My husband ordered the burger (cooked medium) and fries. The burger was more like well done. The fries were very good though. I ordered the chicken sandwich which was just ok. The server was very attentive and accommodating which was the best part of our lunch experience.
In a few words ... waiter was MIA
Very good meatballs and overall nice place to go before a show.
Was good! Noise is really loud but obviously that can’t be helped by the restaurant (or can it)? We were actually in a big round booth, basically facing each other and could barely hear.
Our server was amazing and once we ordered, it was quick!
Overall great experience!
It was a great place and the gluten free spaghetti was amazing. The only problem is that it is a bit loud.
This was a birthday lunch and the first visit for the celebrant at Scala’s. This was my first visit since Scala’s renovation and revamping of their menu. Having experienced Scala inn several visits prior to the change, I was disappointed at the menu’s offerings and the quality of the food. I hope Scala can retain their past quality in food. They were great. The service by the staff was good.
The waiter wasn’t very attentive. We waited over 20 minutes before he came to greet us. We expect more from him because he’s a little older which make me think that he was season. Perhaps that was the problem. When he finally came to Greet us he said that he was waiting for the sixth person of our party to arrive. I have been to so many nice restaurants and get so used to being greeted as I sit down at the table. The food and Scala is very nice but the service certainly does not match up the quality of the food.
The bathroom smell was not pleasant. It’s like the vent or pipe was by our table
I have been going to Scals's restaurant for many years, and have always had wonderful meals and excellent wine. Natalie, the hostess, is the best I have encountered in any restaurant. She is personable, friendly, thoughtful, and a delight to know.
The service has also been very good, and I have always enjoyed every meal I have eaten there.
My wife and I go to Scala’s when we come SF for the theater. The service and food is always extraordinary.
Always a fine dining experience, Scala blends an old line Italian menu with innovative takes on classic dishes and imaginative parings to keep this classic bistro delightfully fresh. First-class service and a welcoming vibe have kept this my go-to restaurant to introduce friends to San Fran dining.
Tourist trap. Spend 300 usd for a new year eve dinner. The food was terrible and the staff wanted to leave before midnight. Careful not to kill the golden egg hen.
Wonderful NYEVE n BDay celebration for my good friend from out of town !
Excellent menu choices for light fare after Xmas indulgence!
Baked Alaska w candle was a treat!!! Candle was relit twice for extra fotos n video !
We were seated at 8 pm and likely overstated our table...
11 pm ...but wait person was most cordial ! I left her a super duper gratuity!!!
Great restaurant with good quality food and good service. We went one night and returned the following day as we felt it was good for adults and kids alike.
Food was great. To bad we where seated for almost 40 minutes waiting to get the order.
Scala's has been my go to restaurant in Union Square for 20 plus years. Great for groups. Great for kids and families. Great for a romantic dinner. The food is always delicious and the wait staff is ALWAYS friendly, funny, and full of personality. I take all of my visitors here if Union Square is on our agenda. You won't be disappointed.
Simply wonderful every time!
Been going there for over 25 years always a nice experience
Scala's Bistro is only one block away from Union Square in downtown San Francisco. Nice location and is an easy walk to get too. Food is good and service was very good. Nice restaurant to eat at while vacationing in San Fran.
After a day of sightseeing with out of town guests Scala’s was the perfect family dinning spot. A highlight was the starlight room on the 21st floor.
Food was good, not great. Very overpriced for what you get.
Food was excellent and the server was nice. Unfortunately, I found a piece of plastic in my desert which was comped. I think the manager should have come over as well.
Our waiter was great. The host rolled his eyes at us when we asked for a booth and there were plenty of tables available. AND he added, as he shook his head, “Do you really need that much space?”
Another excellent meal and experience at Scala's! Natalie is the best hostess in San Francisco and it is so good to see her and receive her warmth each visit our family makes for Christmas and the New Year! Merci Bien Cherie!
I was disappointed in the service. From the hostess to the server, it did not improve. We waited unnecessarily for our table and then given a weak excuse as to the wait. Then we waited even longer for service at the table. We were seated in the bar area close to the front door and a side door. Every time either door opened cold air from outside made the experience even less enjoyable.
Une très bonne adresse à San Francisco.
A ne pas rater.
Despite having a reservation, we waited 20 minutes to be seated. The service was mediocre. The food was average. Best entree was the pork chop although much of it was fat. Pasta servings were tiny. Desert was good but also very small and high priced. Overall disappointed with the meal and experience. Convenient location was the best asset of this restaurant.
Poor service, mediocre food at high prices. Had to wait even though we had a reservation, very noisy
Average Italian food. There are many other better Italian restaurants in S.F. Noisy. Had to go to the bar in the hotel for a cocktail as restaurant bar was full with no standing room.
We were extremely disappointed with the food, service and ambiance at Scalas. The worst part was the strong “bathroom” odor coming from the ventilation.
The service was horrendous and the food average at best
Once seated, everything went well. Good service, excellent food. Portions were very large, but take home was accommodated, so I really can't complain. The only disappointment was waiting just over 30 minutes beyond reservation time to get seated.
Fantastic waiter, Bill, made it a great experience!
Service was great, food was great. Breakfast potatoes were scrumpilydelicious.
The best service always a pleasure.
Christmas Day, busy, relaxed, nicely decorated, good mid-day meal.
Service was awful except for the busboy who did the waiter's job and then some.
Dreadful experience. Slow, inefficient server, mediocre food at stratospheric prices. House red wine $19/glass. Noise deafening.
Great Xmas day lunch. Great service. Will come back again.
