Great Roman classic dishes with accents of Tuscan fare.
Great meal as always! Scarlatto has become our go-to place when we are in town to we a show. Great ambiance and wonderful, non-rushed service.
Impeccable friendly service coupled with excellent food. Have been a repeat customer for many years.
The menu was varied and the specials were seasonal and delicious....watermelon salad!
The service was friendly and efficient.... I’ll be back!
We have been regular customers at Scarlatto for the past 5-10 years. This was our first visit since they relocated to west of 8th Avenue. The new venue is not as welcoming as the previous location, we regret that they have eliminated the pre-theater prix fixe option, and the food is not quite as good as before. Nevertheless, as a place to grab a bite before a show, it's still not a bad choice.
Everything was giod
The gnocchi is the best. We were in a hurry because our train into town was late. We managed to have a very quick dinner and made our show without rushing.
It was perfect
The service was excellent. Theere was a very small wait staff and they did a phenomenal job. The restaurant was quite warm and although the food was good, my husband became very ill within hours of our dinner. It could have been coincidence but ... given the temperature of the restaurant one tends to wonder.
It was very warm inside. No air conditioning. Uncomfortable for a warm day in NYC. We asked to lower the air, to no avail.
Great food. Good service. Nice ambiance.
Great red sauce restaurant, classic Italian dishes done right
I was at Scarlatto after Theatre ( about 11:00 p.m.) and found a charming and quiet ambience with a nice Service ; the food was delicious ( seafood risotto and one of my favorite italian dessert : tartufo) , with a good wine ( Prosseco) at a very reasonable price! It was my second time at this restaurant ( at another address, about two years ago) and it didn’t disappoited me ...as I love NYC and Broadway ‘s shows I’m sure that I’ll return !
With theatre tickets on a Friday evening and having forgotten to make a dinner reservation, I took what I could get. I did not think the fact that Scarlatto's had an available reservation for 6 pm was a good sign. The place was noisy, the food was edible, but not any better than that, but the reason I will never go back is the service. We got there at 6, as scheduled, and ordered by about ten after. So far ok. The salad (for me) and the (octopus) for my friend came readily. By 6:30 we were done and ready for the second course. Then the waiting began. At 6:35, the server told me, "It's coming right out." It wasn't. Over the next fifteen minutes, as I looked around I saw that at least a dozen diners around me were waiting to be served--either first course, or second. Finally at five to seven the entree came. It wasn't great, but it was edible, and at least it was hot. But whatever, I'm never going back.
Very nice interior. Food excellent. Service a little slow. Too hot in the restaurant...waiter was sweating too. Saw pretheatre meh l menu on website. They claimed it was old website and didn't have it anymore. Should remove old website then! Booked this place because of it.
Food fair they did not offer pre theater menu
We've eaten at the old Scarlotto's location and thought we'd give one, on Restaurant Row a chance. We were greeted quickly upon entering the restaurant 30 minutes early and, seeing very little bar room, we left for another place to have a drink before settling in for out pre-theater meal. We had carpaccio, two Osso Buco, a Bronzino and an eggplant parmigiana (appetizer size). For dessert a profiterole and an apple tart with coffee and cappuccino.
I am thinking that the cost of rent must be very high here since more people were packed into this space than in the old one. I don't mind the number of people as much as the back of my chair being hit when people had to squeeze by. Also, they really needed an additional bathroom or at least additional stalls. The kitchen did very well keeping up with the rush and the wait staff worked very hard in these crowded conditions.
The food was bot as good as it has been in the past
Great services, quiet atmosphere and very good food. Saturday pre show and had small crowd.
Lasagna salty. Chicken parmigiana dry
Average pre theater
good pre theater
We really enjoyed this restaurant before the theater. We were 2 adults and 2 children and the staff was very attentive and helpful with the children's meals and drinks. The food was excellent, I would definitely go back. It is also an easy walk to all the theaters.
Great food and wonderful service
The food at Scarlatto is absolutely delicious!! Every dish is more appetizing than the other!
Be sure to order the chicken parmegian: It is so light even though it tastes absolutely divine.
Unfortunately Scarlatto is a vey noisy restaurant, especially pre-theater time and you might need to shout sometimes to be heard acros the table but the food is so worth it!
We will definitely be back for more :))
Branzino was delicious. We also had the grilled octopus with chick peas which was delicious.
Amazing as always! I make time to visit each time I am in New York City!!! Recommended for everyone! Great atmosphere and delicious food.
Lovely ambiance! Good food and great service! Perfect for pre-theater dinner😀👍
Perfect location in theater district, good food and good service
Food and service were very good; but new location seems to require the use of smaller tables. The tables for two give barely enough room for one person to dine comfortably. A shame, for this had long been one of my "go to" theater district spots for great Italian food.
My girlfriend and I often eat here... great food, large portions and reasonable!
All of the food was quite delicious and perfectly prepared and presented. Our waiter was terrific. The only problem was the noise level.
They had our reservation and brought us to a small table. We ask if we could sit at a larger table by the wall. No it’s reserved for a larger group. Later a group of 3 came in and were directed to a small table like ours. The men complaining, we were 3 women, they were directed to the larger table. We told the host who said the people cancelled. Strange.
We have had lunch/dinner before theater on several occasions. The location is great. The most important thing to us is consistency! The food is always very good. The service is always excellent. We like the small cafe atmosphere. We will continue to dine there!
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary by attending a musical on Broadway. We wanted to find a nice place for dinner before the show. Scarlatto happened to be near the theater, and we were able to reserve a table at the time we needed. We were greeted with a smile and while waiting for our table had a pleasant conversation about how the dishes being served reminded us of recent trip to Italy. The menu was extensive, creative and authentic, the server helpful and informed, and we were right on time for our show without ever feeling hurried. We hope to return.
great Italian food, and a great choice for pre-theatet dinner.
Didn’t realize that the restaurant had changed locations, so I had great difficulty finding new location, until I looked up actual new address, just kept walking up 46th Street to find it.
I go to the theater 2-3 times a month and I'm always looking for a new place for dinner in the theater district but this will not get a return visit from me. As soon as I walked in I was hit by the loud noise level. It was difficult to have a conversation and hear what my companion was saying. Even worse was the service. Twice we asked for extra plates because we were sharing our appetizer. They never came. We wound up taking the bread plates off the table next to us. Then our entrees didn't show up. When we asked them to check on our order, we got the check, not the order. By the time we got the order, I didn't have time to finish mine and had to take it home. Also, twice my companion asked for lemon for her seafood. It never came. It's a shame that the service and noise level were so bad because the food was good and the portions plentiful. But when I have to make a curtain time, I don't want to have to worry that the service at the restaurant is going to make me late.
Good food but TOO noisy! And only half full. Pre-theatre lunch--last one there.
Nice place to eat before the theater, the Striped Bass Special was second to none and the Chicken Parm was delicious also. The desserts were only so-so, avoid the Molten Chocolate Cake (NO MOLTEN) and dry as dirt. Paper on top of the tablecloth was a bit tacky.
I miss the old location on 47th Street, which was one of my favorite pre-theatre destinations. While the food remains very good, the new location on Restaurant Row is much more crowded and therefore noisier. I think that service has also suffered in the tighter quarters.
Friendly service and great food. I'll be back again!
