Intermezzo: 2:30pm — 5:00 pm; Il Bar Happy Hour 4:00 pm — 7:00 pm.
We loved the formality: white table cloth, napkins. Very good wine and food and excellent service.
The food was delicious. The waiter was appropriately friendly. It is a wonderful place and I would go back.
Excellent service. Fantastic scallops and filet of beef. One of our favorites. Wish you had creme Brule on your dessert menu.
Food and drinks we awesome. Their squash soup is my favorite and their cheescake dessert is amazing.
Our final evening of a long vacation before flying home we treated ourselves to dinner. I found Scalo recommended in tour book and on line list of 20 best in Albuquerque. I had the salmon entree and my husband the trout special. For dessert he had gelato and I had custard dish. The presentation and flavor combinations were excellent for dinner and dessert. The service was very good too. We stopped at the hostess desk on our way out and shared our compliments. I highly recommend Scalo to all.
Great place, great food, superb service, relaxing atmosphere.
Fourth time at Scalo. Always a great meal. Good wine list and prompt wait staff. Love the specials.
Nice restaurant which we get to several times per year. 200 miles away! Food is great and freshly prepared.
Scalo is just good all around. Food is amazing, the fritto misto was perfectly cooked. Atmosphere is relaxed, the restaurant is clean, service was good. If you want excellent food in a great restaurant go to Scalo.
Excellent quality and quality of food. The seafood was fresh and deliciously prepared!
I have been going to Scalo's for as long as they have been in business. The service and general ambiance was very good but the main courses were disappointing. They have their ups and downs with respect to food and they may be in a down trend. Not sure who is running the kitchen these days but it may be time for a change.
We were there for a mid-afternoon Saturday lunch. The fried polenta was greasy and the pasta was way overcooked. We were pretty disappointed. The waiter was apologetic and comped us a dessert (which was delicious). But for an Italian place that brags about their polenta in particular, our meals were a poor advertisement. It will be a long time before we venture in here again.
My husband and I dined at Scalo's for my birthday. We were very disappointed. We opted out of any drinks but ordered a pizza which took forever because the first one got burned. (things happen so we can't fault anyone) The manager came by our table to share this information after we waited a long time, shortly after he told us, our pizza arrived. He said he would comp us a dessert because of the inconvenience and also because of my birthday. We never received any dessert. When our main courses arrived, I couldn't believe how flat and tasteless and meatless my fusilli bolognese was. I should have refused it but I didn't want to complain on my birthday. My husband's meal was very flavorful and he actually let me finish his plate because he felt bad mine was so bland. Between the waiter and the manager, to which both were casually told that it was my birthday, neither one wished me 'happy birthday'. On the contrary at dinner the next night at another establishment in town, I got the treatment and courtesy and free dessert that I would have expected at Scalo's. This waiter got a very handsome tip. Probably won't go to Scalo's again. We left an appropriate tip at Scalo's but the guy would have gotten a lot more had he been more personable.
Must have been an off night. We sent two dishes back because they were poor quality, and over cooked. I have eaten the chicken Alfredo pasta twice before and it was amazing. This night two of us ate the dish and rather than send it back ( the pasta was not fresh made pasta,) we ate some and left. It tasted like noodles with just a flavorless white sauce on it.
Italian Southwestern--the creativity never ceases to amaze me. Halibut on fingerling potatoes (lots of other flavors below), the top of the perfectly cooked fish layered with an apple/green chili marmalade. My wife's shrimp scampi had red chili flavoring blended in the pasta, along with fresh peas. Started with the burrata bruschetta--too much for two people as it was quite rich, but wonderful. Great wine list.
Was a very nice night out. The service was great, the food was good and the outdoor patio was very nice...overall a nice time!
I love Scalo. The food was amazing. The drinks took a long time. I can’t tell if our waiter was trying to be funny or was just odd or rude. He mocked my friend for not pronouncing a dish correctly and was a little too sarcastic at times. All in all, it was a good experience.
Have gone to Scalo since it first opened. Alas, this trip was frustrating and disappointing since my guest and I waited for an hour between appetizers and entrees. This is unforgivable in a restaurant with Scalo's usual high stabdards,
A fabulous meal. The Agniolotti (short rib ravioli) was amazing! Great service, low noise and outdoor seating. What else do you need?
We enjoyed lunch on the patio. It is probably the only patio in Albuquerque that has table cloths! No matter how good the food is, eating on a harsh metal table ruins the pleasure of eating outdoors, so hooray for Scalo! Also they have full shade which is very important in our sunny weather. The only bad thing is all the heavy truck traffic that passed by on Central.
Just average at best- Food was not cooked to order, cheese plate was full of molded cheese and that was the sliced or presentation side. Left it in the plate and the waiter didn't notice or say anything. All the meates were overcooked to the point of dry. Wouldn't go there a second time- just better places to spend your money
My husband and I live in the neighborhood and eat here often, it's consistently tasty.
