I felt that the creativity in the dessert that I had was greater than the main course which I had. The main course was very good, but the level of presentation and complexity of the dessert was higher. I believe that when I was last at Scaramouche the complexity of the main course was greater and "more special" in what was provided. As a person who really, really appreciates this I was therefore a little disappointed. We have high regard for Scaramouche and trust that you maintain the wonderful standards of high cuisine that we associated with your restaurant.
Wonderful restaurant! Worth every penny. Staff, service and food could not be faulted.
Skirmish lived up to its reputation of being a source of exquisite food that is carefully prepared and presented to create and satisfy your appetite as well as your pallet. My wife and I started with the oysters from Ireland, followed by Irish Salmon for her and Venison for myself, all cooked perfectly with a generous complement of vegetables. In the desert was Apple Cake - an interesting and delicious version.
The view is astounding, especially at night when you can see all the lights. The service was spot on and our winter was always unobtrusive until we needed him. He was also very knowledgeable about the fare. There was a surprise at the end of the night, as the chef had somehow discovered that it was our anniversary and had written in beautiful script "Happy Anniversary" on our dessert platter. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
Great restaurant! Never disappointing. Food is wonderful....
It was wonderful, as always.
This was my first visit to the fabled Scaramouche, and it did not disappoint! From the complimentary valet parking on arrival to the personal greeting at the end of the meal, this was a perfect place to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday.
The location is unusual - effectively the basement of an apartment building. What you do not realize on arrival is that the apartment building is built on the side of a hill, so the restaurant has fantastic view over midtown and downtown Toronto.
The vibe is classy and understated, attracting a wide span of ages and pleasantly free of the braying Bay Street crowd that plagues so many of Toronto's high end restaurants. The place has a buzz - but it is focused on real conversation and the food!
The food is, quite simply, fantastic. I started with the octopus special appetizer (perfectly marinated and grilled) followed by the venison (pictured below) and concluded with a (shared) dish of Scaramouche's legendary coconut cream pie. My companions waxed lyrical about their filet mignon and the seafood "stew". All of us were impressed by two things - the intrinsic quality of the ingredients; and the unusual combination of flavors. The "amuse bouche" offered before the main course was a perfect demonstration of this - a delicate smoked salmon paired with tartare and a couple of other ingredients that I forget.
All in all, a fabulous experience.
We have spent our anniversaries here for the past 20+ years and have never been disappointed. A truly consistent and wonderful experience.
We had dinner with a friend from out of town to celebrate a promotion. My husband's dish was not cooked to his liking, the waitress apologized and instantly the dish was removed from the table and corrected and was exactly to his liking. The 3 of us had the coconut cream pie - it was a mile high and to die for!! That alone was worth the drive. It is also great to have complimentary valet parking, makes getting to dinner so much easier.
Excellent restaurant. The food was outstanding and the service (by Joel) was exceptional! My wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the pork dish. Both were perfect.
...and folks weren’t lying about the Coconut Cream Pie. Violated my diet.,.but worth it!!!
Great for food and for the night skyline view of Montreal. Book well in advance a table close to the window.
We dined with friends who were visiting from Australia and, as usual, our dining experience at Scaramouche did not disappoint. Food and presentation was excellent, service was wonderful and the venue was lovely. Scaramouche offers such an incredible night time view of downtown Toronto. It was the perfect venue to host our friends. And, we had to finish our lovely evening by sharing a delicious slice of coconut cream pie!
Staff was wonderful and food was great
Best restaurant we have visited in Toronto - so far !
It’s been almost 19years now and we can’t find anything close to the the Taste flavour experience ! The best in Toronto for sure.
Fantastic as always! You can't go wrong with this classic restaurant.
Excellent overall. Meal, ambiance, service and everything else.
Excellent restaurant, great food and remarkable service. A special thank you to Andrew for making our evening a memorable one.
Great food with excellent presentation. Waiter was efficient and knowledgeable. Elevator was confusing, surprised that restaurant was located in a retirement community. The wine list was good with reasonable pricing.
This is our all-time favourite spot. We are never disappointed.
This restaurant came highly recommended. We were told that apart from wonderful food the view of Toronto is amazing. We booked the restaurant section for a special outing to celebrate our anniversary, and noted that on our reservation through OpenTable. Arriving a little early we offered to wait until our reservation time in the bar, but were shown to a table instead. The table was off to the side with no real view (at least one we could both enjoy); very disappointing. The food was great, the service amazing, and the complimentary valet parking appreciated. The only reason for the less than perfect rating is the location of the table. I understand they cannot guarantee a table with a view, but there did not seem to be much effort to attempt to honor our request.
