Try to imagine the following: you love great food, mistakingly thinking that only in large metro areas of this country can you find subtle and delightful food creations, yet you arrive at a modified strip shopping center on the main drag near the University in Albuquerque to find a restaurant serving one of the consistently finest menus of northern Italian cuisine anywhere! Are you ever (delightfully) embarrassed! Such quality, such skilled and knowledgeable staff such affordable beverages and wines...the list goes on. Never again will you doubt that fine dining has arrived in middle America. If Scalo's is any example, it not only has arrived, it is flourishing!

Our cocktails were excellent but 2 of us felt that our pasta dishes were too salty. The restaurant was packed and our waiter seemed to have a lot of tables. We were there to catch-up with friends so didn't mind the slower service. All of enjoyed their great desserts. Scalo's is a favorite spot!

This was our first time to Scalo which was a recommendation from a friend. I went with high hopes being our first time and all and was very disappointed. My chicken fettuccini was seasoned with too much salt to the point where I barely even touched my plate. Honestly my pasta reminded me of the instant packaged pasta called Knorr Pasta Sides; the only difference was the appearance of my pasta on a fancy plate. The flavor and pasta was almost identical with way too much sodium seasoned on top. The raviolis my wife ordered were decent but they could of used some kind of meat or anything else other than just pasta and sauce it was mundane. For the expensive prices and mediocre food, I was very disappointed.

My family took me here for my 21st birthday and it was great! Great food, great drinks, and they gave me a free tiramisu for my birthday. It’s a little dark so maybe bring your glasses if you need them

We have dined at Scalo many times, and our experience on Friday, January 12 was a bit off. While the food was good, the service was mediocre at best. It seemed that our server possibly had too many tables, or that they were too spread out in the restaurant.

On this day I was treating a good friend to a birthday lunch. I got there a little early and was greeted by a very attentive and friendly hostess who offered me the choice of anywhere I'd like to sit, offering her suggestions, which helped. Our server was SR. She was genuine, professional, attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and the atmosphere comfortable, lovely and quiet enough to enjoy conversation. I would recommend Scalo's to friends.

Lamb chops and fish cooked perfectly and pasta looked wonderful. Caprese salad should of had better tasting tomatoes & cheese should of been soft. Otherwise, pleasant atmosphere & good service.

Had a nice relaxing dinner on Friday night. Left full and satisfied. If you have apps and share a salad, you’ll go home with lunch for the next day. Just as yummy on day #2 as portions are generous!

Used to be better. For the price, food is not what I expect. Service lacked as we waited fir the wine, never got vinegar for bread, then waited for the receipt while waitress was telling her life story to the next table and waving my credit card around. Lost the sophistication that it used to have. Hope they get it back.

Mozzarella so hard in a caprese salad you needed a knife, and then it crumbled. Mozzarella doesnt do that.

A horrible experience; we arrived 5 minutes early and the maitre-di did not even recommend the bar, so I said we would wait there ("we are not quite ready or set up..."); I told her we would wait at the bar (hint, hint); 20 minutes later, we are still at the bar and she meets me half way to the tables saying she was just coming to get us; I ask her to send someone to carry our 3 drinks and another 5 minutes passes, despite my asking the bar tender twice to please get someone there to help carry our drinks (and the bar and waiters were "oh and we will...."); meantime, 2 of us are seated, but not me, on this special occasion. Next, the waiter appeared intermittently, had to be reminded to ask if we wanted more drinks, was clearly not interested in us. I have, in my 26 years of going to Scalo's, never had such a poor experience. The wait staff and others are NOT well trained and before I recommend it to anyone from out of town, I would hope to see vast improvement. I still tipped 20%, but do not know why. I hope the manager reads this and explains to the greeters, waiters, that attentiveness is key to retaining customers. I will do the Four Seasons next time in March. I live in both LA and Albuq. P.S. the dishes' sauces need monitoring, too much red sauce, overpowering each appetizer. The veal scallopini was buried under a mound of linguini. The lamb chops were good and the salmon was fine.

We have been going to Scalos for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. I’d say it was one of the first higher end restaurants in Albuquerque. The target clientele ($$$) has more options than it did in previous years. While there are a number of fine restaurants to choose from, we continue to go back, whether it is for Sunday Brunch or a meal in the bar. The service is always first rate- present and accommodating but not overbearing. You will not be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious from the start. The bread that was served tasted so fresh and was warm and soft. Perfect for dipping in the olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

For our appetizer we ordered the Caesar salad which was one of the best that I’ve ever had (we held the anchovies).

My main course was the spaghettini which had shrimp and sundried tomatoes. It was delicious. We had the tiramisu for dessert which didn’t disappoint.

We were visiting New Mexico and happened upon his restaurant in the Open Table app. It was perfect and we’ll definitely dine again the next time we’re visiting.

Food was very good. However, the halibut that was on the menu was not available and that has happened to us the past three times we’ve been there. I dont Know if my friends will ever go back. There should be no reason that you continue to run out of a menu item.

As always, Scalo's service was attentative, professional, and friendly; the food delicious and interesting. The fish and chips special did not disappoint a Pacific Northwest-raised diner who declared it to be especially good. The five of us certainly enjoyed our birthday celebration once again.

The food at Scalo never disappoints. However, the past few visits the service has been a little off. Waiting a while before being recognized at the table, not receiving the bread until the food shows up while the other tables get theirs upon placing their order. These simple issues all happening while there were only four occupied tables in the place.

There 11 of us in our party. To take care of our table and other tops was quite a talent. The food was delicious and the service was great. I did appreciate the spot for the wheelchair, but not that happy that it was at the end of the table. I am always placed at the end of the table, leaving me few people to mix with throughout the meal. I want to be in the middle of the table. Maybe it should be asked where the person in the wheelchair would like to sit. Usually, the wheelchair has to face the wall rather than the open room, or placed at the end of the table. Do think of the person, not the chair.
However, we will return! Thank you for a very nice night!

My first time eating at this restaurant with my family who's never eaten there either and I'm sad to say it was my suggestion to go there for Thanksgiving. The food was okay. The pasta came out and there was a few that were still hard and uncooked and they ran out of sun-dried tomatoes which the waiter did not advice. I got the short rib and it came out on a humongous bone the meat itself didn't have such a great taste but there was plenty of it but there was also a lot of fat. The service was descendants once he got to our table but it took him quite some time to get there and even asked for our drinks. The food came out really fast that maybe the reason why some of the pasta were still uncooked. I will go back for this Sunday brunch... The Bloody Mary bar is enticing but won't be looking forward to eating there.

This is a great restaurant for a Thanksgiving celebration when your group includes vegetarians and/or everyone loves Italian dishes; they do have a traditional menu as well. Scalo's is attractive verging on elegant. In typical Albuquerque fashion, many dress very casually. Because we made reservations, we were seated immediately. Scalo's was packed which overwhelmed the wait staff at times...a very popular restaurant.