Prompt and friendly service. Goid wine suggestion. Tasty food.
The food and service were both very good. We ate on their patio outside & it was delightful. Some traffic noise but so nice to eat 'al fresco'.
Scalo never fails to disappoint. Their menu has been slimmed down a bit, but we can always find something we really like.
Made a last minute reservation for Mother’s Day dinner on a recommendation from a Lyft driver. We arrived late and our host still got our table together very quickly. We were in a rather cramped section for our good-sized party of 6, but it was still cozy.
Our order was a little complicated with a couple primi for the whole table, some split salads and secondi for everyone. Our server seemed new to the menu, but he was extremely careful to make sure he had our order down exactly. Also, the kitchen was out of a large number of items. In any case, not sure if the kitchen got things confused but many our our steak orders weren’t cooked to order. Our server made sure to coordinate everything, sending some plates back, and when they did they were just perfect.
Delicious cocktails and really fantastic food. We ended up having a really memorable dinner. Thanks again to our server (wish I could remember his name), he dealt with a lot very professionally.
Can’t wait to come back!
This was not Scalo's typical great food and service. Hopefully, just a bad day.
Who runs out of eggs at noon for Mother’s Day Brunch?
It was fine. I've had way better for the same price. Waiter seemed cool until he blamed the party for his bill mistakes. Charged wrong cards and mixed up bills. We were kindly telling him how to fix it and he became very rude. Bottom line, it was his mistake and he did not apologize.
Absolutely horrible service. We waited over an hour and a half for our food . Then were told they ran out of lamb. Then waited an additional hour. We almost walked out!!!!
Never disappointed in the food when we dine with Scalo
Awesome atmosphere, super friendly staff and great food!
We had a great meal here. The service was friendly and prompt. Interesting desert choices - but our waiter made a recommendation that was very tasty. I would definitely go there again if I am in town.
This is one of my favorite Albuquerque restaurants. The food is good and so is the service. On Friday evening, however, the meal had a couple of glitches. We waited a very long time for pizza and when they arrived, one was cold. When I mentioned the wait to the foodrunner, he essentially said "don't blame me." To the waiter's credit, he took the price of the pizzas and our appetizers off of the final bill. Finally, I believe my son got sick from the Linguine Bianchi e Neri con Frutti di Mare.
I chose this restaurant pre Popejoy Hall event because it was nearby and I hadn't eaten there before. I met my 2 friends there. We were seated on time at 6 PM, placed our orders, started with salads and wine and watched other diners arrive and get their entrees served before us. Our waiter kept telling us our entrees were coming 3 times. We suspected our waiter didn't get our order in right away. Dinner FINALLY arrived after 7 PM and we had to hurry and eat so we can pay and leave and get to the event barely in time of doors closing. My spaghetti with shrimp was pretty bland. I didn't enjoy having to rush my dinner. I'm sorry the service and food wasn't up to par.
Our server was the worst. He removed my wife’s silverware with her salad. Our dinner was served, but he was nowhere to be found. After 15 Minutes, I approached the hostess who was able to find us silverware so we could eat our cold meals. Our server was non-apologetic and said he was waiting in the bar for 20 minutes because they were backed up.
Food was not good. Too much carbs even with meats. Fat from having a Mediterranean taste. Bill contained items we were not served and a 20% tax for parties 6 or more and we were 5 people.
Fun 50th birthday celebration! Our cocktails and appetizers were perfect. Two of us had the seafood pasta special and it was ok. Next time both of us will get a tried-and-true from the menu.
Scalo is an Albuquerque institution for a reason. We went on a Saturday for brunch and were not disappointed.
The bloody Mary bar is insane. Start with a large glass, half full of vodka and ice, then add almost anything you can think of. There is every kind of tomato type product you need plus all the normal accoutrements. Or you can go crazy. Add everything from wasabi paste to truffle oil. Then skewer 15 different types of hors d'oeuvres and garnish with at least 30 options, from olives to asparagus to blue cheese. There is also a huge wine list.
The food was delicious. We ordered Eggs Benedict, Salsiccia e polenta, spinach ravioli and a salad with kale, prosciutto and pears. In the Benedict, you could actually taste the lemon in the hollandaise and the egg was perfectly poached. In the Salsiccia, the polenta was perfectly crispy and the sausage was life changing. Seriously the best sausage I have ever had. The ravioli and the salad were also delicious, so much so, that they weren't shared.
Service was a bit slow, but friendly and helpful. Our bill for 4 entrees, 2 bloody marys, an ice tea and a ginger ale was just over $70. We can not wait to go back.
Scalo is a restaurant that rarely disappoints. We don't usually get an appetizer, but we wanted to have something while we enjoyed our wine. We ordered the Bruschetta and I have to say it came with slightly burnt toast points and the worst dip I have ever had in my life. Some kind of honey or something poured on top of it. It was so bad the waiter had no problem removing it from the bill. Otherwise it was great...
