Sazón is owned and operated by Jose and Manny Navarro. We are the only authentic, and highest reviewed Peruvian Restaurant north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Sazón serves up a variety of appetizers, ceviches, soups and salads, vegetarian plates, sandwiches and classic meals.
Our family is originally from Lima, where authentic Peruvian recipes were passed down by our great-grandmother, Maria Olinda, who herself came from Peruvian, African, Spanish and Italian ancestry. Peruvian cuisine fuses different periods from the South American country's history, from the ancient Inca empire through the Spanish conquest, which brought in slaves from Africa and China; further influences came from Italian and Japanese immigrants, blending indigenous foods of Peru and cooking methods of four continents into a unique taste

Sazon was an unexpected delight. The menu was unique and creative. The many varieties of cerviche make a great first course. The main dishes were all delicious as were desserts. Service was timely despite a very crowded restaurant. The feel of the place was positive and uplifting. Definitely a go to spot. Reservations recommended.
We've been to Sazon countless times and we are impressed each visit. One item on my "bucket list" is to make it through their entire menu. I've not succeeded yet, but I intend to make the required effort.
The tiny location appears ready to expand. This will enable more people to experience this delightful and amazing cuisine.
Sazon is a small, local neighborhood Peruvian Restaurant with excellent authentic Peruvian fare. The seafood stews and ceviches make you feel like you are dining in a foreign country. Everything is fresh, prepared to order and comes with an ingredient and preparation explanation from your server. We love to bring out of town guests to experience Sazon. I would recommend reservations as the small space fills quickly. It is on my "favorite" list.
Haven't been here in over a year but little has changed. The food is excellent. I'm a big fan of causa limena and there's is as pretty as it is delicious. Service is always good and the attention to detail makes this small space seem large in the food world. Peruvian specialties.
We three friends shared the halibut ceviche which was exquisite. Then we had three different entrees each of which was delicious as we all tried them out. The chicken, beef, and pork empanadas with perfect flaky crusts , fine seasonings in the meat and vegetable dishes, and lovely Peruvian cocktails all created a delightful meal. We were too full to try desserts, but will return for those as they looked very special. This will become a regular go-to place as well as one to take out-of-town guests.
I expected the mango ceviche to look like mango salad but it was just shrimps with a lot of sauce which tasted like mango. The Paella tasted good but looked so simple. The beef stew tasted good as well as the size of the serving. Overall the food we ordered tasted good but the prices are a little bit too much for the size of serving.
My roast chicken was a good lunch dish although it didn't come across as especially Peruvian. The appetizer sampler was a real treat. I wish this restaurant was in our neighborhood because I suspect we'd be regular customers. The whole menu sounds scrumptious.
I have eaten here numerous times and it is always excellent. I love the peso sours and the roasted corn. I had the tilapia this time and was disappointed that it was over cooked. The sauce was too spicy for the delicate fish. I really love the atmosphere and the friendly family vibe. I wish that they would do more dishes that were not so spicy. I will recommend to friends and go again.
How nice to enjoy Peruvian cuisine in Santa Rosa. Very friendly service & terrific food. Too much talapia on the menu (I consider this to be a lesser fish.) That said, mine was delicious. Fun to have a pisco sour cocktail & a decent wine. The pork empanada was delicious, tastier than the bland chicken one. Both had nice, flaky crusts. We went on a week night, fairly early, and had reservations, so no trouble getting just the table we liked. This place could really flourish if they had a nicer, more upscale location.
Sazon has been a favorite since it opened and it has only gotten better. Son took me there for Fathers Day and entrees were spectacular. Service can be a little slow but I think that is because every thing is prepared from scratch. We refer a beer for the somewhat spicy dishes so I can't speak to the wine list. Reservations a must at popular time.
Interesting flavors and beautiful presentation. Next time I will try one of the ceviches - they have lots of choices. I had a special - corvina crusted with quinoa in a nice sauce. Dining partner had the Peruvian chicken with french fries. It was good - not outstanding. TINY place - so make a reservation, especially on weekends. Friendly folks, including the owner who is a whirlwind and is passionate about the food of his native country.
