Great spot for romance or dinner with friends. Delish cocktails and food!
We had an extended lunch. Things did not go well. After we had water in glasses on the table, I happened to put a foot on the round supporting base of the table (It would have been hard not to), which turned out not to be stable. The big movement toward me because the table was not level knocked over my full water glass and my wife’s. My place, pants, chair, and the floor under were drenched. The waiter moved us to another table, and I told the (quite impersonal when we arrived) hostess what had happened, just so that someone besides the waiter would know. She made sympathetic noises, but I suffered through the meal with soaked pants. We should have left. Where was the manager during all this? Who was in charge? Does anyone care? The décor was crisply formal. It reminded me of the many modern Swiss restaurants I have been to outside the larger cities: spare in a mildly luxurious way with a copper hood and a fire. The drinks were very good. The food was uneven. It was well presented. The prosciutto with cheese balls was excellent, as was the rich tasting sorbet. My European wife and I both thought the food was too salty. We have plenty of experience with over-salted food in European restaurants. I was surprised to encounter it in the US at a restaurant of this reputation. She had the sole and I had the veal. The flavor of both would have been more enjoyable had it not been masked by the salt. The waiter was pleasant and mostly attentive. We won’t be going back. The manager needs to take some steps, including being on duty and informed by the staff when there is a difficulty. As it is, the place is anonymous and the food is not worth the price.
From the moment we pulled up to tje valet parking the entire evening was perfect. Our food was delicious our server was THE BEST and the desserts were sooooo good! We can’t wait to keep coming back so we can eventually try everything on the menu! Oh and by the way the hotel is beautiful!
First visit was excellent. Look forward to going again
As always, Scampo was great. The occasion was a birthday luncheon for one of us and the experience was wonderful for all concerned.
Lovely Dine Out Boston lunch here - service was attentive and knowledgeable, the Dine Out menu had a good set of options, food was both interesting and delicious - perfect way to treat ourselves to a nice meal out.
Value rating based on Dine Out Boston menu, which was exceptional.
Had a really nice dinner. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Love this restaurant!
Not enough description of the foods on the menu
Pricey for what you get
Loved the lobster pizza, arugula salad and mozzarella apps to share with a friend over wine. Lobster pizza is a must try! It’s loud and dark, only downside, but that’s what Apple phone flashlights are for! Thank you for a fantastic meal!
Good business lunch spot. Great surroundings, efficient service without a lot of interruptions.
Service and food were great!
Had a great experience
The Dine Out Boston lunch menu for $25 is well-conceived, interesting, and very generous.
Try the whole Dover sole piccata!
Food was wonderful, we loved every dish. Beautiful restaurant in a wonderful building.
We went for my husbands birthday. The food was very good. We had to roti bread with curried chicken as the appetizer. rMy son had his first pork chop ever and loved it. Everyone else had pasta of various kinds, all very good. They kindly put a birthday sparkler in my husbands dessert Very lively, excellent service
Two complaints. ...noise level is deafening....and I really think they should at least give a discount on the parking.
We had a great lunch with excellent food, outstanding service, and good conversation in a relaxed but attentive environment.
Unfortunately, my wife became very ill just after we had ordered our dinners during a recent visit to Scampo, so we didn't get to eat. This was a shame because we have eaten there before and the food and service are excellent. On this occasion, the restaurant and hotel staff also showed that they are great people. They were very responsive to the situation, very understanding, and helped us get her to our car and safely home. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning again sometime soon.
I had a solo dinner to check out the food here for the first time. My wife has food allergies so I like checking out how things tick so sitting at the counter was ideal. Always order a Negroni to start. If they can’t get that right, there’s no point of going any further. Foie gras was okay, nothing spectacular. The ravioli that came with it was a bit overdone and the fig sauce needed more acidic punch to counter the richness of the foie. I should have ordered a salad for a pause from that rich foie but ended up ordering the spaghetti carbonara. A well made classic. I ordered a second Negroni ....maybe a subconscious effort to cut the richness before the main course, Berkshire Pork chop with chestnut creme brûlée. As I waited for the pork chop, I watched the mozzarella bar team crank out dozens of dishes. A couple of dishes came back as they were not made to speck. I watched a burrata dish get returned to the bar, the chef removed the almond brioche croute from the top and the dish returned to service. This said to me that there’s NO WAY I’m bringing my wife to this place. No care for cross contamination prevention here! Thankfully I have no food allergies but my wife has several and that’s why I do recon dining. My pork chop was superbly done, which can be easy to messed up with thick cuts. Bravo on that dish. I really wanted to try a dessert but that chop got the best of me. If you’re going to have an open kitchen make sure the staff is on point with sanitation and cross contamination avoidance practices. If it’s obvious there, it’s probably worse in the main kitchen.
