This is my second time here first time was for brunch and now dinner.
Enjoyed both but I honestly preferred the brunch
Great experience! Food was fantastic, service wonderful and all around great evening!
The appetizers were good. We got the fried veggies with calamari and the meatballs. The main dish was not good. I got pork chop and it was so fatty, Probably have 1 1/2 inch of fat and too sweet. My husband got the steak, it was tough and no flavor.
The staff were very nice and friendly though.
But, I don’t think I’ll come back here.
I was so disappointed! They had a brunch menu & it was very limited. We ordered the eggs Benedict & asked them “to split in the kitchen” & they bring it un-split. Again I ask to split it. In the process of sliding it off the plate my portion lost all the Hollandaise sauce.
We asked for decaf coffee. I had to ask for: cream, sugar & a teaspoon! Come on! Then the waiter Had the audacity to say we drank so much coffee that he had to charge us a second time when we only each had 2 cups of coffee! Come on!
Normally I’m not bothered by facial piercing, but this time the young man had a black nose ring and it just made it look like a black hair coming out of his nose it was very unappealing!
I am not going back there again I was so disappointed in the service and the lack of ability to split a simple dish
The appetizers were good. The pasta main courses were horrid. I had not been there in about 5 years. But remembered liking it the last time. Too bad - I probably will not return.
I have eaten here many times over the years. It is always good.
The bread was very good. The service was very good. The food was bland and had no flavor. The price was high as well.
Just wasn’t very good. I ordered the asparagus goat cheese pizza and four of the small slices were nothing but dough and it was hard to find the asparagus. My husband ordered the spaghetti and it was weirdly sweet and not much sauce. Open Table has $ and it was definitely $$ but we did not feel it was worth it.
So disappointed ~ the food quality was so much
less than I remember. The carpaccio was so over dressed - hardly eatable. And the noise level
Friendly and attentive waiter. Excellent menu and delicious well presented entrees
Scala's is incredibly reliable. The food is extremely tasty and diverse. There is always something new and interesting on the menu. This visit it was the swordfish and the remarkable sauce. Expect excellent service and gracious hospitality.
Wonderful food as always. Our waiter Bruce was amazing! I have always liked Scala’s Bistro, but this was a particularly great experience for my birthday celebration.
Asked for a Quiet table and the hostess have done a fabulous job of finding us a round table in the bar area.
Had a great table right next to the window. It was great for people watching and the people liked it too! I really wanted my left-overs but forgot them! :-(
Have been eating at Scala for over 20 years, absolutely love, love, love it - the food, service and ambiance is perfect. Definitely try the raviolis 1/2 lemon, 1/2 marinara!
Natalie is always wonderful!!!
Food was very good and large portions. Our single appetizer would have been enough for four people and way too much for the two of us. Pasta was excellent, as was the pork of the day (a nice bone-in chop in our case). It was very noisy, although the din diminished somewhat once a large, loud table of people across the room broke up. The wine pricing is a bit aggressive, particularly for the Italian reds (i.e., 3x+ retail). But very good location. It was an enjoyable evening of dining and I would both return and recommend.
had read about the clams pasta, my dish was very disappointing. The clams were overcooked and tough. My wife had the ravioli which was so over-soused could not taste the ravioli. We wont be back
Great food and fabulous service.
Food was good. I had an appetizer for dinner, but wasn't aware based on the menu description that all of the items were fried on my order. I would have liked some clarity about that on the menu.
The service was excellent! Our server, Bill, was very attentive, friendly and helpful.
Great food, great service
Great old world Italian restaurant. Awesome branzino and pappardelle w bolognese. Salads are enough for two to share. Would definitely recommend and comeback to next time we are in town.
Celebrating our Anniversary. We had come here 4 years ago based on a recommendation. We loved it so much, we dined again. Upon sitting down, Vincent served us some champagne and wished us a happy anniversary. I love that they have a seasonal menu. We asked for recommendations and he happily told us more than what was on the menu description wise. It gave us a better understanding of the flavors. Our dinners were fantastic.
He checked on us frequently and made us feel special...BTW, he asked our names, so when he came around, he would talk to us by name.
We definitely let TJ know how much we appreciated Vincent and his service. She also was so sweet. TJ asked us if we liked this table, as she would put this in the file for the next time we are in town, so we can be seated there.
Talk about a top notch anniversary dinner!
I have dined at Scala's many times. I didn't care for the Saturday brunch menu - too few choices. I opted for the burger. I requested medium and it came to me medium rare. I had to send it back. My friend's portobello mushroom sandwich had very little flavor. The meal was a real disappointment. Ice tea was good.
Scala's has been at the Sir Francis Drake a long time, but it never fails to fully satisfy in every way.
Outstanding food and service!
Nice place, everyone were friendly. Food is good and very unique, you can’t find simple carbonara there.
Being at a conference in San Francisco can be frustrating when your hotel is in the tenderloin district which is where most of the conference hotels are located. And here we were with only a few hours and wanting to walk off our conference fatigue with few options around us. I found Scala and I couldn't have been more pleased. It is a bit pricey but not terribly and the food was uniformly terrific. Our service was excellent and the ambiance conducive to conversation. It is a large restaurant adjacent to the Drake Hotel. I had the salmon which was excellent and my colleagues had pasta which they reported also excellent. I'm glad I found this as I will no doubt be back at my next west coast conference.
Very pleasant atmosphere. Nice diversity on their menu. We shared a salad, and a pizza, and a pasta. The salad was good. The pizza was very good. The ravioli with a lemon sauce was wonderfully cheesy and very good.
Bolognese was outstanding! Pasta cooked perfectly. The reason I gave the food and service only 3 Stars was because the fritto misto took forever to arrive (had to inquire twice) and seemed as though it had been sitting under a warming lamp too long. Not good at all. Should have sent it back but I did not want it arriving after the dessert. I will probably go again for the pasta.
Very good italian food and service. Excellent for any kind of occasion.
We ate at the bar due to time constraints, service was outstanding and the food even better but always excellent!
Must stop for great Italian
I believe they charge too much for the value they provide. I do not recommend it. You can get better value some where else or less expensive for quality of food you get at this place.
The food was excellent as always. The service was exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant
Three of the four dishes ordered were great, the fourth was just ok. We brought our own bottle of wine and had it on the table, but had to remind the waiter to open and pour it well after our dishes were served. No food quality check was done shortly after the food was served. Minor points maybe, but at these prices and in SF, I expect more.
Glad we were seated at the upper part and a bonus to be at the window.
And st to venture into the sir Francis drake hotel
The food didn’t have much of a flavor
Restaurant a bit noisy. Food good. Service spotty. Hostess not that attentive. Waiter was a little obtrusive at times and slow to bring the check when we had theater performance to attend.
Also, restroom location was upstairs and just 2 single restrooms being shared with private dining space on mezzanine made for a 15-minute wait.
Authentic Italian in every aspect, wonderful!
