Scalo Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good. However, the halibut that was on the menu was not available and that has happened to us the past three times we’ve been there. I dont Know if my friends will ever go back. There should be no reason that you continue to run out of a menu item.
As always, Scalo's service was attentative, professional, and friendly; the food delicious and interesting. The fish and chips special did not disappoint a Pacific Northwest-raised diner who declared it to be especially good. The five of us certainly enjoyed our birthday celebration once again.
The food at Scalo never disappoints. However, the past few visits the service has been a little off. Waiting a while before being recognized at the table, not receiving the bread until the food shows up while the other tables get theirs upon placing their order. These simple issues all happening while there were only four occupied tables in the place.
There 11 of us in our party. To take care of our table and other tops was quite a talent. The food was delicious and the service was great. I did appreciate the spot for the wheelchair, but not that happy that it was at the end of the table. I am always placed at the end of the table, leaving me few people to mix with throughout the meal. I want to be in the middle of the table. Maybe it should be asked where the person in the wheelchair would like to sit. Usually, the wheelchair has to face the wall rather than the open room, or placed at the end of the table. Do think of the person, not the chair.
However, we will return! Thank you for a very nice night!
PATRICE WAS OUR SERVER, SHE WAS SUPERB. KNOWLEGEABLE OF THE MENU AND WINES.
MY FRIEND HAD "PENNE AND SALSICCIA" HE FOUNDED EXTREMELY TASTY. I HAD "TUNA" WHICH WAS PREPARED AS TUNA SHOULD BE, THE MIDLE WAS RAW. WITH EVERY BITE OF FRIED POLENTA AND TUNA I "DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN" MY COMPLEMENTS AND GRATITUDE TO THE PERSON IN THE KITCHEN THAT PREPARED IT.
My first time eating at this restaurant with my family who's never eaten there either and I'm sad to say it was my suggestion to go there for Thanksgiving. The food was okay. The pasta came out and there was a few that were still hard and uncooked and they ran out of sun-dried tomatoes which the waiter did not advice. I got the short rib and it came out on a humongous bone the meat itself didn't have such a great taste but there was plenty of it but there was also a lot of fat. The service was descendants once he got to our table but it took him quite some time to get there and even asked for our drinks. The food came out really fast that maybe the reason why some of the pasta were still uncooked. I will go back for this Sunday brunch... The Bloody Mary bar is enticing but won't be looking forward to eating there.
This is a great restaurant for a Thanksgiving celebration when your group includes vegetarians and/or everyone loves Italian dishes; they do have a traditional menu as well. Scalo's is attractive verging on elegant. In typical Albuquerque fashion, many dress very casually. Because we made reservations, we were seated immediately. Scalo's was packed which overwhelmed the wait staff at times...a very popular restaurant.
Have been here before and very much enjoyed it....maybe because it was Saturday, maybe they are getting too complacent, in any event we were most disappointed this visit. Service was poor, the waiter was not the least bit attentive, in fact he would look away when near or passing the table, had to waive him down which I never do, refill of wine (dinner, but he did not check back) brought out with one of the two coffees ordered after the meal....we didn't bother to ask for the other cup as we did not want to wait anylonger. The caesar salad was bland and thoughtless, the veal piccata entree arrived with the veal at the bottom of a bowl covered with pasta and 2 very very charred pieces of bread and a chunk of grilled lemon atop, not very appetizing, the other veal piccata entrée arrived exactly the same except one piece of very charred bread and the other untoasted, inconsistent. The squash soup was to die for...mmmm best part of the meal.
The Bloody Mary bar is a great deal and it's fun! You can also get a "virgin" glass and just enjoy the food part of the bar.
I have never been disappointed at Scalo. The Butternut Squash soup I recently had there was wonderful.
The windows make for a light, bright dining area in the front during the day but it also has an air of intrigue at night.
Scalo is reliably very good, and Thursday night was no exception. My only complaints were with the time from ordering until our salads were served - 20+ minutes! The Caprese salad was very good (especially the fresh mozzarella) though the tomatoes were not yet ripe.
My husband and I have been enjoying dining at Scalo for as long as it's been open, since we just live 5 blocks away. Usually the service is excellent. This night there was a big party upstairs, so those of us downstairs had slow service. The food is always great.
We were in Albuquerque for the balloon festival. Based on two pleasurable experiences last year we recommended Scalo to fellow RVers for dinner. All of the six new diners were very complementary on the taste, quality, service, and portion size. This visit exceeded our expectations!
