Scampo at The Liberty Hotel
Conveniently located to MGH, TD Garden, The Liberty Hotel, Historic Beacon Hill and The North End and The West End of Boston. Lydia Shire, the James Beard award-winning chef and pioneer of Boston’s culinary scene is the Scampo Chef along with Executive Chef Simon Restrepo and Alex Pineda. She had opened her own restaurants, from the departed Biba, Pignoli, and Excelsior Chef Shire later took over the historic Locke-Ober, where once women weren’t allowed to eat in the downstairs dining room to Scampo, which debuted more than a decade ago in the Liberty Hotel.
A culinary destination created by legendary chef Lydia Shire and the Lyons Group. In Scampo, Shire’s reputation for defying tradition translates into Italian-inspired cuisine unrestrained by borders, drawing on flavors from the Mediterranean and Middle East.
Scampo translates to “escape” in Italian.

Everything was great — except the waiter was really off Sunday night - which is strange for this restaurant as we always have great service
We were in the city to see a show and came here for dinner before the show. Our only regret is that we wish we had more time to spend at the restaurant before we had to leave for our show. The Sunday night chicken Parm special was excellent. We will be back!
Service was extremely bad as we had to ask several times for someone to take our order, to take a drink order, to get those orders, to get salt and pepper, to take away the dirty plates etc. Our drinks arrived after we had finished eating. There was no checking in on us either. The food was good. Not much else to add.
I had never been to Scampo before for Brunch only previously for lunch and dinner. The menu is well thought out and the food was excellent the service however was poor. Orders were not taken properly or were missed entirely - so parts of the orders came out at different times. Requests for salt/pepper and hot sauce took took a while and food became cold. I saw a person from another table get up and go to a wait station to get a pepper mill. Additional orders for drinks/refills were so slow that we had already finished our food and had to cancel them. The restaurant was not busy with only 6 tables in use at the time. It appeared that they were using bussers as waiters that day who were not trained to wait on tables (reaching across diners to serve and remove plates, for example). The food made up for the poor service somewhat but the overall experience was a disappointment.
We have been going to brunch in valentines weekend for the past 5 years at Scampo. Great food great Bloody Marys and good atmosphere.
Amazing! We can’t wait to go again. Brought friends from out of town. They were very impressed!
We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner there. Haven’t been in a while and forgot how much we love the place. The prosciutto mozzarella was delicious as was the spaghetti app. Blanking on name. Lydia Shire was there and very nice, talking to all the patrons and thanking them and handing out roses. We will be back soon!
Great food and ambience and reasonably priced
Food and server were very good but proportions were smaller than expected.
Scampo never disappoints. My only suggestion for improvement was that we were told that we would be seated right at 5:00 for our 5:00 reservation. We had arrived early and were having a drink at the bar. We had expected that the host/maître d' would find us promptly at 5:00 in order to seat us. This did not happen and we had to approach the host/maître d' in order to be seated.
Amazing dinner and our waiter was so polite. I will continue to return to Scampo!
This was our second time there, and once again the overall service is not good. The food is great, but in general a little overpriced for the overall quality of the food + restaurant + service. The waiter for example accidentally poured someone`s wine over our pate (appetizer). He just said "I am sorry", removed it, cleaned everything up and that`s all. He did not even offered a replacement. Also it took ages for them to come back and pick up our cc for payment. I would only return there if have to (i.e. business dinner).
The hostess was unpleasant when we asked for a different table. Very sour and obviously unhappy with us. Failed at hospitality 101 and set a poor tone for our experience. Server never came back to check on us after entrees were dropped until we were almost finished and then we had to find her to get our check. I had very high expectations for great food and experience. Neither were met. Disappointing dining experience all around.
The place looked beautiful, most of the food was very flavorful but unfortunately the service was slow. We ordered a few plates to share amongst 4 of us, but the waiter failed to mention some of the platers we ordered were only 3 pieces, so we had to wait longer. The waiter was also wasn’t present at all, the entire time, and the place wasn’t even that busy. The complimentary bread and pesto dip was spectacular though!!
The food would be the reason to come back but the service was lacking. It was very loud in there and the waiter spoke so softly that we could not hear a word he was saying nor did he make any attempt to try.
Usually when you are in a loud place the waiters will come to you and or also bend down to hear what are asking. Not ours he stood in one spot and would not move unless to turn and leave. There are several places to eat in downtown Boston and when you go to a $$$$ restaurant you should expect good service.

Second time at Scampo and it was another home run! Our server was outstanding, the cocktails superb and food was absolutely delicious. We got a little confused with one of the menu items and spoke to our server about it. All of a sudden, the general manager shows up asking if we wanted to replace the meal. We didn't do that but appreciated the attention! As it turns out, the selection was delicious and this is a case where the mind creates a perception that is different from reality. In the end, a 5 star experience!

Service is excellent, food is delicious, and love the ambiance. Not loud, easy to carry on a conversation. It is our go to before a Celtics game!
Can't wait to go back! The pizza was incredible. The menu is imaginative but not too eclectic and there are so many choices. We all loved our meals. We went early on a Tuesday and they were doing a great business.

We had the lunch on the go so we could do the MFA and a movie after it was a fabulous pri fixe meal topped off with tiramisu and a sparkler candle for my birthday. Brian our waiter could not have been more charming or helpful.
I dined here with two girlfriends tonight. We got the Caesar salad and the Patrick’s Naan to start. The salad was delicious but the Naan was lackluster at best.
For dinner we got lobster risotto, spaghetti carbonara, and spaghetti bolognese- we didn’t care for them at all. The risotto was soupy and overly sweet, the bolognese tasted like chef boyardee and the carbonara was fine but by no means delicious.
We are staying at the hotel and really enjoying our stay but would absolutely not recommend or go back to this restaurant.
We planned this dinner for a month for our anniversary for Friday night 1/31 specifically for the roast sucking pig a delicious memory from my European childhood. I called in advance to make sure it would be on menu that night By 630pm when I ordered it we were told you had “run out” I looked at all the tables in the restaurant—it’s not that large—not one had in it the dish! Our meal was nice well executed but not memorable service was excellent. As we left I learned from the coat check girl (not our waitress) that we should have reserved it in advance - something not mentioned on the menu or your web site . Hope this helps someone else We don’t plan to come back! We have eaten in fine restaurants special occasions We come back to those that exceed our expectations not deflate them.

So overpriced and mediocre. Dessert was stale. Lunch not as described. Meager portions. Poor value. Nice waitress.
Nothing was terrible, but other than the *amazing* nan, nothing was particularly great either. In particular, the tomatoes with fresh moz were icy and winter-grocery-box bland and crystallized and the arugula served with it not terribly fresh. Noise level was extremely high, which some people like but I do not.
I wasn’t pleased with them serving us Caesar salad with anchovies on top (without asking if we ate seafood) and it didn’t mention it on the menu description. Also I got spaghetti cacio de Pepe and it did not taste like the original recipe.
This meal was a total treat. Lively place, delicious varied menu. And the chef was there and talked with us about her favorite dishes! All wonderful.
