I’ve continuously dined at Scala’s since it’s opening. The hostess Natalie is the best! Kitchen stays open late & whatever time of visit, bar & restaurant experience here consistently good & pleasant. Prices fairly reasonable for Union Square location.
Food was absolutely delicious, and not too pricy (for union square). Wine/drink selection was wonderful, maybe a bit overpriced. Vibrant late at night (10:30) on a weekday. Terrific service. 8.5/10
Food was okay. There is a lot of noise, probably too much noise, which makes talking with your partner or listening to the waiter quite a task. From the moment the food was served, they ignored us, even when I asked for the bill it took far too long to bring it and far too long to come and get paid. While waiting they started cleaning the tables next to us making noise and moving everything as if they were moving the whole restaurant, not kind. It was not late, just 20.30. They left us a bitter taste at the end.
Our waiter was OUTSTANDING..Dante his name I believe..best ever service and attention
We go every week, and always enjoy it!
Excellent lunch spot. Menu of seafood, pastas, pizza, and a burger makes it a good choice for groups with varying tastes. Super friendly and professional waiter.
Service was great and the food excellent. Great homemade ravioli. Relaxing.
Service was fabulous and food is always delicious. Great pizza and seafood.
Always a great time and a fabulous meal!
Very noisy, the whole fish dish of branzino was small for the price. Waiter could have been from NYC
Scala's feels tired. From the booth to the menu and food. Everything was good, but nothing special or great. The booth we sat in was very narrow and the table was unevenly distributed between the two booth seats so on one side it was tight and the other side it was a typical distance. The restaurant seemed rather loud for a Tuesday evening.
I think the restaurant is in such a good location it doesn't have to do anything to attract business -- and it doesn't seem to. The last few times I've been there I've walked away with the same reaction - not sure I'm going back.
As always it was amazing, from the moment you step into the door until you walk out the door! Service and food are consistently excellent! Always eat there when we go to the City. It’s our travel Day restaurant
Very pleasant dining experience over all....however we had 2 entrees..the Lemon Creme Raviolis which was absolutely outstanding..delicious and The 2nd entree was the Marguerita pizza..which was not!! No taste ..looked n tasted like it had been put together by "chef in training"! Also only "oil" for dipping..asked for balsamic and was told didn't have any..oily bread is not a favorite, asked for and received butter. We were guests at the hotel and overall we're glad we chose Scala.
Brunch selection was very limited. Service was ok. Quality of food is very average but not worth what we paid for. Dessert was the best.
The staff were friendly, engaging and responsive.
Splendid French Merlot , salad, meatballs, and pizza
Meet balls were great pork chop was just a bit over cooked but ver good and pasta was great. Very loud due to high ceilings sit in bar area for quietest area. Overall A
Phenomenal as always! We reserved a table for our anniversary and they got us a great spot and made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Comped us a glass of champagne as well. The food is always wonderful and the menu changes enough that it is always a new experience.
Attentive service food good . Could have had more clams in the linquine bit miserable in quantity
The salmon entree never disappoints. Cooked to perfection.
Everything was great except it was sooo cold in the restaurant. We literally had to keep our coats on. Our waiter was terrific and very helpful and the food was delicious!
Did was ok. Whole fish over cooked. Mushrooms very good as was the salad. But at best simple food.
Delicious as always! The service is good and the staff is always friendly. We have eaten there several times and is always great!
Had good food, a little slow on the service. Good cocktail and wine list. Would surely go again
Scala's has come down a few notches as it was always our go-to spot when dining near Union Square. I feel that some of the "old world" charm has gone since the remodel and the food was good but not great.
Ordered the bacon and egg sandwich. The roll was so stale, it was rock hard. Practically not aioli to soften it. I couldn't eat it. The bacon was tough, the egg overcooked, the potatoes soggy. I've had better breakfast sandwiches at McDonalds and Starbucks. Do not recommend for brunch.
The Hostess welcomed us and we were seated immediately. Our server was able to explain a few dishes and accommodate a request to add pasta to the appetizer meatballs.
We enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, spinach budino - very rich, 3 giant scallops spiedini, and the meatballs (3 huge ones) with a side of pasta. The staff acknowledged our anniversary dinner date and gave us a complimentary dessert. Very professional and kind service.
This little Union Square gem is just that! We were treated like royalty and received the perfect amount of attention from the wait staff and kitchen. The food was delicious and just enough. We loved every bite of our salmon, pasta, and appetizer. The wine was lovely and the waiter as knowledgeable as a sommelier.
What a fantastic experience!
Many thanks to all!!
Very yummy. Meatballs and sauce for appetizers were delicious! Good wine selection. My son got risotto and said it was “ok” but I got the rigi with meat sauce and it was decadent. Big portions, neither of us could finish. We had table by the window which was perfect, anywhere else may have been too noisy. Service was good, would definitely go back!
Had a wonderful experience celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday. The food was incredible and the service was amazing!
It was a great evening. Our food was great and our server was amazing
Scala's Bistro has good food and is centrally located in downtown San Francisco, close to theaters and a night out on the town. We had great service but I do think that $100. for a plate of pasta, a small pizza and two glasses of wine plus a small cappuccino is a lot of money!
The food was excellent but it was way too expensive. The service was average, and the kitchen was a little delayed due to valentines.
This was our first time to Scala. The food was very good and service excellent.
Great as usual
Our annual sF visit
The lovely woman at the front desk is always a pleasure to see and chat with
Wine list states incorrect vintage. Pricing and vintage should reflect appropriately.
It was my first time coming to this restaurant and it was amazing the service was great and the food was great. If you want to come here I recommend it and bring money and not so pricey but worth to try. Thank you for a good service Meghan
It is convenient to shopping and my favorite hotel and I love the historic building.
I have been going there for many years... every time I visit SF.
Menu has changed and I am missing some of my favorites, though
Our service was outstanding, delightful wait staff, but the lobster risotto was very disappointing. No flavor! The meatballs and red sauce, outstanding!
We booked La Scala for an anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. Our special occasion was noted and we were given a window seat and in San Francisco that's priceless! Our waiter, Jeremy, was knowledgeable about all areas of the menu and wine list. We had a great Caesar said and the mist delicious rigatoni I've had in years with a meat sauce without tomatoes! And we were gifted with dessert. Overall, one of our best meals in recent history and best service all weekend. We will return again and again.
