Scampo at The Liberty Hotel
We always bring our out of town guests when they visit Boston and my husband and I dine alone often as well! The menu is fantastic and the staff and bartenders are always helpful and pleasant to be around.
Our favorites are the Lobster or Lamb Pizza, Patrick’s Naan Bread, any salad or meat entree and the pasta dishes are always perfectly cooked. Scampo is a gem and one of our go to favorites!
One of my favorite places but the food was not as uniformly good as usual. In particular, the veal marsala was not as tender as it should be. The veal was thick. The sauce was bland and there was literally one piece of mushroom on the whole plate. The spaghetti bolognese is made with pancetta. That should be made known as it was not a touch but a strong flavor and in my experience bolognese does not have a strong smoky flavor. Salads, pizzas, and dessert were all good. Service was warm and efficient. The atmosphere was delightful. I would go back, but someone needs to revisit the menu.
Although the setting was lovely, the food didn’t warrant the high prices. We found it disappointing and it was our last dinner in Boston.
The Grilled Lobster with risotto and purée sweet beautiful was delicious!
Great meal and service. Late lunch at 1:00pm on a rainy day so it was pretty calm. Not sure how it would be at night. I had gnocchi with pesto sauce and crispy sausage and it was tremendous! Rest of table enjoyed their meals!
I would return for dinner at Scampo. The food was excellent, the service prompt and courteous. It was a bit pricey but for a special occasion (my wife's birthday), it was well worth the expense. As the night wore on past 6:30 it began to get a somewhat noisy.
This is a really nice restaurant, and the hotel is amazing! Great place to come with friends when you are out of town. The hotel was an old jail, so the architecture is incredible. The food at Scampo was good, but not amazing. The salmon was done terribly, that we couldn't even eat it. The cocktails were also disappointing. They were amazing at the other bars at the Hotel itself, but then it went downhill quickly at the restaurant.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I would definitely recommend to visit the hotel bar, and grab food there. Save your money and go to the other restaurants and bars at the Liberty Hotel.
Always great! Even when Lydia isn’t there. The food is always perfect. The portions are generous and well plated. This is my can’t miss spot for all occasions.
This was my 6th visit and I finally realized how unhealthy and over the top bad scampo is Too much sauce. Too complicated plating. It’s so saucy and mixed up I feel the chef is probably 12 years old. One example. Cod with an odd sauce with gnocchi and tempura asparagus and sea weed
Totally disgusting mixture
We were so disappointed by today’s experience. After so many positive dinners with Scampo, we opted to celebrate Father’s Day for my husband and father here. My father had never been and heard us raving about it...and so...
We arrived, and immediately it felt like it was not going to be a smooth dining experience. There was a great deal of conferring on behalf of the attendants who suggested to us that we were one person shy of our booth request...and despite our earlier booking we were being shuffled a bit to accommodate. We explained we would likely need a high chair for our 3 year old if we were not being accommodate with our request, and without further ado were brought to table with no high chair where we again made the attendant aware of this need, while we stood waiting for about five minutes in the middle of service as we could not sit until we settled our daughter. The chair arrived with very large pieces of uneaten food visible even from a distance . After seeing this, I promptly requested it clean or asked for a different chair...we waited for another several minutes... finally, after no less than 5-7 minutes, and many fellow patrons’ nodding looks, we were able to sit. We sat for another 10-15 minutes before we ordered drinks and another 10 before they arrived. Upon arrival, we began discussing with another table, who like us, had been to Scampo before. They had started to provide feedback about their similarly poor experience, and unlike us were comped a majority of their meal. We continued to endeavor to try and make it work. What we discovered was prosciutto naan that tasted half of anchovy on the left side only. The bread was burnt, but arriving hungry meant we scrapped the charcoal (more than fired from the ovens) and ate what we could. Dinners arrived and sadly, my chicken parmigiana was missing a great deal of sauce. While our waiter was pleasant, he seemed largely overwhelmed and absent. I believe this will be our last visit...
Third time at Scampo. We had duck, lobster, scallops and a pasta dish which were some of the best ever. Our server was awesome and took care of us beautifully. We can’t wait to dine again. I don’t mind paying a little more for perfection.
Always outstanding and innovative
On vacation. Read it was very good Italian restaurant. Excellent. Great Sangria and seafood dishes. Will come back!
I have wanted to try Scampo for a few years now and glad we did. The atmosphere is fun and vibrant, the bar is busy...we arrived 15 minutes early for our 9pm reservation to have a drink at the bar first, it was very busy and not easy to get the bartenders attention which was disappointing, seemed to be a lot of people dining at the bar that took up a lot of her time. I find this in a lot of city bars now... would be nice to have a bartender available for quick drink orders.
