Great experience! Our server was outstanding and he made the night enjoyable and fun. Our table right next to the water was perfect for a sunset meal. Food was incredible. We will be back.
The food and service were very good. The view impeccable.
Hugo is amazing!
Loved it from start to finish
Food and service were very good!
Scales is our favorite restaurant . Consistently our food comes out perfectly cooked and their menu is terrific. If you have not been....give it a try. You will not be disappointed!
Service was incredible. The food was prepared to our request and served at the right time.
My experience at Scales Seafood & Steaks exceeded my expectations. When I made the reservations online
I indicated that my wife and I were celebrating our 37th anniversary. When we arrived we were taken to a table that had been decorated with a red table cloth and roses. We were given a complementary plate of assorted sea food and the dinner was followed by a complementary desert. The service was wonderful and the restaurant environment was elegant and contemporary. The sea food was wonderful. I highly recommend Scales!
The Scales staff is always very welcoming and eager to make your dining experience special. Food is always very good, never greasy and clam chowder is the best on the peninsula.
Very nice dinner in a great location. Service was very good. Thank you for providing a fine evening out in Monterey.
I was meeting friend here who was bringing her 4 month old daughter. Nowhere on the website did it state that strollers were a big deal yet when we got there the hostess made such a huge deal about it. They are not family friendly. The waitors and food were excellent but the trouble at the front set a weird tone, we will likely not be back. Not family friendly despite the restaurant being empty. Two other tables were occupied after we came in but until then we were the only ones in there and they sat us at the very back and made my friend carry her heavy car seat all the way back there despite it being a collapsible stroller.
We came to celebrate my girlfriends birthday and had one of the most memorable restaurant experiences of our lives. We spent a long time looking through all the local seafood restaurants menus and reviews and settled on scales. You guys blew our expectations completely out of the water. All the food was very fresh and delicious, the view was amazing and I could not have asked for better service. This was a very special dinner for us and we will be back every time we come to Monterey. Thank you!!!!
As locals we periodically visit Scales. Our last visit was an Wed Jan 29. As usual the food was very good, but the service was poor. Now, the waiter was fine, but the haphazard way that food came out of the kitchen was quite poor:
- We waited quite a long time for our (very good) initial complimentary fried calamari.
- Our salads came while we were still finishing the calamari.
- Our main courses came while we were still eating our salads!
Clearly, some better sequencing and coordination would have been nice. Now, there were two somewhat large parties in the restaurant, but other than that it was not very crowded for a Wednesday. However, that was not a very good reason for our food sequencing.
Nevertheless, we will likely return at some point.
Great place to celebrate a special occasion. Friendly staff and great food.
ALWAYS welcoming, food is creative and excellent in preparation & presentation. One of our very favorite restaurants!
Beautiful location and views service very good. The food was very underwhelming, my daughter ordered spaghetti was the only one us satisfied with her food. Over all very disappointed for the price.
From beginning to end everyone was friendly and professional. Great recommendations and the food was outstanding. This was our second time here and Scales hasn’t disappointed. Will definitely be back.
Very good food with excellent service! The free Calamari appetizer was more than we expected!
We went to Scales on Christmas Day. Staff was wonderful, overall food was good however.... My wife is allergic to MSG, she ordered the Filet steak and, the demi-glace, the twice baked potatoes and the salad dressing all had MSG in it. For a restaurant which boasts about using sustainable farming and organic food this is not acceptable. The steak without the demi-glace was very good and she had french fries and no salad. Scales should do better....
Fantastic food and really outstanding service. We made a couple of changes to our food choices and they gladly gave us our preference. Great job!
We’ve celebrated Christmas and Thanksgiving at Scales for the past 2 years and we haven’t been disappointed in anything. Great food, service and a beige of the marina is a complete win.
Wonderful non-traditional Christmas dinner. Service was fantastic, food delicious, great window booth. Could not have asked for a better experience.
Considering having a meal out on Christmas day the staff was outstanding. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. The overall valve for the price was great. No complaints, enjoyed the meal. We will return. Thanks for the experience.
