Scampo at The Liberty Hotel Ratings and Reviews
I was really looking forward to going here for a special occasion with a family member. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was exceptional, especially Brian. They do this thing where they start by coming over to the table with the bread sticks on a plate, and then dump them onto the table, onto the tablecloth. Kind of weird. The green sauce is on a large plate and with 4 people sharing it? The appetizers were good, but not great. I ordered the steak. For 48 Dollars, I didn't expect it to be sliced up like deli meat. Very disappointed. I have to say, the pork chop was amazing, and with the side dishes they served with it, made it the hit of the night. I would be hard pressed to recommend Scampo to anyone. There are so many amazing restaurants in Boston to choose from, and at this price you should leave feeling good about your meal. And for Gods sake, don't start off the meal by having someone walk over, and throw bread sticks all over your table.
My favorite place lunch in Boston when I'm in the city. The quality of the ingredients and the amazing flavors of the food make every meal a culinary delight. I particularly like the fish dishes. Along with great service, an excellent selection of wines by the glass, and a comfortable, quiet ambiance , they all combine to make Scampo an outstanding experience.
I've been a few times and now can't say I'll be going back. Service was horrible. We had 8pm reservations and were not seated until about 8.30. Many other people seemed to be walking in off the street and sitting. The manager tried to accommodate with a starter but nothing got better after that. Our waiter didn't truly know the menu. After salads and drinks--our meal was so delayed we didn't actually eat until 10.30! It seemed a few people in our section were in similar situations. Its the holiday season--the restaurant should be more prepared with better qualified staff on a Saturday night.
There was way too much staff and it got very confusing. 10 people must have come up to us and I felt like we were constantly being bothered. When it came to split the bill at the end, of course, someone came up and took both our credit cards so my fiance and I could split the bill. But then only my card was charged because some other staff took my fiance's and did not connect the dots. It was very annoying. Food is overpriced and it was so dark and loud.
Our waiter was very kind and attentive. But we went on Sunday at 2pm and the only available menu was brunch, and the offerings were limited. A better selection would have been nice. Also, in spite of the dining room being mostly empty, we were sat right next to the register, and one waiter was training another waiter, and our Entire meal was over shadowed by how to ring this and that up. I wish I had said something. But the restaurant was nice, the decor good, the waiter very good. Just the menu and our seating were disappointing.
Food is always delicious. The noise level at dinner was so loud we couldn’t hear each. This has been our experience several times. We will not go back for dinner. We enjoy sitting at the bar around 5pm when it’s quiet. Staff was attentive to the gluten free guest we had with us and brought him a sorbet on the house for his birthday. Classy place except the noise level which is due to the walls and high ceiling which can’t be fixed. Go early before the crowds arrive.
The food was well seasoned and very tasty. I had the beet risotto with lobster, whuch I would definitely order again, though a larger piece of lobstee would have been appreciated. My companion had the lobster pizza which he insisted I taste. It was astoundingly flavorful, it was a symphony of flavor set forth on a palette of pizza dough. A novel meal idea that was executed beautifully and tasted delightful. Our server was thoughtful, attentive and exceptional.
The only thing I did NOT like was that the breadsticks were shuttled off the platter and onto the tablecloth - neither sanitary nor appetizing. I tasted the one breadstick that didn't touch the tablecloth and it was rather tasty. If the idea is to save space as the bread sticks are rather long, perhapa they coulf be placed in a tall vase-like container. If it's just a novel way to present them, it should be stopped, as placing them directly onto the tablecloth irrevocably negates their appeal.
Given that it is a hotel restaurant and priced as such, I expected more from Scampo. The restaurant smelled like fish during the whole meal. Additionally, the seats are dirty and need to be reupholstered. Overall, the ambience was lacking and the food did not do enough to soften the blow.
Went for Thanksgiving- it was very busy, but they handled the crowd beautifully. We were not rushed at all, the service was attentive as usual. Our only complaint was that the opening greens dish and the soup were a bit bland tasting. The rest of the traditional turkey dinner was delicious. The cranberry sauce and gravy were especially wonderful as was the pumpkin roulade for dessert. Scampo’s serves the tastiest decaf coffee I’ve ever had. Excellent restaurant.
Had a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner at Scampo! The roasted oyster mushroom soup was amazing! A couple of us had the traditional turkey dinner, which was excellent, especially the extra savory gravy and anadama suffing. Others ventured into less traditional TG options, such as roast duck and veal porterhouse. Portions were generous enough to feel like a feast. A very memorable holiday meal!
We were there for Thanksgiving Dinner. What we liked: the Mushroom Soup, the Scallop appetizer, the Pork Chop, the Short Rib, The Chilean Sea Bass. The pumpkin dessert, the pecan dessert.
What we did not like. The vegetarian options were way to limited. Prior to the event the menu showed the availability of pizza. When we were handed the menu there were no pizzas. Also our table was located under a vent and cold air was blowing on us for most of the meal. We asked to have this corrected but it took way to long for that to happen.
