would arrive in 4 minutes. Naturally our concern was that they were sitting under a heat lamp in the kitchen but that was not the case. The food came out hot and cooked to the specifications we had indicated. Everything was excellent and all 4 of us in our party were quite pleased with our meals. The restaurant went out of their way to compensate us for the wait for our food by providing some consideration on the bill and providing complimentary after dinner drinks to the table. Overall, the restaurant could not have been more accommodating and despite the delays, we will definitely return. Like I said 1st class from beginning to end.
We go to Scarlett Oaks a LOT. We know the menu. Tonight we decided to do something different and order apps that we have never tried. We were NOT disappointed. We both got something from the Raw bar- the oysters were fresh and delicious. Then we split the crab cake and the short rib appetizer... amazing. The potato gnocchi that comes with the short ribs were like little pillows of deliciousness. We washed this down with the carrot cake.
Having been here a few times, we arrived early for our reservation and had a drink at the bar. Wasn't crazy busy yet, so we enjoyed our drink in relative quiet. At our reservation time, we went up to the hostess and were promptly seated at a window table - a plus. Our food was delicious and our waitress prompt and pleasant. A great place to go every now and then.
We came to have dinner with my Dad on Father's Day weekend. Our server was great, super attentive and outgoing, without being obnoxious. There were four of us and we shared a dozen Duxbury oysters between us. We each had two drinks, shared the oysters, ordered our own entrees and had coffee and ice cream for desert, it came to $250 not including the tip. From my perspective $75 per person including tip was not too bad.
I was seated promptly at my reservation time while waiting for two friends. I ordered my wine and then my friends arrived. After they ordered their wines and bread was brought to the table, an attendant came to our table and explained that a husband had requested that table specifically for a dinner with his wife and would we mind moving. We said no and chose a quiet corner in the back. They brought us complimentary appetizers for our troubles and were not rushed at all for the remainder of our stay.
Excellent experience! Great service and great food! My husband and I went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The restaurant made a huge effort to make the dinner feel as special as possible. They even treated us to a champagne toast and dessert. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, or just a nice night out!
Jamie was very attentive. We go to Scarlet Oak often and many of the staff stop by the table to say Hi. Jamie had our usual drinks ready for us, always made sure my water glass was refilled. The scallops are out of this world delicious. I had truffle fries and asparagus which was fresh and cooked to perfection. Hubby had tuna tartare which he loved. All in all, it was a wonderful evening.
Scarlet Oak Tavern is a very busy place, and with little wonder. The food is very good, the prices are reasonable (definitely not cheap, but not too pricey), and the service is great. Steak, seafood, pasta, everything here is delicious. They have an excellent wine list and a nice assortment of craft beers on tap. Perfect for celebrations and just plain old nights out.