Amazing service! Wait staff was great. Food was delicious
Excellent service as always. Food was exceptional. The Shakes always go the extra mile.
The service was excellent! I had Thanksgiving dinner and the breast was dry. My wife's halibut had to much junk on it to taste what is usually a great tasting fish. Love the desserts. I didn't like the loud hipster ambience either.
My husband and I came here on our honeymoon, and we were blown away! The staff was amazing, as well as the food. We will definitely be returning the next time we come to Monterey! Thank you!
I asked the waiter if they knew how to cook filet butterfly. He said yes. I got a normal size filet under cooked.
We ordered the chocolate mousse was that all. It was very stiff and thick almost like a cake.
I asked for cream for coffee bus boy never came back had to ask again
Not a good experience. Will I try it again when I visit the area mostly likely not.
My wife and I went to Scales recently for our 31st wedding anniversary. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately and warmly, Got seated to our table early and everything from then on was exceptional. Great, attentive service, great choices in the menu, excellent cuisine, tempting specials and all at very reasonable prices (and they have a decent wine list). I am very picky about seafood and took a chance with one of their seafood dishes - it was amazing. We were extremely impressed as we wondered if Scales would come off as a tourist restaurant with mediocre service and high prices when we made the reservation - wow, were we surprised. I highly recommend Scales for any local residents who want a great meal at a great price.
Great table! Had a window seat and great service. Had the BBQ oysters as an app...delicious! The grilled scallops were tender and flavorful. My wife had the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were yuuuuuuuge. We both enjoyed a cup of clam chowder (shoulda got a bowl) it was that good! Very pleasant experience.
Nice , We will be back.
We discovered Scales 2 years ago when visiting the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf, and they made a
steady pair of customers out of us with their killer clam chowder, menu, and service. This time is was
my wife's birthday dinner, and they again knocked it out of the park. The shrimp scampi and grilled
scallops were excellent, and we got a free birthday dessert to boot. Great service on top of it.
The only negative that night was the lights were dimmed so low we needed our phone flashlights to read
the menu! But overall we love Scales - our favorite restaurant in Monterey. Highly recommend!
As others have written, Scales is on Fisherman’s Wharf, a very touristy place with a nice view (but not of the sunset). But the restaurant itself is large and more upscale than its location. Service was good and very efficient - even when they were quite full and busy. The food was very good and not as over-priced as many others in the area. Overall, a pleasant experience.
Our server, Brianna was great. Food was great. Everything was great. :)
We had a great birthday dinner celebration. The sunset was gorgeous and the night lights over the boats just as beautiful. We really enjoyed all of our meals. Our favorite appetizer was the combination plate of broiled artichoke, calamari and huge grilled shrimp. The whole red snapped was delicious and linguini and whole clams top notch. Our waiter, Zenen, was excellent. Great service. We highly recommend.
Great restaurant for special occasion ie. birthdays 🎉 Great tasting food. They were very accommodating and surprised us with FREE appetizer and it was a variety not just 1 kind and they gave a rose to all female guest. We were also with a table that had a nice window seating that gave a view of the water(even though it was too dark cause of the late evening hour we got there we still enjoyed the window seats) but if it were day time I’m sure the view would’ve been awesome! Thanks to a wonderful bday celebration and we will definitely be coming back again! 👍👍👍👌❤️
Service was excellent and the food was good. Giving roses to the women at the end of the meal is a nice touch.
We had reservations and the four of us were seated straight away in a great corner location with two views of the harbor. However, we soon realized that a group of perhaps 12 people seated across the room were so load that we could not have a conversation. Scales kindly moved us to a less noisy location that had even extra room for us. It turned out that that group was essentially drunk when they arrived at the restaurant! Scales took excellent care of us and the food was terrific.
Very disappointing experience. Loud. Took forever to get our waiter’s attention. Tuna was bland. Halibut good but took forever to come. Overall poor service- mediocre food would not recommend.
