We have been going to scholars for years. This is our travel day restaurant. The food and service is always excellent!
My experience at scala’s was unfortunately overshadowed by a waiter who should have been more honest about the serving sizes. We asked on 3 occasions before ordering what the portion sizes were like and whether we over ordered. We were assured we hadn’t. We felt like we had to eat as much as possible so as not to waste food or money. We left feeling uncomfortable rather than having enjoyed what was incredible food. Unfortunately that ruined my experience of what could have been an exceptional dining experience.
Food was overly salty. Good service.
Didnt have any premium tequila, went there for the veal parm...they took it off the menu...spotty service...generally disappointing. The vesuvio potatoes were only bright spot.
The food was amazing and our waiter was really nice and funny.
Hotel concierge recommended this place and it was great.
Good service and good food
Busy, noisy, great location, good cheerful service and very good food. Good value. for money.
I enjoyed Scala's, which was a great surprise! My colleagues and I split their meatball appetizer, which was delicious! Our table had the ravioli, spaghetti and gnocchi. All three were highly flavorful and wonderfully prepared. The sauce for the ravioli was amazing and powerful and the meatballs were rich in flavor. This is a great spot if you're down in Union Square and don't want to venture far. If you're in town for a conference in the area, check this place out! It's a great place for a business meal!
It was nice. Good place to get with your friends. Nice food though I'm not quite sure it was worth it's price.
Food was amazing and waiter/service even better! Get their meatballs! Loved it.
For some reason, I had expected a tastier experience; the food was okay but certainly nothing to get overly excited about with others. The service was very good.
Just another restaurant
The halibut is the best I’ve ever tasted! The salad is generously portioned and very fresh. This is a must do when in SF
Great caesar salad and watermelon salad. Halibut overcooked and pork chop nearly inedible...though and tasteless.
Wonderful deserts, especially the crumble.
Very good service.
Amazing experience but if you want to truly enjoy this you have to order the meatballs... literally that’s it, you could eat those and walk out having your best Italian meal in San Fran!
I’m a returning customer and have always been satisfied with the quality of the food ambiance and overall service. I always recommend Scala’s
Keep up the excellent job!!
Very noisy, couldn’t hear the person sitting on the other side of the table.
Disappointing! It has been several years but we have enjoyed Scala’s Bistro on more than one occasion when we visit SF. This night the food was mediocre and the noise level unpleasant.
We live in SF and so enjoy the nostalgia of our historic districts and use of public transit. This location is maintaining some of its history while tastefully updating decor. The service is always excellent, and the food consistently good quality and dining choices. A pleasure to come here as well as bring out of town visitors.
This is a neighborhood gem. Our waiter is wonderful, attentive and entertaining. The food is so good- my brother LOVED his spaghetti bolognese- thought the pasta was handmade which it likely is. The pasta with clams is delicious too!
Great as always. Hostess honored our request to be seated away from any noisy diners and children. Much appreciated.
We always look forward to eating at Scala's. Today's brunch was the eggs benedict and granola, with a side of pork sausage. So yummy. This is our favorite Union Square spot!
Great place, loved the hostess, she was darling!
Too noisy - music too loud at breakfast (10:30a.m.) could not talk with one another.
Requested a "quiet" table, though not much could be done as the acoustics are not good + the music.
Thank you for asking.
Delicious meal and a reasonable night out if you bring your own wine
Good food, excellent service.
Couldn’t have been nicer
A little loud for my taste, but I do understand the time and in the middle of the city. The service was a bit spotty and the Caesar salad was a joke.....what’s up with standing the lettuce up on its end & then charge $19.00 for it........A millennial salad !!!
Food delicious. Meatball appetizers outstanding. Food portions perfect. Service excellent. the theatre and Scala's perfect Saturday.
We celebrated our anniversary with dinner there. The recommendation came from a friend. We received special treatment for our 28 years together. I will go back again!
Most of what we had was wonderful: Mussels, salad and pasta. One person had pork and was disappointed and the halibut was not done as well as it could have been. Wonderful atmosphere and great staff. We love it for pre-theatre dining.
Always had superb service and attention at Scala's. The food was good.
Dined at Scala three times during a recent stay. Outstanding food, service and ambience!!!
Been dining at Scala's for years -- never a bad meal, and always exquisite service.
Ravioli = incredible!!! Might be my favorite Italian ever.
Broke a wine glass.
Yikes! Always enjoy a great experience but watch prices. As of August 10th they have a new wine list and prices went up. Corkage fee is $25 so plan accordingly.
My very favorite restaurant in San Francisco! The food is fantastic, great drinks, and the hostess and our waiter Bruce the very finest! Can’t wait to go back. Try the ravioli.
Dishes were served steaming hot and freshly prepared. Spicy and perfectly al dente version of classic dishes like linguine with clam sauce. Service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive.
I have been to this restaurant several times and have not never been disappointed with the friendly service or the delicious food. This is a great spot for most occasions. I will be back.
