Scalo was absolutely amazing! Everything from beginning to end was absolutely amazing including our wonderful waitress Gloria. The only minor issue was that the table I had reserved near the front window was not available when we arrived. Other than that tiny glitch we had an amazing time at Scalo. The food, the wine, and the dessert was impeccable. Compliments to the chef!
We were seated upstairs to accommodate our large party. We had the room to ourselves and received outstanding service. No mix ups on food or checks, reasonable check-backs by our waitress. Food was excellent - more sophisticated Italian, not the usual spaghetti and meatballs choices. Parking can be challenging with all the mess and traffic on Central so allow some extra time to locate a place. It helps to be prepared to walk a bit.
The restaurant is somewhat noisy, not something I appreciate, but apparently inevitable these days.
We chose this restaurant as it was close to our hotel. I’d read a couple of reviews that were quite positive.
Our waiter was informative and helpful. Much to our delight we learned Monday night all wine is half price-a real bonus.
We each had a salad-mine was with a house made lemon dressing and my husband had a perfect Cesar salad. Entrees were delicious. Try the desserts-also made on premises
Excellent, as usual! The food and service is always wonderful!
Pretty sure the mashed potatoes were instant. One of the lamb steaks was completely raw.
Excellent food, menu, wine, and service. Pretty noisy but tolerable early.
Has some of the best food in Albuquerque. The restaurant is always clean, ambience is nice and the waiters are very accommodating and friendly. Price range is very reasonable.
Food and service were outstanding. The wait staff and the manager were very attentive. Looking forward to a return to Albuquerque and Scalio
Dinner was delicious, for sure, with amiable waiters/waitress; noise level went up about 6PM;
our reservation was for 5. By the time we finished at 6:30 the noise level rose appreciably...
food was excellent; waiter willingly took back our plate so we could share - he could have anticipated this as we had ordered it originally for splitting.
I would return for lunch, but not for dinner as I like to hear my companion and not have to repeat every sentence.
Lovely Sunday brunch and amazing bloody Mary bar with tons of snacks to include as part of the cocktail!
Nothing not to like here. Have always enjoyed the food and service. A great value too.
It was okay, really noisy upstairs. Food was decent. Overall nothing special. Prices were mefium.
This was our first experience at Scalo’s and it was terrific. We each had different dishes and were delighted with them. I had Caesar salad and shrimp on linguine and it was really special. The Wine List was expansive and we could watch the waiter walk into the wine cellar to pick out our bottle. We will return.
Fine Italian cuisine with some original touches. The mussels, a classic appetizer for Italian restaurants, featured added ingredients that enhanced the flavor.
I like Scalo very much, and have had many excellent meals there. Maybe it was because it was Sunday night, but it wasn't up to par. The room appeared shabby, the food was served cold and over-salty. They were sold out of Pellegrino and some flavors of sorbet.
Chalk it up as an off night.
I always enjoy dining at Scalo with friends or alone!
We had a great gathering here. The Bloody Mary bar is fun but the wait is a little too long during certain times. Food was great. Our server Justin was really great!
An energetic and lovely restaurant, where people are enjoying their food and each other. Professional service, good wine, and reasonable prices!
Had a pasta special with mussels and salmon that wasn't so special. Very little salmom, mussels OK, very bland, no distinguising flavor, didn't awaked my taste buds for a $20 tab. The dessert. Mascapone Cheesecake, very "pudding " like , and scant for $7. Not a memorable meal. Menu limited. But may go back for special occasion.
Scalo is always a great place to dine. The food is fabulous, the place is laid back and comfortable. They have a Bloody Mary bar to die for and it is in a great location!. I will dine there again in a heartbeat!
Good food but terrible service waitress ignored us all night waited for 20 minutes just to get a drink and never got refills took 20 minutes after our drinks to order will not recommend this restaurant service is horrible
Scalo’s always provides an enjoyable experience. The food is fresh and “individually crafted”, not just slopped onto a plate. This restaurant could hold its own anywhere!
