The lunch special is way too expensive at $32.00. It was only rissotto with pork. If it's filet mignon, it's understandable or for dinner price.
In Dan Francisco for a wedding
Great service at the bar and table. Waiter was very knowledgeable. Octopus appetizer was very good . Rigatoni was a little too al Dente for my tastes. Restaurant was very loud . A bit difficult to hear conversations .
I meet a friend in the city once a month for lunch and we always go to Scalas. Excellent food, the Cobb salad and mushroom vegetarian sandwich are great! The service is friendly and the place has a nice ambiance
Food was very good. Dessert was not up to the same level as the appetizer and entrée. Service was excellent. Well paced meal.
We split a starter, which was squid salad with faro and it was delicious!
It was a fabulous time! Our waiter Jeremy was very attentive and offered great food selections.
The hostess made us laugh and very good food. Perfect for pre theater meal.
Great, authentic Italian food. Very good wine list. Excellent service. A bit pricey, but worth it. I'd go back, and recommend to a friend!
What a wonderful night! We had a great meal and amazing service.
Convenient city location, traditional American food and service.
Enjoyed the experience. Food was great. Our server was very good. My only complaint was that another server kept trying to pick up our plates when we were not finished. It was like she wanted to turn the table over.
I ordered the whole Bronzino which I requested de-boned. It was served bone in and by the time it was taken back to be de-boned, re-served of course not hot, but most annoying, filled with bones. I understand one might expect a few bones, but this was loaded!
Otherwise our server was very good; the one who took the orders.
Scala’s had an old world San Francisco feeling. I had a Cobb salad which was one of the best I have had. My friend had the ravioli with two different sauces. She liked it very much. Next time I go to a play in San Francisco, I will make a reservation at Scala’s and would look forward to dining there.
Our server was great, management team was very welcoming. Other that that, the rest was okay. Food was over priced for the quality and flavor. My group each had the pasta dishes and agree with my critic.
The place was rocking—seemed very busy for 8:30 pm on a Thursday night. The servers had a lot to do and logistics looked challenging but they seemed to handle it with good humor. Our food was excellent and given that every seat was filled, it wasn’t surprising that our food and drink came out just a tad slower than expected.
Brilliant restaurant. Would definitely recommend!
While the carpaccio was great it wasn’t enough to overcome an under seasoned and tough veal and my steak definitely didn’t taste like a $52 piece of meat. Overall bill w/20% gratuity (I always leave 20%) was $215, definitely not a $200 meal.
I was disappointed in the Veal Parmigiana. It was very thick and sadly made the veal chewy. I love Italian food and was really looking forward to this meal. My daughter's pizza reminded me more of a pizza from a chain than a fine dining experience.
Service was great and restaurant is beautiful. Risotto of the day (crab, asparagus and peas) was not good at all though.
We eat here about 5 times a year. It is always excellent. Though it is an expensive restaurant for us we often share one of their generous sized entree. The sides and desserts are also beautifully presented and generously portioned.
Very good octopus with farro. Whilst the rest of the food was very good -we were a table of 6, everyone asking for a different plate- the one standing above was the starter with the octopus.
They always forget to accept my points from open table
A girls night out with my 12 year old daughter. Waiter Jeremy was awesome, friendly, service was great. Food was outstanding, scallops, lemon pudding cake left me wanting to return ASAP. Love this place!!!
Scala's Bistro was incredible. The woman at the reservation desk keeps the place running! She was extremely nice but ran the place very effectively and made sure our 7:30 reservation was ready on time despite the place being completely full. Scala's is a bit loud but sounds like a traditional Italian restaurant. I had the burrata salad, which could have served two people. My friend had the salad with the pine nut crusted goat cheese. Both salads were delicious! For dinner, I had the ravioli and the waiter suggested to get both sauces (half on each side) while my friend had the Rigatoni Bolognese and both of these dishes were incredible. The food was very filling so unfortunately we had to skip dessert despite the incredible menu. I highly recommend Scala's Bistro!
We always enjoy Natalie's warm welcome. She is always pleasant & personable, even under very stressful circumstances. She makes everyone feel very special.
My husband and I went there every time we were in San Francisco for many years. I have continuee to do so every time I am in the city since his death as well. This time I celebrated the occasion of my son's 50th birthday while he was visiting me from his home in Bangkok, Thailand. It will have been one of the most memorable experiences he will have while in California!
Of course, our food was spectacular, as usual.
Food was amazing! Was very crowded at 7:15 on a Thursday when we arrived for our 7:30 reservation. We said we had a reservation, but it didn't seem like it mattered. No room at the bar for a drink while we waited. VERY loud!
Great food with good service. It was very noisy though
Fantastic food and great ambiance! We will definitely comeback.
Esperaba más de la comida.
It is always wonderful!
Good ambience but meals are huge and expensive especially when you can only eat half of it !
Wonderful meal - never disappoints
We were visiting San Francisco with our friends from Luzern Switzerland. LOVED the fried capers in the carpaccio!!!!!!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. It's old time SF refined. Love the mix of locals and tourists here. Food's great too!
It was ok, but not great. The location is perfect if you are in the Union Square area. A great place to have lunch or take a break from shopping
Good food and service. Reasonable price. It can get a little loud, but still a nice place to enjoy in good company.
Wasn't amazing, very over priced for the very average food.
Wonderful bistro. Very European decor. Service was impeccable.
The food was fantastic and our waiter was awesome..
