We ate at the bar due to time constraints, service was outstanding and the food even better but always excellent!
Must stop for great Italian
I believe they charge too much for the value they provide. I do not recommend it. You can get better value some where else or less expensive for quality of food you get at this place.
The food was excellent as always. The service was exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant
Three of the four dishes ordered were great, the fourth was just ok. We brought our own bottle of wine and had it on the table, but had to remind the waiter to open and pour it well after our dishes were served. No food quality check was done shortly after the food was served. Minor points maybe, but at these prices and in SF, I expect more.
Glad we were seated at the upper part and a bonus to be at the window.
And st to venture into the sir Francis drake hotel
The food didn’t have much of a flavor
Restaurant a bit noisy. Food good. Service spotty. Hostess not that attentive. Waiter was a little obtrusive at times and slow to bring the check when we had theater performance to attend.
Also, restroom location was upstairs and just 2 single restrooms being shared with private dining space on mezzanine made for a 15-minute wait.
Authentic Italian in every aspect, wonderful!
Always enjoy stopping in here when spending a weekend on Union Square. Consistently great food in a very nice SF open style restaurant. Will be returning, sitting at the bar while having your meal is a lot of fun.
Our table service was great / bar service not very good
The waiter was outstanding and personable. The food and service were great. My son had a burger and the fries that came with it were some of the best we have ever had. Good diverse brunch menu. We went for Mother's Day and were impressed.
We had a great time. Table 53. Fantastic!! Everything was perfect!
I have been to the restaurant for lunch several times in the past and liked it. The food was good. I don't know what has happened. The food last weekend was mediocre. It was cooked by a novice. The little gem salad was too dry. The lettuce was cut into chunks and it did not go down well. The scallop dish had three scallops that were not bad, but it had a huge pool of spinach (I like spinach) but this was too much. I would not recommend it.
Absolutely fantastic meal, everyone at the table was happy and the price was reasonable. Nice size portions. Perfect Italian pick for the evening
Ravioli with lemon-cream sauce paired with Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay was the best. Will be back for more plates on the menu and their wine list. Toku was the best server. Will be requesting him for future visits.
This use to be a good restaurant. The quality of the food has gone down hill
You should have seen the food that we had. Pork chop was HUGE. My veal parmesan was incredibly tasty. They had fantastic side dishes. Great wine list. Love the place and will be back!
We had a lovely dinner. Our waiter was outstanding. Food delish. Close to where we were staying.
Excellent food and service. A bit noisy on a Friday night.
Trop de bruit de conversation, mauvaise acoustique
Food and service is good. I thought I mentioned in Open Table that it was a birthday. There was no mention of birthday when we got to Scala's.
Amazing food. Loved the service. Our waiter, Bruce, was fantastic. Can't wait to come back again!!
I was especially impressed with the service. As soon as Jeremy, our table server, came to greet us at the table, he wished us happy anniversary and offered us some bubbles. I was pleased that the notes on my reservation had actually been looked at, and that he kept the special occasion in mind. In addition, when addressing the menu, he immediately addressed the other note I had left regarding my dietary preference as a vegan. He was incredibly helpful in coordinating between me and the kitchen. Although the vegan options were extremely limited, I did have a good meal, my husband was also pleased with his meal. At the end of the meal we were also invited to a desert (fruit sorbet... Only Vegan choice) because of the special occasion. The sorbet were also good above average. Overall, the food and wine were good, but the service is really what wins the top rating.
Always a great time at Scala's! It's a great place to meet friends and a enjoy a wonderful meal.
Great service, great food. Beautiful atmosphere. Will definitely return the next time we are in sf. We had the salmon and the risotto. You can take kids there. Kids meals were also delicious. Yummy pasta with butter and Parmesan that melted in your mouth and fabulous pizza with authentic sauce.
I chose Scala because of it's location. It was okay.
Best Itailian food in San Fran!
From the hostess to the wait staff, everyone was friendly and pleasant. The food was delicious. My husband and I shared the burrata starter and Scala's version of Boston cream pie which was so good. We both enjoyed our entrées. I had the ricotta cheese gnocchi with fresh peas and loved it. It was a very light gnocchi. Highly recommend this restaurant.
My colleague wanted a nice Italian dinner so I booked this. Found it to be average at best. Pasta not homemade and in tasteless sauce. Steak that I could have made myself. I was disappointed to say the least.
Service was stellar. Great food. Restaurant was a bit noisy.
Dined here several times and always enjoyed. Tonight the Caesar salad dressing was very sharp, but worse the risotto of the day was sloppy and the rice over cooked and mushy. Very fusappointing
Scales is not what it used to be. Once again they've changed chefs and the Asiago pork pappardelle is off the menu. This was their best signature dish and it's gone. Instead I was to told the rigatoni bolognese is fantastic. Well it wasn't very dry and very normal. We had a pizza as an appetizer to share. Did someone forget how to make an Italian styled Pizza? The whole menu is pretty much changed and not very impressed. Scales to me was a must stop especially for the Asiago pappardelle. How can they throw out a signature dish and replace it basic bolognese. Sorry scales but with this menu and the disappointment, it's no longer a must for me. Staff very friendly but it doesn't change the food. Many more better choices around the area.
I had held on to a gift certificate for years that applied to a bunch of Bay Area restraurants. Most of them were closed but Scalia’s thankfully wasn’t because the online menu looked great. We met my best friend and her beau that had come from Oregon to help me with an event the previous day. Loved the atmosphere and the extremely friendly welcome and service thru out lunch. I ordered the burger (without bun) and it was perfectly cooked to my preferred med-rare. My husband also had the burger, also perfectly cooked med-rare, my friend had the Portobello sandwich and her beau had the seasonal quiche with fruit. We all enjoyed the food and a few nice cocktails. We felt very relaxed being there and look forward to dining there again soon :-)
Delicious bolognese sauce!!
Meal was fair. Service was slow and somewhat arrogant.
Great service and wonderful atmosphere for having a family birthday celebration. The foot was outstanding
We had a great time at the first time. The employees were friendly and welcoming. They have been doing good service for the guests. We are so excited for the evening and we will do it again next time when we will go to San Francisco.
The lunch special is way too expensive at $32.00. It was only rissotto with pork. If it's filet mignon, it's understandable or for dinner price.
The restaurant was really busy when we arrived, however this did not stop us from receiving a great service. We had a tall gentleman as our waiter, not sure of his name, I think he said he was from New York/ Jersey. He was really friendly and provided an excellent service. The food was nice too.
