Always had superb service and attention at Scala's. The food was good.
Dined at Scala three times during a recent stay. Outstanding food, service and ambience!!!
Been dining at Scala's for years -- never a bad meal, and always exquisite service.
Ravioli = incredible!!! Might be my favorite Italian ever.
Yikes! Always enjoy a great experience but watch prices. As of August 10th they have a new wine list and prices went up. Corkage fee is $25 so plan accordingly.
My very favorite restaurant in San Francisco! The food is fantastic, great drinks, and the hostess and our waiter Bruce the very finest! Can’t wait to go back. Try the ravioli.
Dishes were served steaming hot and freshly prepared. Spicy and perfectly al dente version of classic dishes like linguine with clam sauce. Service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive.
I have been to this restaurant several times and have not never been disappointed with the friendly service or the delicious food. This is a great spot for most occasions. I will be back.
Great food! Great service! Near Union Square- great location!
Very pleasant atmosphere from the moment we walked though the door. The hostess was joyful and quick. The food was awesome but or server “Bill” made the evening. He was attentive, funny, and helpful.
Still great after almost 20 years of coming here. Great food, love the booths and location.
I like Scala’s for an early lunch or early dinner. Good food and a beautiful space with nice wine selection. It gets really loud once the tables fill up so go early unless your hearing is outstanding. It’s a good place to sit at the bar for a solo meal or dinner for two and the noise level isn’t as bad up in that area.
This restaurant reminded me of a French brasserie. Similar level of noise and similar ambience. Salad was quite good, pizza okay. Waitress was very attentive. Don’t think I’d go again if I lived here. I found it expensive but it’s probably typical of downtown San Francisco.
Delicious dinner which was reminiscent of old Italian restaurants in the city. Attractive place, open kitchen, and good wine list.
Good traditional fare. The best was the fish of the day roasted in the brick oven with herbs and tomatoes. I ate it clean! Initially really liked our server but then couldn’t find her for awhile while wanting the check.
I had been at Scala's numerous times when I lived in San Francisco almost twenty years ago and at the time it opened it was a charming room with great Itallian food. That restaurant no longer exists. Today it is a noisy tourist trap that looks and feels worn out. The service was unbelievably bad....at least fifteen minutes for the first glass of wine which got us introduced to the underwhelming manager on duuty....for the entire remaindr of our meal NOTHING improved. terrible experience and a bad value proposition at any price.
Always good food and wine, one block from Union Square.
Poor service (slow, non-responsive) and one dish was served virtually inedible.
Poor from start to finish.
Table not ready on arrival , nowhere to sit, had to stand whilst people leaving pushed past.
Ordered plan pasta for my daughter. We requested it cooked for 4 min. ( after confirming it was dried and not fresh) when it arrived it was so soft, not even al a Dente.
They apologised and said we will cook for 2 minutes, remember this is dried not fresh pasta)
We had so ordered coke for my daughter which I had to request on three occasions.
My wife and I had finished our main course with no sign of my daughters pasta. When I enquired I was told there are other orders in the queue it will arrive shortly. There was no apology.
When it did arrive it was cooked exactly the same as the first time.
I refused to pay for my daughters food, for an Italian restaurant not to be able to cook pasta a la dente !!!!
I could not recommend this restaurant.
The bolognese taste like top ramen and meat sauce. Probably worst I’ve ever eaten. The service and dessert was great though......
We had horrible seats. Better seats were given to people who came after us. I really hope they paid more for their food. I do not recommend this place. As the poor service was not worth enduring the insulting service.
The salads were by far raved about by all of us. The woman who sat us was very friendly and accommodating! Our server made great recommendations and they remembered that I indicated that this was a friend's birthday!! Very nice and definitely will be back!!!
Great taste. Excellent service. Recommendation for breakfast. Good coffee, with almond milk, soy milk. good pastry.
Service started out great. As the dining progressed, service faultered. Had to search for someone to give us the ticket after 20 minutes of waiting.
Every time I’m in town I make it a point to hit this place! And it never disappoints! Truly one of my favorites anywhere in the country!
We always enjoy the "old SF" ambiance. The pork chops were delicious and the spaghetti with meat sauce was dry. The bostini was always a favorite, but reduced cake and custard was a disappointment.
The waiters and hostess were great making feel special.
Though we had a 9:30 reservation and we were early and seated by 9:30. The restaurant closed at 10:00 pm to letting new customers in, we were made to feel very rushed like they wanted us out quickly so staff could go home. Made us feel very unwelcome
Outstanding food and service
Great service and fantastic food. Good restaurant for a special occasion. Did not disappoint.
Not same quality Scalas that we visit yearly. The new look is not same ambiance as before.Nothing special about the place anymore.
they took a last minute reservation and welcomed us warmly and by name. table was great. service was very helpful even though we arrived close to closing time. dinner was excellent and we found a relatively inexpensive bottle of italian wine that was delicious. they even encouraged us to stay for dessert!
Food was over priced and not good. Very disappointing.
Excellent was recommended by the hotel. Food, service was great.
For years this has been our travel night restaurant. Food and service always outstanding!
I ordered the baked eggs dish which was cooked to perfection. Yolks were soft over creamed spinach and toast with prosciutto.
We shared a Cesar salad which was excellent. Dressing was perfection. My cousin had the cheese burger.
Service was terrible. Our server was apathetic and disinterested. Everything was too much of an effort. Our milk came when the coffee was cold. Our butter and preserves never arrived. The manager tried to compensate but the experience was already tainted.
Walking into a restaurant and being seated sets the tone for your experience. I wanted to love everything about this restaurant but... we were not greeted. We stood amongst a group of 5 or so and waited to be acknowledged. When we were finally acknowledged the hostess, no smile no welcome seemed distressed. We waited while our table was readied even though there were other tables ready for guests. Our waiter, Alejandro, went from cold and stressed, my impression, to warm and smiling. Just an air of stress, at first. The food- the Spaghetti bolognese was a combination of average sauce and poor noodles. The noodles cannot carry the sauce. It was more the a Chinese noodle. The carpaccio was very good, beautifully prepared and presented. The Spinach Budino was a star and not to be missed.
I was shocked by the poorly dressed diners! Tourists?!
Ravioli was definitely not fresh but frozen. Barely any cheese inside and not creamy. Croque Monseir sandwich had bechamel sauce on top instead of inside and no cheese baked on top. Service terrible. Had to ask for water to be refilled. Used to be a wonderful restaurant. Decor outdated and old looking. Would not return.
Best veal parmesan ever! It’s served on the bone. Each bite melts in your mouth! Delectable!
