Scalini Fedeli was opened by chef-owner Michael Cetrulo in 1995 and very quickly became New Jersey's highest rated Italian restaurant. Rated excellent by the New York Times in 1996 and New Jersey's favorite restaurant in Zagat's Survey in 2001 and New Jersey Monthly's best Italian and top 25 overall in 2007. Highlights from the menu include soft egg yolk raviolo with black truffle butter, pignoli crusted salmon with artichoke and mint agnolotti in a light tomato and basil broth and braised short ribs of beef with a cherry pepper and port glaze. Set in an historic building built in 1740, the atmosphere is slightly formal with Tuscan style vaulted ceilings finished with Venetian plaster. Tapestry and antique mirrors adorn the walls.

Four of us dined here on Saturday night, terrific ambience, Prix Fixe 5 course dinner. It left nothing to be desired, excellent food, great service, we have dined at the NYC location also, we will definitely make Chatham our go to place for Italian cuisine!

This was one of the best meals I have ever eaten! The ambiance was lovely with a perfect noise level. The service was great. The value was great too. It was a price fix for $72 per person with a 5 course meal. Two of the courses were just 3-bite tastes and were selected for you, but the other three courses (appetizer, main and dessert) were good size and a large selection to choose from. And the food was AMAZING. The soft egg yolk ravioli was literally one of THE BEST things I have ever tasted!! My husband had burrata with watermelon that was very good. He ate the duck for dinner and said it was delicious. I had the potato crusted red snapper and it was fantastic. Our desserts were good too! A chocolate soufflé and yummy donuts! All in all, a completely wonderful experience from start to finish and we will absolutely be returning!

We dined outside with a blaring sun. The porch should have had some kind of awning or shading. Otherwise the food, service and experience was wonderful.

My Cousin brought a bottle of his wife's favorite wine for sentimental reasons. She passed seven months ago. They usually have a $30.00 cork fee but because his bottle was slightly larger they charged us $60.00, I found this to be insensitive as well as unreasonable, especially given how many people were seated at our table. They didn't need the extra money. I left a good tip anyway.

This is our local special occasion restaurant which never disappoints. We started with cocktails with our bread and onion covered focaccia. Amuse buchee of shrimp in cream sauce with mushrooms and peas. Appys were beet salad and pasta carbonara! Yum. Entrees we enjoyed the salmon special and boneless chicken special. Desserts were the chocolate flourless cake with amarena cherries and ricotta doughnuts. Everything was delicious. Service by Andreas and team was impeccable. Wines by the glass are reasonable. We love dining here

The service and ambiance was outstanding. Unfortunately, there was a large party 10+ in the center of the room and they were noisy and took all of the beauty away from the evening. There should be a separate room for dinner parties, especially business dinners. The food in general was outstanding. I had a tagliatelle in a Bolognese sauce and Veal scallopini with prosciutto and eggplant in a wine sauce, both great. My wife had Butternut agnolotti which was great. However, her potato crusted red snapper was a little dry and overdone.

This is a small restaurant so you need to make your reservation well ahead to get an inside table. We reserved the day before so had to settle for an outside table. While the weather was ideal, the tables are on a porch exposed to road noise from a busy street - less than ideal for dinner conversation. Neverthe ess, a pleasant evening overall.

Food was incredible. Every bite of every course was perfect, flavorful, fresh, hot. The service is top notch. Our server, Gus, was excellent. Truly one of the best meals out I have ever had. Not an inexpensive meal, but you do get alot for your money. Be sure to come hungry, you will leave stuffed.

This was my first visit for lunch and first time back in a few years. My loss as Scalini-Fedeli is one of the finest dining experiences in Northern NJ. Food, ambiance, service all exceptional! We ordered a shrimp entree and salmon entree, banana tart to share for dessert. We were seriously cleaning all plates it was so good. Highly recommend…must have reservations for dinner.

Gone are the glory days of this once “magnificent” restaurant in Chatham, where it used to take up to two or three months to get a reservation and on the day of your reservation, the lobby was literally filled with guests waiting in line to be seated; men and women dressed in suits, sport coats and dresses. Things changed so much for the worst in this place. All the tables used to be filled with guests; no more. The place on a Friday night was half filled. There used to be a bunch of waiters all dressed in suits; no more… very sad. As I sat there with my wife, I recalled all the wonderful special occasions I had previously enjoyed at this restaurant and was reminded of an expression my mother used to say to me on occasion when attempting to relive an experience that used to be great. She would say, “you can’t go home again” in Italian but what it meant was, there is a time for everything and my visit last night to Scalini Fideli will be my last. The reason this place used to be so packed with people and the waiting list so long was because there was something "special" about this place. It is no longer that special. While I won't say that it's a bad place to have dinner, I can't say that it sits up there as an exceptional restaurant, any longer. It just isn't.
