Scampo at The Liberty Hotel
Conveniently located to MGH, TD Garden, The Liberty Hotel, Historic Beacon Hill and The North End and The West End of Boston. Lydia Shire, the James Beard award-winning chef and pioneer of Boston’s culinary scene is the Scampo Chef along with Executive Chef Simon Restrepo. She had opened her own restaurants, from the departed Biba, Pignoli, and Excelsior Chef Shire later took over the historic Locke-Ober, where once women weren’t allowed to eat in the downstairs dining room to Scampo, which debuted more than a decade ago in the Liberty Hotel.
A culinary destination created by legendary chef Lydia Shire and the Lyons Group. In Scampo, Shire’s reputation for defying tradition translates into Italian-inspired cuisine unrestrained by borders, drawing on flavors from the Mediterranean and Middle East.

Horrible cafeteria food don’t eat here period!
Food was excellent but service was a bit slow, despite there not being many diners.
Atmosphere was nice. Waiter was ok. We were a table of 6 and 4 of our dinners came out cold
Great food and environment
We we were seated next to the private party area which was loud with a crying baby for the duration of our dinner. My daughter and I both ordered dishes with lamb, however the lamb portion in the meal was very small, not worthy of the price of our entrees.
Waiter kept pulling his mask down to speak. Important to reinforce mask wearing.
Wonderful experience. Food was exceptional and so was the service!
We especially loved our server. Everything was wonderful.
Food was exceptional. I had the striped bass which was cooked perfectly and delicious. I also had the clam chowder which also delicious. I would highly r recommend.
Wonderful as always!
Fantastic! Outstanding food and drinks along with professional, courteous, kind waitstaff. A+
Brian was our server. He was attentive, he explained the menu so thoroughly, and he was personable. He was easy to talk to, personable, and every recommendation he had was spot-on! Brian is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exceptional service and food! Thank you
Nice atmosphere and great food
My duck dinner was very raw even after cooking it twice, it had no flavor or yummy taste.
Dover sole was delicious but way over priced. At best it was a $35 dish.
3 old friends enjoying a pre-Christmas dinner — food was exceptional, service great. We had such a good experience!!
I had three total failure courses. Lydia Shire would be embarrassed. Mushroom soup was gray, tasteless lumpy gravy like you’d buy at a grocery store. My swordfish, which I order 2/month in restaurants as a favorite, was smelly as if not fresh and when delivered with its accompanying sides had slid halfway off the plate—fully half of the plate was clearly once covered in food and now almost bare while the other half had food piled up spilling over the edge. Then the pecan cake for dessert was far too dense. Three of the six diners had good meals; two others’ experienced mixed success.
Threw out all three dinners/leftovers (more than half of each meal was saved for leftovers). Initially offered to make two of the three meals again to make it up to us... rather than the three meals. As if the three people at the dinner table who had saved meals for lunch tomorrow would somehow share each other's food at different apartments?
Then they instead counter-offered their own offer to give us no food and discount our bill by $40 ($250 total bill).
Overall it was a really simple thing that should have been done correctly the first time (pack up the leftovers when directly asked). And there was a really simple fix (just make new ones).
But they kept nickel and dime-ing us with the solution (we'll make 2 of 3) and then coming back with a less satisfactory solution (we'll give you no food at all, but instead refund you for one meal).
I was trying to be accommodating by agreeing to their initial offer of 2 instead of 3 meals. I get it; mistakes happen. But it wasn't a great experience paying $250 and feeling like the manager was trying to find a more and more advantageous (to the restaurant) solution.
We used to go there all the time with family and work. Seems like saving the cost of the meals to risk future business makes no sense... especially when you made the mistake in the first place.
Wonderful meal. Very difficult to hear though. Very loud
What a cool spot! Came in for a girls night out of 7. Restaurant was full. Menu was very unique, lots of great options. Food was fresh, delicious with lots of great flavor. Two complaints, waited over 10 minutes for our waiter to approach the table to take drink order, he was not attentive to us at all throughout the entire meal. When the check was placed down, there was a 20% gratuity added. . . we paid it, but felt it was definitely not warranted.
Always a treat at Scampo. Our server, Jill, made it extra special, with just the right mix of friendliness & attention.
Our first visit to Scamp for lunch. It was a wonderful experience from our arrival and greeting by the valet to a warm welcom as we entered Scampo. Our waiter was attentive and extremely pleasant. The food presentation was nicely done and tasted delicious. The restaurant decor was pretty. we will visit again!
Excellent food and service
Had a delicious meal at Scampo. Lobster pizza is very good. Had the brick chicken, while others with me had Bolognese and swordfish, all delicious. Scampo margarita was a great drink. Will be back.
The waiter was extremely helpfull in explaining the specials etc, He recommended the lobster ravioli and he was right on. It was light, lots of lobster and a delightful sauce. Two other members of the party had the haddock special and the Chilian sea bass. All were exceptional and 6 happy people left Scampo with definite plans to return another time.
The food and service were fantastic!!!
The food was outstanding. The venue was rather noisy which may be more related to the Holidays and the early hour that we went.
I was disappointed in the service. The staff delivered three of our four meals. After waiting for a few minutes, I was able to find someone to ask about our fourth meal, which was delivered after another four or so minutes, at which time most of our food had cooled off.
I suggest that if there is a delay in an order, communicate it to the party, and offer an apology when bringing the delayed meal.
I was disappointed.
Normally love coming here for the holidays, the ambiance is perfect for holiday get together. The food has always been great but frankly was not impressed. Found to be very so so. My bolognese was soupy and the price Was very $$ for so so food. Dining room was packed. Very loud.
It is our favorite restaurant in Boston. Duck fat fries. The best. Great pastas and a wonderful as atmosphere. Scampo makes me wAnt to move to Boston
Very enjoyable experience eating at Scampo. We had both lunch and dinner at Scampo on a Thursday in December Service was inpeccable, friendly staff from when you entered to when you left. Quality of the food was 10 star, presentation lovely, perfect temperature, length of time to receive food, and an appropriate wine list. We will be going again whenever we are in Boston.
Service and food was outstanding! Great ambiance as well
Great food and ambiance.
Very energizing and fun environment; lots of celebratory groups on a Saturday night! Interesting and abundant food.
Are at the bar and the 2 girls serving were spectacular. My glasses were never empty and service was impeccable. Food was good, mushroom bisque a tad under seasoned, garlic bread limp but the lamb dish was amazing. Spicy hot and perfect. I’d hand out and have drink with the bartenders any day and people watch from the bar. Fun night.
Lydia and her team have done it again!!! We had a fantastic evening last Friday night. Having worked with her in the mid 80's at the Bostonian Hotel, she hasn't lost a beat. What still amazes me is that her refined palate keeps getting more refined. The Lamb Sirloin, the Dover Sole, the Pork Chop and the Swordfish were all exquisite on their own yet so different and unique. Not only that but they were ALL cooked to perfection. That's hard to do day after day and year after year all the time. Yet Lydia makes it seem easy and effortless... which I know from experience that it is not.
Thanks again for another unforgettable meal!!!! Love You
The food was great. Service was fine. The noise level was more than "energetic," however. it was deafening. it was impossible to carry on a conversation. my dinner companions and I were constantly shouting "what?" at each other. it was not a relaxing meal; it was stressful. Food of Scampo's quality (and cost) deserves much better.
Great lobster pizza!