Everything was lovely. Our server was excellent. Some of the courses were rushed to the table, which is a pet peeve - one member of our party hadn’t finished the salad and our appetizers were there, including hers, so she had two huge plates in front of her. Awkward, and easily avoided.
Thanksgiving dinner at Scampo included a traditional turkey dinner as well as other items for those who are not turkey lovers. The biscuits with molasses butter were a tasty way to start our meal. In our group we had a traditional thanksgiving dinner, a veal porterhouse chop (yummy gnocchi accompanying the chop) and the buratta mache salad. The dark chocolate truffle tart was intensely chocolate and delicious. The pecan brown sugar cake was also a good desert choice. We enjoyed our thanksgiving treat in the beautiful space - we will be back.
Scampo is dependably good and is very accessible due to its excellent location, so l have dined there many times and always enjoyed it. My recent visit 2 days ago was a bit sub-par for this otherwise excellent establishment. A diner had the pork chop and it was enough for 3 people. II wish the server had informed us of the size of the appetizers as we could have done with 50% less. The white cheese/fig/truffle pizza was excellent, as always, and is reason enough to return. It is expensive, but typical of a Boston restaurant. II will definitely return.
I had the short ribs which were mostly fat - I was very disappointed, especially considering it was the most expensive entree on the menu. The service was good although the waitress kept trying to get us to order more food. Overall, it was not a good experience - I was very disappointed.
My fiancé and I thought that the food was great. The portions could have been better to reflect the price for the meal. Drink we’re great. The only other negative was the service seemed to be a bit of a rush as in they want to get us out to clear off the table for new customers
This was a perfect place for my wife and I to celebrate our 5th anniversary. The atmosphere was great. The service was attentive and knowledgeable and definitely enhanced our experience. The food was incredible as well. The appetizers and entrees were both great, we licked all plates clean. Our server also brought out a couple desserts for us since he knew it was our anniversary.
We had a 5:30! Reservation with out two very well behaved mellow and adorable girls age 12 and 10 and they still stuffed us in the back and wouldn’t accommodate a move. So weird as the last time we were there a tear sho Lydia took them on a kitchen tour. The lack of friendliness this time was very evident and not enough choices on menu-
We were really wowed by the Liberty Hotel altogether and had a wonderful lunch at Scampo. The dining area is such a pleasant, spacious and comfy spot with lots of light and a view of the outside patio. As there were fewer vegetarian choices on the menu outside of pasta, our server was very accommodating, suggesting they could create a special vegetarian salad for my friend who was celebrating a birthday. The food was quite good and reasonably priced. We felt well taken care of and look forward to coming again and telling all our friends as well!
Menu choices were great but the overall dining experience was mediocre.
Restaurant lighting was poor. Noise level made talking through dinner nearly impossible.
Food prep and delivery less than expected
I’ve had lunch here before and it was great.
I may try it again but not right away
This was not the first time we ate at Scampos but we were extremely disappointed in the whole experience. We were a party of 6 and they placed us to the left of the kitchen. After we had ordered, a large group gathered just beyond our table with just a low folding wall separating us. It turned out to be a very loud group to the point that we could not talk to each other over the noise. We complained to our waiter right away but he said they would quiet down. Unfortunately, they only got louder. By the time we were ready to pay our bill, the group was out of control. The manager who we requested to see apologized and said if she was aware sooner she would have moved us. She removed our appetizers from the bill. I have to ask though, how does a manager not circulate in the restaurant and noticed such a disruption during the night and why was a large party booked when it could not be contained in an enclosed room. Clearly there was no concern for other patrons in the restaurant and they only seemed to see dollar signs from the large group. Probably won't be going back anytime soon.
The food and drinks were amazing. Was very happy with the brunch menu. The suckling pig ravioli with exotic mushrooms was delicious. Loved the ambience and decor of the restaurant. Wasn't impressed with the tiramisu it lacked espresso taste that I wanted and was alittle watery.
Also, disappointed that my requests weren't fulfilled via booking opentable. I asked for a high top and also asked for a birthday dessert to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday both were not fulfilled.
Overall, would definitely go back to dine at Scampo.
Started badly when they sat us in the dark and we have been several times before but this was dreadful. Food wasn’t at all close to their standard and the service was mediocre and rushed. We ordered two things that never appeared. One side order and coffee at the end of the meal although they did manage to put the coffee on the bill even if it didn’t quite make it to the table. It’s a shame it used to be one of our favorite local places.
We were so happy with our evening at Scampo. We were planning to sit at a table but found 3 great seats at the bar while waiting for our table and decided to dine at the bar. Our bartender was wonderful, fun and took such good care of us- even shared some cookies with us at the end of our meal! All our food was so tasty, from the lobster pizza, mozzarella and prosciutto, spaghetti alle vongole, the cod, seasonal ravioli. We always leave here so happy we came!! We will be back soon! Thank you for having us!!
