We had a wonderful time
Very good food
The price of the wine were a little high
Crowded, vibrant, popular place. Service was good, but not very attentive (perhaps based on the crowd). We weren't extremely hungry, so ordered smaller portioned food. The mushroom pizza with pancetta and arugula was fantastic, and the crust was even better as leftovers the next day after warming in a saute pan on top of stove. Meatballs were really good as well - flavorful, good texture, and delicious accompanying marinara sauce. "Little Gem" salad was actually small heads of romaine, which is obviously different. Decent salad, but not memorable.
Anniversary. Food was nice but massively overpriced for something like a pizza or pasta, and whilst a chef can add a real personal touch to a dish (and therefore cost) I don’t think paying double for a bottled beer is remotely justifiable.
It’s a little pricey but totally worth it ! The food was great !
Thoroughly enjoyed spirits, all dishes and service. Scala's staff's attention to detail was precisely what we needed.
Nothing special, server tried to aggressively up sell everything. Small portions but fresh ingredients
I thought the dishes could have used more seasoning
But I would not recommend they go on a week-end unless they want breakfast. I have gone to Scala's many times for lunch before the theatre on a Saturday and have enjoyed a wonderful lunch. According to our server, Scala's recently changed their menu for Saturday and Sunday and now only offer a more limited Brunch menu. I didn't enjoy my lunch as much as in the past but my friends enjoyed theirs.
Very good food kind of hard to hear went on a date here probably not the best place if you want to get personal
Wow! What a disappointment! Had a Valentine’s Day dinner reservation and we were looking forward to a nice Italian meal. Unfortunately we did not find it at Scala. The food was mediocre at best and the service was just not there. True, they were busy but not so much that our server spent all her time at one large table(who were in the desert stage of there meal when we arrived). She virtually ignored the rest of her tables hoping for a large tip from the big group I would imagine. The best best part of the meal was spending time with my husband on Valentines!
Not impressed with the food and definitely overpriced
A lovely bistro in the city. Excellent entrees and appetizers. Fun evening with dinner and a show.
Their service was excellent, especially accommodating my guests while I was running to host my own dinner!
The food was very good and very well prepared. My only complaint would be that the noise level was excruciatingly high.
Delicious salmon. Beer salad was excellent!
Disappointed. We had to wait for everyone to show up to be seated. Our 4th got his meal about 10 minutes after the 3 of us did. One of my guests asked for Chili peppers.... he didn’t get it. Another didn’t get his salmon cooked right. My Cobb salad didn’t have egg.....
Service could be much better
Vincent was courteous, knowledgeable and professional. Excellent service.
Scala's never fails to please. Delicious food, attentive staff, and beautiful atmosphere.
This is my favorite pre-theater restaurant. I love the food and the atmosphere. Brunch is great here.
We just love this place for Italian food when NOT in North Beach!
Great service the ravioli was incredible beet salad delicious are other dishes clams and mussels just ok clams too spicy.
I just wasn’t wowed. The experience was very ho-hum. The water was polite but not really engaged. The selection was a bit limited and the food quality was very good. I’m not fussy, but nothing on the menu really appealed. So I just picked the most likely to please. It was all ok, but not Lot more than that.
While the staff and servers are very nice, the food quality appears to have really deteriorated. We started with the fritto misto. I have had this number of times before. This time, it was so overly fried that it was hard to tell the difference between the calamari and the vegetables. The prosciutto pizza was just okay, as was the whole fish. The cheese cake was also just okay. Overall, our dining experience was pretty disappointing.
The food is either a hit or miss. We were five of us and two dishes were good and three were below average. Service was below average. Server dropped food on my cloth (not a lot but enough to stain my white top), but never bothered to apologize. We ordered 4 appetizers and felt really rushed. We had to finish fast because there was no space to put the food.
Just wish they had soup on the menu on cold and rainy nights
Every time we come to SF for the last 20+ years, we make a point to going to Scala's. Dinner was excellent as usual
Appetizers arrived very quickly - well before the wine!
Other than that, everything was excellent.
Extremely overpriced. $16 for a salad. We are not talking about a "dinner" salad. Both of our pasta dishes were just ok, on the bland side. Had good memories of dining there about 10 years ago. Made the mistake of going back. Overpriced food and wine.
I had been to Scala's a few years ago for an excellent anniversary dinner. Service and food were both fantastic. Last week I hosted guests for a business meeting and was extremely disappointed in what has become of Scala's. The service was terrible. Prices were high. And food was only decent.
It was difficult to get our server's attention to order appetizers. Then he was back a few minutes later and took the main course order. He never even took a drink order! We had to stop him after ordering main courses to ask if we could order drinks as if it was a special request. The food came really fast and appeared to have just been warming in the kitchen. Again, we had to ask for silverware and linens because those had been taken with the apps. We tried ordering dessert, but several items were already sold out (on a weeknight). And again, I had to go find someone to bring silverware. Not sure if we just got unlucky with this server or whether it's an indication of the whole restaurant. Either way, I would recommend trying one of the many other wonderful restaurants in San Fran instead.
It was so loud you could barely hear the person next to you. They need to add some fabric decor or something to dampen the sound. It was so unpleasant we skipped dessert despite wanting to order. I do not recommend this restaurant. It was a painful experience. My ears are still ringing. Food was edible.
It was a great lunch!
Excellent, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Mussels and bronzino fabulous.
The primi pasta dish was out of this world.
Our server was just the best, everything perfect.
Was a little noisy, but high ceilings always do that. Restaurants all seem to be noisy these days.
Bill is The most kind, caring, efficient waiter ever!!
We had excellent service and the food was just perfect. Also delicious wine. We prefer the old decor before the remodel however. It seemed warmer and cozier before. The serving size of the meals was very generous and worth the price. Excellent preparations.
It is a go to restaurant for a night out. Great location and the food is always good. We generally eat family style and the staff is friendly and professional.
Absolutely the most accommodating and considerate staff in San Francisco. Made for an incredible experience all around. Our guests were delighted with the choice!
We had Bill as a server and he was amazing! Aside from his long arms (private joke) he was perfect. Great service, recommendations and personality. Thanks Bill!
I had a very pleasant lunch with a friend had not seen for several years. The staff was very friendly and patient, the food was very good, we talked for hours and never had the feeling that we had to leave, I recommend Scala Scala's Bistro very strongly.