The service was amazing. Love the menu. Good acoustics. Met Lydia Shire. A fun night!
Food was good service was amazing
I was excited to go to Scampo and chose to ignore other sub par reviews. I should have considered the reviews... The Liberty Hotel was fabulous, really cool boutique property and Scampo atmosphere had a cool vibe although loud. The server we could not hear at all and while he would come closer to hear us, he didn't do anything to raise his own voice to be heard. After a different server attempted to deliver the wrong appetizer, a manager (?) came over to apologize that our appetizer was lost in their computer system and was delayed. Our server never mentioned it. After receiving the correct appetizer, we had to request that the server take our order so we could get rid of the menus. Not sure what he was waiting for. He was not attentive to our table at all. I was particularly annoyed when he used his tool to pick up the crumbs off of the table from the bread sticks. Perhaps if they had served the bread sticks on a plate as opposed to dumping on the tablecloth there would not have been such a mess! Maybe he gave up after the appetizer snafu, but that wasn't really a major problem so I can't really say that's a valid excuse. Our meals were ok. We will not return.
Everything was great — except the waiter was really off Sunday night - which is strange for this restaurant as we always have great service
We were in the city to see a show and came here for dinner before the show. Our only regret is that we wish we had more time to spend at the restaurant before we had to leave for our show. The Sunday night chicken Parm special was excellent. We will be back!
Service was extremely bad as we had to ask several times for someone to take our order, to take a drink order, to get those orders, to get salt and pepper, to take away the dirty plates etc. Our drinks arrived after we had finished eating. There was no checking in on us either. The food was good. Not much else to add.
I had never been to Scampo before for Brunch only previously for lunch and dinner. The menu is well thought out and the food was excellent the service however was poor. Orders were not taken properly or were missed entirely - so parts of the orders came out at different times. Requests for salt/pepper and hot sauce took took a while and food became cold. I saw a person from another table get up and go to a wait station to get a pepper mill. Additional orders for drinks/refills were so slow that we had already finished our food and had to cancel them. The restaurant was not busy with only 6 tables in use at the time. It appeared that they were using bussers as waiters that day who were not trained to wait on tables (reaching across diners to serve and remove plates, for example). The food made up for the poor service somewhat but the overall experience was a disappointment.
We have been going to brunch in valentines weekend for the past 5 years at Scampo. Great food great Bloody Marys and good atmosphere.
Amazing! We can’t wait to go again. Brought friends from out of town. They were very impressed!
We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner there. Haven’t been in a while and forgot how much we love the place. The prosciutto mozzarella was delicious as was the spaghetti app. Blanking on name. Lydia Shire was there and very nice, talking to all the patrons and thanking them and handing out roses. We will be back soon!
Great food and ambience and reasonably priced
Food and server were very good but proportions were smaller than expected.
Scampo never disappoints. My only suggestion for improvement was that we were told that we would be seated right at 5:00 for our 5:00 reservation. We had arrived early and were having a drink at the bar. We had expected that the host/maître d' would find us promptly at 5:00 in order to seat us. This did not happen and we had to approach the host/maître d' in order to be seated.
Amazing dinner and our waiter was so polite. I will continue to return to Scampo!
This was our second time there, and once again the overall service is not good. The food is great, but in general a little overpriced for the overall quality of the food + restaurant + service. The waiter for example accidentally poured someone`s wine over our pate (appetizer). He just said "I am sorry", removed it, cleaned everything up and that`s all. He did not even offered a replacement. Also it took ages for them to come back and pick up our cc for payment. I would only return there if have to (i.e. business dinner).
The hostess was unpleasant when we asked for a different table. Very sour and obviously unhappy with us. Failed at hospitality 101 and set a poor tone for our experience. Server never came back to check on us after entrees were dropped until we were almost finished and then we had to find her to get our check. I had very high expectations for great food and experience. Neither were met. Disappointing dining experience all around.
The place looked beautiful, most of the food was very flavorful but unfortunately the service was slow. We ordered a few plates to share amongst 4 of us, but the waiter failed to mention some of the platers we ordered were only 3 pieces, so we had to wait longer. The waiter was also wasn’t present at all, the entire time, and the place wasn’t even that busy. The complimentary bread and pesto dip was spectacular though!!
The food would be the reason to come back but the service was lacking. It was very loud in there and the waiter spoke so softly that we could not hear a word he was saying nor did he make any attempt to try.
Usually when you are in a loud place the waiters will come to you and or also bend down to hear what are asking. Not ours he stood in one spot and would not move unless to turn and leave. There are several places to eat in downtown Boston and when you go to a $$$$ restaurant you should expect good service.
Love everything about this place! Great food, awesome service, fair prices, we love it all!
