SB Prime Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I made reservations for dinner prior to theatre. We had dined there on one previous occasion with a mixed experience and decided to give the restaurant one more try. We were surprised when we asked why they were not serving bread with our meal to be told that there was no bread that day because the bakery had not made a delivery. Since it was only 5:15 I wondered why a staff member could not have gone to a local grocery store and resolved the issue and when I suggested that to the waiter I only received a blank stare. Certainly not a good experience and will not be returning as there are many excellent restaurants in downtown Burlington!
SB Prime was fantastic and an excellent choice for date night. We arrived a little late, and the Chef stayed late to accommodate our arrival. Great ambiance, excellent service and delicious wines. I would recommend SB Prime to anyone who enjoys fine dining.
We sat for quite some time before being served. Drink and food ordered at the same time as per waiters suggestion. First course arrived before our cocktails. Second course arrived very quickly afterwards...we asked for a break before dessert. No offer of coffee or tea.
food was mediocre.
On Saturday, I went to Prime with my daughter prior to going to the Burlington Arts Centre. This allowed us to order 1 entre and receive one free. An excellent offer which definitely enticed us to go to dinner prior to the show. We both had Filet Mignon, which was excellent, and shared a salad, which was delivered on two plates, which was a nice surprise. The salad was great, but I would have liked a bit more dressing. And we were not offered fresh ground pepper, which is always welcome by me. We were a little disappointed that the entrees only came with roasted garlic and onion and we had to order sides separately. I would have expected vegetables and a choice of potatoes/rice to be included. Both the potato gratin and the risotto that we ordered were delicious. Maybe I just have to get used to the idea of ordering sides separately. My daughter had a rehearsal dinner at PRIME, before her wedding in 2013, and it was completely outstanding! We will definitely go again.
Incorrect address on websites. Small, open kitchen, not really scenic. Limited wine list and of the items they had, they had already run out of 3 choices.
On a positive note the food was good both appetizer and entry.
If we had a bigger party, it would have been tight and now room to enjoy ourselves.
There were only two tables occupied on a Thursday night leading me to believe SB is past its Prime. Service was average, steaks were slightly overcooked and dry. Poorest ribeye ever, in fact one had on Austrian Airlines surpasses this one. Too bad as our first visit last year was great, next visit was ok and thought we would give it another try.
Met up with an old friend and it was not busy when we were there for lunch so it allowed us to catch up and share some laughs without out disturbing the other guests. Been there for dinner before and it was much more lively. Overall good lunch but I was being healthy and I know there are some items that are decadent on the lunch menu and I am sure would have been exceptional - Lobster for lunch! That said come for dinner sometime and get a steak ... excellent but in both cases lunch and dinner ... wonderful staff.
I went to SB prime for my 27th birthday and really enjoyed the time I had while I was there. I ordered the swordfish which I have never had before and is not one of my favorite dishes. The service was excellent our waters were always full and the wine we selected was superb.
This was our second time to SBPrime. The first visit was excellent but this time while the service was exceptional, we found our strip loins a little tough. We both order them as medium rare and while they appeared cooked correctly the meat just didn't seem tender. I also ordered the roasted vegetables and found the asparagus to be burnt and dry on the best part - the tips. My husband also ordered the ceasar salad and he was very disappointed as it had hardly any dressing on it and what dressing there was, was very runny. Bread was also not provided but other tables did get some.
The dining area was small but very nice. The waiter took our drink order eventually. We waited 15 minutes to get our drinks. We had to pretty much beg for another. We weren't offered a third, so we went elsewhere. He was not attentive.
We ordered oysters. They were great.
I got swordfish. It was dry and flavorless and I did not enjoy it. I took a few small bites and I kindly let the waiter know. He took it from me & didn't say a word. No offer of another dish.
He wouldn't stay long enough to hear where we wanted the apps, so they ended up w/ me. I paid $117.00 for only 3 oysters & two bevs. Disappointed.
We have many events & I was hoping to bring people in. I don't know if I will be back. I cannot afford the very poor service.
We have had steak @Prime b4, and that's why we went back. Unfortunately this time food was disappointing. Steak was not well done, had blood all over my plate, from the "well done" steak. Took my steak back to grill it to the fullest, however my appetite was gone by then. :-( it was my husband's birthday and the waiter didn't give him a dessert on the house, just cause the food wasn't as we have ordered !!! (unlike KEG's or Chops service)
Otherwise atmosphere is very suitable for a romantic evening!
This restaurant has prime location in downtown Burlington. I had high expectations. There was a piano bar at the front; the piano player was not very good and only served to make our dining experience too loud. We sat in a small square dinning room behind the bar area. Not warm or welcoming. Service was terrible, bar tender decanted our wine after pouring our glasses. Waiter did not return to pour the second glass of wine. He had no personality. Food was good but it was a basic meal filet mignon with a side of season vegetables. I don't like having to pay for my sides separately. I feel like I'm not getting value for my money. I will not return.
