Elephant Bar Restaurant - Albuquerque

Unfortunately, the city of ABQ with their doomed transit down the middle of central put this place and many others in the neighborhood out of business,
a fancy pizza place but not what they promote themselves to be. The italian food is mediocre in my opinion. I have eaten there twice snd always leave saying why did i eat there.
This restaurant was one of the best in Albuquerque - no one served a finer salmon. However, it no longer exists and you should take it off your lists; I'm surprised that you have not done this yet as it closed last year.
Bad service, reservations messed up. Our group vowed never to go there again. Food ok, but not good enough to put up with all of the above.
We had a reservation since middle of December, only to arrive to a dark restaurant and another couple stranded out in the cold (literally and figuratively). Scalo has a sign in the door stating they were closed for renovations and would reopen after the holidays. This is terrible!!!
It absolutely sucked!!! Because Scalo & Open Table don't communicate and update their website!..I made reservations a week in advance through Open Table for New Year's Eve with my wife, we got all dressed up and drove across town with snow & ice to find them closed for the holidays!
Your made a reservation for us at Scalo. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed. I do not want to use this service again.
I guess I should have checked the recent reviews on Opentable before making a reservation on Dec 23rd because I would have seen the restaurant was closed for repairs. Then again, why would I? My family has enjoyed Scalo for the past 25 years. I'm annoyed that no one from Scalo and no one from Opentable contacted us before we made the trip to find the restaurant closed.
The restaurant closed due to "maintenance issues" and didn't notify any of the customers. The restaurant has been closed for several weeks now. Also, Open Table didn't notify us about the closure, we found out by chance and were able to make another reservation for Christmas Eve dinner.
Scalo was closed for business despite our reservation for 11 people. You can imagine our surprise and disappointment when we got there and the place was closed. I was taking my staff to celebrate the holidays and it was incredibly embarrassing as they look forward to our celebration every year. We went to about five restaurants but could not get in due to it being a large party and everyone else celebrating for the holidays. Open table should have been aware of this.
I was really excited to go to Scalo with my family. I reserved via OpenTable. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door of a water main break and it was closed for the evening. I think if a restaurant is going to utilize the social media service, it should also be responsible to those who made reservations and update them of changes. It should work both ways. Poor communication on part of Scalo.
I do love Scalo so I still rank everything high except for Service since they failed to inform me about the restaurant being closed.
It was closed and no one picked up the phone. Must have gone out of business. Hope they update their info.
Place was closed. No one bothered to tell us they had been shut down.
We showed up to our 6:00 reservation with family and the restaurant was closed. I called the following day and was told that they had a water heater busy and had to close for repairs for the previous 2 weeks.
They accepted my open table reservation but never called to tell me they were closed for repairs. Very disappointing!
We arrived for our reservation which for my moms birthday and they said they were not serving the public tonight unless we just wanted wine. Would have been nice to know beforehand
I made a reservation on open table for 6:30 on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. When my husband and I arrived at Scalo, the restaurant was closed. It was being surcharging for a private wine and dine event that we found out about by a notice posted on the front door. Fortunately, I was able to contact the friends who were joining us, and we were able to get a table at Zinc just down the street. Scalo clearly doesn’t check its Open Table reservations.
I made a reservation for three at 7:00 PM. My daughter was in town from college and we were looking forward to our first meal together at Scalo for what had been over a year. I received an email confirmation from OptenTable so presumed all was well. We arrived at Scalo to find it dark and empty, a single printed page taped to the door announced vaguely Scalo was more or less closed for the holidays. The message hinted vaguely that groups of 15 or more might be accommodated. It was a disappointing surprise to learn one of our favorite restaurants couldn't be bothered to update its reservation process through OpenTable and that OpenTable had apparently no mechanism to prevent what happened to me and my family.
It was closed! Drove to it. Paid for parking!
Scalos is closed and you took the reservation. What a waste of time and effort.
The restaurant was actually closed I believe due to water damage so my reservation was never canceled and I showed up there with 13 people with no place to go
Showed up with 13 for our luncheon and the restaurant was closed - even though I had received an email confirmation for our reservation. Not happy!! Should have at least had a voice recording on their phone. When I attempted to call to confirm, "mailbox full" was all I got. I won't use the online reservation again!
I was allowed to make a reservation on line, but when I arrived at the restuarant, there was a sign on the door saying it had been closed for three days due to a water pipe rupturing.
After receiving confirmation of our reservations we get to the restaurant and it is dark with a sign saying there was a water main break and the restaurant was closed. We had to try and find someplace else to go. No prior notice BAD
This was the strangest restaurant experience!!!