We found Sazon by word of mouth and celebrated our anniversary here. It is a hidden treasure in an out of the way neighborhood. The server helped us to order a sampling of food to share. The seafood stew was outstanding. We also shared the pork stew and calamari appetizer and tried Peruvian beer.
We will definitely come back to try out the various ceviches. Reservations are a must for this tiny dining room. It was an authentic dining experience.
What a gem! You wouldn't expect this in Roseland, but this is a too-notch eatery. Interesting and well executed menu, decent wines, and an impressive owner who takes care of each table. Hope it doesn't get ruined when he has to move and expand. Be sure to have a reso.
We went because of some rave reviews in Yelp. But their main dishes are nothing special and are probably way too mild there is a surprising lack of spice and flavors. The portions for appetizers are pretty small for the price they charge. We also found the dessert we ordered disappointing. Will not come back nor recommend friends to come. We made a reservation, only to find out at the scene that their tables are served on a first-come-first-serve basis!
We reserved a table via open-table website at 7pm. But when we turned out at 7pm, there was no table reserved for us, and there were some people standing next to tables where people were eating their dinner. When we managed to find a waitress to ask about our reservation, we found out that a reservation doesn't mean anything because tables are served on a first-come-first serve basis!
We ordered two of their specials - a seafood stew with rice, and talipai (fish) with rice. Both lacked flavors and I would say they are too ordinary for their price.
The appetizer we ordered - mango cerviche, had good flavors but portion was small for its price. The dessert we ordered - afahores with a lucuma ice-cream: the menu says lucuma ice-cream is a tropical fruit ice-cream, and it got rave reviews for its taste. But to our disappointment, we were given a caramel based ice-cream and there was no fruit flavor in it. So what happened to that we don't know. Maybe the lucuma ice-cream had sold out but they didn't tell us and instead, served us with a latte ice-cream.
Food was overrated. The salt content could kill anyone with blood pressure. Also, although my wife and me arrived ahead of the couple behind us, the wait staff assumed the caucasian and his mate were first. As a result they were served first. Whether it was intentional or not it stung.
My brother brought me and mom here for Mother's Day. The food was amazing, so flavorful. We had the Ensalada Bistec (light and delicious steak salad), Lomo Saltado (super-yummy steak but too many carbs w/both rice and fries) and Adobo de Chancho (amazing!!). I can't wait to go again and try more items. The staff is friendly; the wait for food was reasonable. There are very few tables so definitely make reservations.
We saw the Trip Advisor review for this restaurant in Santa Rosa and figured this was the restaurant for us. We had eaten at SF's La Mar on the Embarcadero and really enjoyed it. Sazon's owner, who is also the greeter, assured us that the food ingredients here were imported from Peru. We enjoyed talking with the owner who suggested certain plates. We had their $20 appetizer plate and their $27 ceviche plate. We also ordered their sweet plantains on rice with fried egg - very good. We also had their delicious chicken empanadas. We enjoyed very much their pisco sour and red sangria. Don't recommend the white sangria - not much flavor. We had a good time with good food. Their restaurant is small so definitely make reservations, otherwise you won't be seated for 2 hours. They are planning on expanding the restaurant soon.
I've been to Sazon several times, and the food is always delicious. On this occasion, it was the same. I had the seafood paella--flavorful and plenty of seafood. My partner had the trout--also well prepared. I encourage you to try the ceviches. They have a neat ceviche sampler. The service was good for a busy night and the food, once ordered, came quickly. The ambience was not great though. It was loud and customers were packed into a small space. We sat right next to the door at 6:15 pm and customers were coming in and out constantly or standing beside us for the first 45 minutes. It was chilly, and they didn't want to wait outside. I didn't like the customers hovering over us and looking into my dish. Definitely not a romantic feel. I've enjoyed myself more sitting further into the restaurant. I'm glad to see the restaurant has become popular, but I'd wait for a table further in in the future. Reservations are definitely recommended.