We have been to Scaramouche before and this time we celebrated our 30th anniversary. The service level and attention to detail were impressive. We would recommend Scaramouche to our friends and we will definitely return.
Excellent food quality and decent view in particular if you go there around sunset time. Please get a table close to the window to enjoy the drink with the beautiful sky. I did not drive as I am a tourist. I took subway to Summerhill station and walk there for around 10-15 mins. After meal, the receptionist can reserve taxi for you. Please don’t skip the dessert and the coconut and whites chocolate cake is a must try.
We ordered the Hamachi Tartar which was delicious! However, the main dish - Seafood with Lobster tasted just okay as the lobster tail seemed to be a little bit over-cooked in my opinion. Our server recommended their signature dessert - coconut pie, we tried but we really cannot see anything special about it. We also ordered the chocolate expresso dessert and we all think we should just skip the dessert. Overall, I think the restaurant is over-rated. Their services and ambiance are good but I won’t recommend to come here for special occasion.
It was our wedding anniversary, but my wife had a lot else on her mind. Andrew, our server was exceptional, describing in detail the "specials", which turned out to be as good as advertised. All in all a great experience which helped my wife forget her worries about her son's health for a while.
The food is amazing!! Some options do not have too much food, but the flavour is absolutely fantastic! There was a couple of ladies next to us saying that was their favourite restaurant in Toronto and that they go spend some time together every couple of months. I agree this is one of the best restaurants in town!
Continues to be the best restaurant in Toronto. My favourite place for over 20 years. Consistently exquisite, with best staff and service in the city as well.
Great food and service was perfect
My husband and I celebrated our birthdays one day apart recently. We try to do something special and our dining experience at Scaramouche was as spectacular as the view! Actually, it was the best food and service we have ever had in Toronto! I am excited to return soon and to highly recommend Scaramouche to my friends.
Most of the courses were very well done and the cookery on the proteins was spot on! We had a lovely evening.
We celebrated my birthday at Scaramouche recently and found that the old bandit could still charm the taste buds. This mid-town institution has stood the test of time. More time than we had thought. Our personable but unobtrusive waiter told us that they'd been serving carefully prepared food there for 38 years. In the famously ephemeral resto business, this says something itself.
What really did the talking though was the food. Venison perfectly rare with bacon fused to it like it had been part of the animal. Lamb chops pink and tender, set off by eggplant puree and perfectly prepared fresh produce. We enjoyed our entrees and then luxuriated in the view. Everybody knows about the view. Everybody also knows that "it's just Toronto", but as sat
Fantastic service. Our waiter wasn’t passionate about the menu and made our overall experience fantastic. Great food, great ambience. Highly recommended.
We were celebrating our 1st year anniversary and wanted to go somewhere special. This place is the spot for just that. The experience from beginning to end was amazing from friendly staff, delicious foods and beautiful scenery. I would recommend this to anyone look for a romantic place to bring there siginificant other.
This is my third birthday we spent together in GTA .
Food and service are fantastic as always.
Lamb is so tasty, I didn’t disappointed.
This was the first time I found the food less than fabulous. It was very good and the service, very good, as usual. The staff who clear your plates are a little too attentive, if anything, but that's my personal feeling.
Stunning experience, delicious food. Great environment and awesome customer service
Fabulous restaurant for a special occasion. Great view and terrific food. Our server was kind and funny. The halibut was so delicious and coconut cream pie is to die for! I highly recommend this place!
overall a good way to spend a Saturday night ..very well prepared food and good service
Really great place! Its also very reasonably priced. Service is not over done or intrusive its just perfect. Food was also very good, recommend the lamb!
We celebrated my retirement and my daughters birthday. The service was very good. The food was outstanding. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the scenic view of the town.
Would recommend my friends with no hesitation. The deserts were great. The wine our waiter recommended was very nice.
We did had problems with finding parking. Restaurant website did not make any recommendations on where we can find parking.
We had to park 3 blocks away from the restaurant. We were lucky the evening was perfect for walking and we enjoyed the walk.
My second time dining at Scaramouche and I was not disappointed. If anything, their coconut cream pie was better than I remembered!