Made a reservation to a downtown Burlington Restaurant that my wife and I enjoyed so much the first time but it turned out to be much less enjoyable the second time. A combination of the seating arrangement, the waiter, the food was all a little disappointing this time around. I faced a garage pull down wall this time, the waiter asked us if we found any winners on our menu a few times, we ordered a cheese plate and the amount of toast and bread basket(4 slices in it) did not suffice the double amount of cheese. The rib eye steak was sliced very thin and over cooked. Lastly the live music stopped at 8pm and the choice of piped in music was poor...should pay the extra hour to keep live musician.
Everything was top notch. Food, service and ambiance all combined to make for an excellent evening. We were celebrating a special evening and manager Darryl went out of his way to make it so, even including a complimentary 1/2 bottle of champagne. the Taste of Burlington Menu had great choices and all foods sampled were outstanding. Excellent value for the price charged.
Ordered the pre-fixe menu and added crab cakes. The food was so-so. Definitely glad we tried the pre-fixe menu as it was a bit pricey. The wine ordered was about $50 for the bottle- once returning home tried to find it online because we liked it and was disappointed to see the average price per bottle was $8. Huge mark-up. The crab cakes were a bit bland but not terrible. Also ordered the Caesar and pork belly. Both lacked the flavor we were hoping for. For entrees ordered the steak and Cajun chicken papardelle. The steak was very peppery but good. The chicken had no spice at all and came out with Farfalle. Dessert was good- but not great. Overall was a fun place but likely won't be back.
The entire meal was awful. Tuna tartare was so over marinated that the tuna was blac and the salt content was far too high. My husbands steak was under seasoned and over cooked, and it was the first braised veal shank I have ever had that was actually tough. The waiter was up observant and unapologetic about the temperature of the steak. Would never go back.
Dined here June 14th with my wife. I ordered a Strip loin rare, and when I received it, it was over cooked. I was asked by whom I think was the manager if everything was okay, and made him aware of the problem. He was very rude, and begrudgingly took my steak to replace it. He then returned 2 minutes later with my same steak, and I was told it was cooked perfectly, and that I was wrong (the steak was quite obviously medium, and light grey is pink in the middle). Not wanting to create a scene, I took it back. I have never seen such appalling service. To have your meal parading around your restaurant for inspection is unacceptable. Our steak was also not removed from the bill. I will give you some credit though, my mashed potatoes were great.
We were very impressed with SB Prime. The service was outstanding. The steak tartar was amazing, better than when we ordered it at a fine restaurant in Hungary. For an entre, my husband ordered the rib eye and the flavour was exceptional. We visited Prime for a special occasion and were not disappointed. Enjoyed the 1/2 priced bottle of wine on a Monday. Very relaxed atmosphere. Will deffinately visit again.
We were so excited for this restaurant!! Our server Andrew was fantastic:) However the food was such a disappointment:( My veal shank was tasteless, but the spaghetti squash was amazing. My friends stuffed chicken was soooo dry she couldn't eat it. She asked me to try it and I could see how DRY it was, no thanks! Her husbands steak was not good either and my Husbands mashed potatoes were so cold that the butter didn't melt. Andrew was great and brought us a GREAT dessert to make up for it and that was a nice treat!! Oh he also took the chicken off the bill(thank you Andrew). However we wont return based on the fact there was too much wrong with our main courses. So unfortunate... because it has a nice atmosphere!
Great food and a central location to meet friends...went on St. Patrick's Day and most items on the menu were not available. But everyone in our group was impressed with the food. Only real downside was a $39.00 parking ticket, because i took the stub into the restaurant to get the advertised "free parking" for the restaurant. I am not from Burlington and it will not be worth my while to try and fight the ticket. Be careful and make sure you split the ticket and only take 1/2 into to the restaurant.
We will definitely return to this restaurant and look forward to our next meal there!
We had a reservation booked and when we went to the restaurant we were told they had a private function and we would have less than 2 hours to eat. Not a great way to start the meal. The waiter was great but we felt very disconnected from the restaurant when we were sat in the back room. Food was definitely not as good as our first visit to SB Prime. We were not impressed with the new menu or the quality of the food. We will not be returning to SB Prime any time soon.
Went to SB Prime mid week for lunch with a group. Only two others were there and it was Taste of Burlington. Great service from a very good waitress but we were in a room off the main bar area which felt a bit like a secondary room. The main bar area was empty. Food was just ok and we didn't like anything on the TOB menu so chose off the main menu. Would not rush back.
I would recommend this place! It was a great valentines evening. Andrew was our server and was great, attentive, little things as pouring our second glasses of wine when noticed glasses were empty. Food was quite good, especially the scallops app... To die for, coming from two foodies! Will for sure return!