Great food, great service! Will definitely return.
Great food, good value. Enjoyable experience. Thank you.
Lovely Valentines Day lunch. Food was delicious & service was excellent as usual.
My husband and I had our first date there 18years ago. We just moved back to NM last year. We make it there as much as possible. Good food. Great atmosphere. Good service.
Awesome experience! Efren was fantastic! The food was exceptional and fresh. Great atmosphere.
Had a nice dinner date with my wife. Great value for the quality of food. Had a great seat with the reservation.
Great place to meet a friend for lunch-great ambiance, service, very good food, value for $$
really enjoyed the meal and environment. even the olive oil, vinegar and bread was great.
I will be going back for sure.
Food very tasty. Servers super nice. Indoor/outdoor seating option is great since Central is a great people watching street. If you want a quieter place reserve a table upstairs.
I can’t complain that we had to wait 15+ minutes for our table. Some people do not get up and leave when expected. But when the table was ready the hostess was no where to be found. That meant another 5 minutes of waiting. Scalos does not have an airlock. Every time the door opened it was freezing cold. They need to go. This problem.
It was the food that was disappointing. The menu is much smaller, which isn’t necessarily bad. It was that the food was ordinary. When the food at a chain place is better, Scalos is in trouble. If we wanted to eat at a chain restaurant we would. Scalos used to be extraordinary good.
Excellent meal and first rate service in this Nob Hill gem!
We had never been here before. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 545 Opentable reservation and got sat immediately on the upper floor. It was pretty empty then, but filling up by 6pm. Our waiter was a little green, but a nice guy all the same. The table bread was pretty basic, and not particularly great. We had the calamari and shrimp appetizer, which came with some tomato sauce underneath. The sauce wasn't stand-out, but the calamari was very tender inside, nice and crispy outside. For my entree, I had the short ribs with mushrooms and veal reduction on a bed of polenta. The short ribs were cooked nicely, and cut apart easily. The sauce and mushrooms were very flavorful. The polenta was slightly uneven in density but fully cooked and a nice counterbalance to the saltiness of the meat. My wife had the short rib ravioli, and while I didn't try it, it looked great and she enjoyed it. I had 1 beer with our meal, and our total with tip was close to $80. So, it was pretty pricey, though honestly we could have done without the calamari. I'd only come here again for a special night out because of the price, but food-wise it was very nice. The atmosphere was good too, not too loud or bright, pretty classy feel.
It was a Friday night & the restaurant was too loud to have a conversation. Part of it was the crowd during a busy time & part of it was the music was too loud.
The service was a little slower than we had expected, full house, so we were unable to do the Birthday desert prior to our concert.
Food was wonderful, will return at a different time.
I hate to give 5's - nobody's perfect right? - but I don't know what I would change. The food is spectacular; I have never been disappointed there and last night was no exception. The service was also spot on. I couldn't recommend this place more highly.
Try to imagine the following: you love great food, mistakingly thinking that only in large metro areas of this country can you find subtle and delightful food creations, yet you arrive at a modified strip shopping center on the main drag near the University in Albuquerque to find a restaurant serving one of the consistently finest menus of northern Italian cuisine anywhere! Are you ever (delightfully) embarrassed! Such quality, such skilled and knowledgeable staff such affordable beverages and wines...the list goes on. Never again will you doubt that fine dining has arrived in middle America. If Scalo's is any example, it not only has arrived, it is flourishing!
Primarily we were there for the Bloody Mary bar. It was fun building your own drink. The only thing I would suggest is better organization. Someone needed to monitor the bar for items that had run out.
Our cocktails were excellent but 2 of us felt that our pasta dishes were too salty. The restaurant was packed and our waiter seemed to have a lot of tables. We were there to catch-up with friends so didn't mind the slower service. All of enjoyed their great desserts. Scalo's is a favorite spot!