By 9pm the restaurant had cleared out some and we had a choice of tables , the hostess was lovely and very accommodating, we chose a high top over from the bar.
Our appetizer was a meatball dish that they had forgotten the polenta it was suppose to be served on that the waiter realized and brought it in the side, was interesting but very small portion. We then had a Caesar salad that was good with a great dressing although the croutons were store bought looking and too many. I had the black pasta with lobster which was really good and different and my husband had the NY sirloin that was just ok. It was fanned out on the plate with not a lot of flavor , very little searing of the meat Morelos fashioned London broil in appearance, served with sweet potato purée and a fried potato cake . I Would rather have had a fresh green vegetable maybe with an interesting Chimmichuirri sauce for the meat. The Barbara red wine we had was great they have an extensive wine list. All in all it was a memorable night, the food was not as good as I had anticipated but the dining experience was special and the people watching at the end of the night was so fun. Clink in the main lobby of the Liberty hotel gets very lively, a great end of the evening to walk up stairs and get a drink although be prepared for a younger city nightclub vibe.... which we enjoyed.
We had a wonderful “date night”. This is a great venue with amazing food. Looking forward to our next visit.
Sara and Sabrina at the bar were amazing! Thank you for those delicious old Cubans. Alex at the patio was extremely helpful. Muchas gracias! Thank you, Lidia for stopping by to say hello. We love you!
Great food and great staff!
Superb Pasta... Ala Bolanese and Carbonara excelled this time around.
One of our favorite Boston restaurants.
The food is fantastic as is everything else. The noise level is a little tough to take sometimes.
The food was excellent at every level. A wonderful addition to the Boston restaurant scene, The service was as good as it gets. Will return.
Fantastic eclectic menu with an abundance of choices. Creative drink specials. Great wine selection. Ambiance is warm with rustic decor. I will be back again whenever I visit Boston.
enjoyed everything, great food
for sharing. Fun place
This was our wedding anniversary dinner on May 27 and it was a disaster.
A 30 minute wait between each course was nothing compared to the awfulness of my main course, rabbit and pasta, which was completely inedible (as well as looking disgusting)
When I complained the restaurants duty manager refunded the cost of our meal but the evening was already ruined.
We will be back for dinner as well as a stay at the hotel
It was a beautiful afternoon and we enjoy an excellent meal out in the sun yet away from the city hustle. I highly recommend Scampo.
Enjoyed our meal very much. The food ( salads, duck, sirloin) were all excellent as was the service. Well run , very professional eatery. We will return
Delicious food and lovely presentation from beginning to end, and excellent service, however pricey for entree portion of pastas vs. appetizer portion listed on menu.
Have dined at Scampo a dozen times because of the consistent excellent quality of the food. Unfortunately, the service is predictably confused with multiple servers duplicating or forgetting service requests. Ambiance is great, especially the absence of loud music, allowing for the pleasant sound of diners conversing at a pitch that doesn’t have to exceed the music. The pork chop, scallops and cheese and pear ravioli were hits this evening. A bit disappointed by the limited wines by the glass selection but overall would definitely recommend Scampo.
Excellent overall dining experience! I would highly recommend this spot! The pasta was delicious and all of the seafood dishes were cooked to perfection and the portions were perfect!
Definitely going back to try more dishes from the varied menu!!!
I eat at Scampos quite a bit. And the food is usually terrific. But this time I ordered the veal Marsala and it was a big disappointment. The veal was thick and chewy. And nit very tasty. It’s really the first bad dish I have had at one of my favorite places to dine. Wine choice was fine and the service was excellent. I will return but I will not be ordering that dish again.
Scampo is great, vibrant athmosohere, surreal good staff, exeptional food!
I have had quite some experience with Italian food, throughout Italy and elsewhere, but this is absolute great.
Service by Brian and all the staff was exceptional! Food was fun and delicious!
Attentive , excellent service. Great lunch menu for every level of appetite. Will go again soon.
The food was excellent!
The food was so full of flavor and delicious. We had a truly delightful time and it was a perfect place to celebrate our anniversary.
Has been wanting to visit Scampo for a while. While the ambiance of the room and the service was attentive without being obtrusive, the food lacked flavor. We shared the fried calamari which was well prepared - but coated in a bland breading the subtracted from the flavor of the squid. My fiance had the pizza which was good. I had veal scallopini whch was also sorta bland. The pasta served on the side was good. Desert was solid. However for $200 (with the tip +$30 to park) the meal was not worth it. You can spend half the amount we paid and have a better meal.
Amazing service, great food, bright atmosphere. Perfect spot for a night out!