We had reservations for weeks to celebrate our daughter's birthday; confirmed by a phone call and multiple, multiple email/text confirmation reminders. 2 days prior to the meal I received an email that our reservation could not be honored as the restaurant was closed due to a water main break. Then, next day an email was sent to us stating our reservations were confirmed as made. We tried to call Scalos the morning of our brunch 12/16 and the voicemail was not accepting messages. I then received a text reminding us of our reservation so we drove from the Westside, daughter and son inlaw drove from far Northeast and low and behold, Scalos was closed!!! We had to figure out an alternative restaurant and made the best of our time however the communication from Open Table and Scalos was extremely poor and uninformed.
ps. Scalos was the only restaurant my daughter wanted to be for her special day!
We had our annual office Christmas Luncheon scheduled on open table at least a month in advance, there was an issue with their water lines. Nobody bothered to call the office and tell us they were closed. All Scalos needed to do was make a phone call. Poor customer service....
The bruschetta was served as plain oven toasted bread with two spreads on the side, which were not flavorful. The fettuccine al pollo was good. I would not have the seared salmon again. Went to the bar after dinner. A nice crowd, friendly service, and good selection of wines.
Everything was great.
We regularly eat @ Scalos. Always excellent....except our last visit. I got short rib ravioli and my wife her usual margarita pizza. Each was less than expected. Ravioli was served in a sea of “tomato” soup. The pizza was served with mounds of tomato paste. The 2 wine selections we chose were “unavailable.”
Hope this is not the new norm!
Went to brunch with 7 women and we each had lovely meals and service. Love that Bloody Mary bar!
We went on a Saturday night and they were out of calamari. We ordered a salad with fennel, which was not in the salad, and I ordered a dish with asparagus, and low and behold, ... no asparagus. Our server was attentive. We had no problem with him, but they really messed up this time on the food.
Scalo is one of our favorite ABQ restaurants, as we can count on an excellent meal, great wine list and cocktails. However, on this occasion they had a very loud and minimally talented band playing in the bar area, which made conversation challenging. We would expect higher quality, more sophisticated live music at such a venue.
My husband and I were in town and being nostalgic as we had our first dinner date here in 1994 and we thought it would be fun to bring our teenaged boys. The menu is almost exactly the same, adjusted for inflation. We were seated by a hostess with no greeting/emotion it was odd. The server greeted us poured olive oil and balsamic vinegar on a plate in the middle of the table and took our drink order.
He brings our drinks and takes our dinner order. The oil & balsamic still sits in the middle of the table.
He brings our appetizer.
And finally brings our bread to dip in the oil/vinegar - we were wondering if he thought we would eat the bread and leave?
The hostess is seating a group next to us who doesn't like the table and is letting EVERYONE know. The four of them stand next to the chairs but don't sit down, the hostess leaves, they stand there. The waiter brings our food and maneuvers around them to put our food down. We are trying to eat but their butts are right at our face level, it's awkward. We ask if they can give us space, he says they are waiting for the hostess. My husband goes to the hostess station and strongly asks that she moves them. There is plenty of room at the front of the restaurant for them to wait. She says they are getting another table ready.
When he returns they finally scoot to the side but still causing a scene so the hostess, waitstaff and manager are now coddling them.
The food was fine, all of our pasta was very dry I had to add more olive oil to mine. Nice prices but would not return to eat. The bar is nice and fun.
We had a great time at Thanksgiving dinner at Scalo's
I’m sorry to say, we think it’s not nearly as good as it use to be years ago. Thanksgiving was fine but will try somewhere else next year for quality and value.
While the food is typically very good at Scalo, the service on this outing was marginal. The waitress was not at all attentive, neglecting our empty wine glasses, serving luke-warm entrees that we saw languishing at the kitchen, no spoons for the soup, forgot to bring us bread and generally making us feel neglected. The only thing she served promptly was the check, bringing it right along with our dessert. Judging from the number of servers they did not seem short staffed and we left overall disappointed. Again generally good food at Scalo but fine dining it was not.
I take singles, students who arr alone, every year for Thanksgiving! I love the considerate staff! This year, I took someone who was left out, after we had all already eaten and the waitress happily accomodated us! Our waitress this year was very kind and considerate!
Great place to dine on old highway 66 in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque. Nice menu selections and authentic Italian dishes for everyone.
We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed, the food and service is extremely good.
This has been a favorite place of mine for years. Food is dependably delicious.
I have always enjoyed Scalo, although I live 3 1/2 hours away. On this trip, I invited dear friends to join me and they both thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Time permitting, I always treat myself to a meal at Scalo while in Albuquerque.
