Food was horrible. Drink was poorly made.
The food was great but the service was lacking. We were there on a Saturday night with only one other table being served. Our server disappeared after our meal arrived. We saw her walking back and forth cleaning and prepping other tables when the place was empty. Just disappointing.
Good variety of dishes well prepared. This is a convenient neighborhood restaurant with an attractive atmosphere and attentive wait staff.
Cute place really. The manager greeted us nicely but that’s where the good ended. It took forever to order our drinks and our server was eager to take our dinner order at the same time. Nope - drinks first please.
We ordered an appetizer trio and I kid you not when I say that all tasted like they came out of a can. ( and an old one at that ) Tasteless!
Then we decided to cut our losses and move on to another spot. Sadly it took another 10 minutes to get our bill.
Sorry - I try to be fair and am so in this case as well.
I have frequented this establishment for 15+ years. It has always been a great experience.
Great service and delicious food. Wait staff very attentive.
Different and good food. Very good prices
Sayat Nova is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago - we wish we could travel there more often. Always love the baba ganoush and sarma. Quiet and nice atmosphere.
Excellent Armenian cuisine that’s always reliably delicious! Been coming here for years while on trips to Chicago and always a great experience!
It was late Sunday around 8pm so the place was not crowded. The entire staff was extremely nice and the food exceeded our expectations. My mouth is watering as I remember it while writing this review.
Definitely go back again... maybe even next weekend!
This was the first visit and it was fantastic. The food was some of the best armanian food. My boyfriend is middle eastern. He said it was as good as his families.
I am a regular and have been coming at least every month for 2 years. The service is always great and the food is consistent. Keep up the great work guys!
My husband & I went on a Saturday at 1:00. There was no one else at the tables but there was 4 guys at the bar that were loud and obnoxious. We sat & ordered the sampler appetizer - it was good. But unfortunately the guys at the bar ruined the experience for us. We decided we really didn't need to hear about their big egos and decided to leave. Our server was gracious as we explained that we would come back & give the place another try. I didn't get the feeling that the guy behind the bar really cared. The guys at the bar were disgusting. If this had been a dive bar I could have understood, but lunch time on a Saturday to have 4 drunks at the bar that I don't understand. Not sure if we will go back as it left a bad taste
Steak kabob tasted great, along with the lentil soup.
Wonderful ambience! Lantern lit and quiet. The food was delicious and came out very quickly. Service was a little slow but a huge party came in and it was Saturday night. I absolutely recommend it!
Having visited Sayat Nova many times I can say we've never been disappointed with the quality of their food or service. A pleasant quiet dining experience. Love the fresh flowers!
Very nice, good food
We started with the mezza sampler choosing the baba, taboule, and jajic. They were all good. For dinner I had the sarma platter. While the grape leaves were tasty there was about a quarter inch of standing water in the plate which I assume came from microwaving them. The stuffed eggplant was very dry and very flavorless.
It might be a good place for appetizers but I wouldn't eat dinner here again.
Good food and friendly service. Would go back. Authentic food
My girlfriend and I were in Chicago on vacation from Ohio. I got big props on finding this quaint little place! Great food and very pleasant staff. Very authentic!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The food is consistently good and there are a lot of choices to please everyone. The service is great, it is comfortable and cozy and not too pricey!
The food was amazing. Everything was authentic and delicious!!!
My family is from eastern Europe, so the type of food served here (Armenian) is somewhat familiar. I had the smoked eggplant appetizer, followed by lamb meatballs in a mint yoghurt soup. Flavors was delicate and the food was well-prepared. It wasn't very busy, so service was very quick and the pace could have been slowed down a bit. I had the appetizer within a few minutes, and the main course followed right on it's heels (the soup included with the main course came out before I was finished the appetizer). The food was excellent, it just would have been nice if dinner was longer than 30 minutes (from seating to paying the check).
Excellent home style cooking of Armenian cuisine, solidly good without over-sophistication. Offers excellent dishes like Kufta which are not always found in typical restaurants of similar categories.
Love this restaurant. It really is a neighborhood gem! It's my third time around and I'm already referring it to many. Love Love the knaffi and all the Yelp reviews aren't wrong - the lamb, (anything lamb) is amazing. Highly recommend.
This was a nice atmosphere to have a conversation. Not too loud. The service was excellent.
The food was excellent. The lamb was superb. The staff was very friendly.
A great place for good food and nice service. Low key, fun place priced right for what it is...a nice place for dinner
Good food, friendly service. Authentic atmosphere.
Great spot for authentic Armenian food, which is similar to Lebanese, Greek, and Turkish cuisine. Inventive interior design with circular booths along the perimeter, which gives a nice sense of privacy, especially for couples. On our visit for dinner, there was a very large party (around 20), and our table service suffered in terms of attentiveness. By no means a deal-breaker, though.
Very nice place and I have been there many times. Great service. I brought my cousin and his wife from out of town for dinner and drinks.
Garlic yogurt sauce is not good! There is no garlic
Delicious food, good service. My husband and I went with two friends, everyone enjoyed the food, and the wine. We will definitely be going back again.
Very tasty food. Nice ambiance and decor. Kibbe was awesome. Creative cocktails.
We had the mezza sampler to start with hummus, yalanchi sarma & plaki.
The hummus & yalanchi sarma were good. The plaki was so incredibly bland.
I really wanted to order the red lentil soup, but it's made with chicken stock - why?!
Suggestion: use vegetable stock, which would create an additional vegan dish on the menu.
I ordered that same mezza sampler for my main - because I'm vegan - and while the plaki was bland, I was hankerin' for more beans.
Husband ordered the kebab combo which he said was tasty.
Our reservation was at 9pm. The kitchen closed at 10pm.
Once the kitchen closed, the staff lit up their cigarettes in either the kitchen or back room,
and that smoke permeated the entire restaurant like a bar in the 1980s.
One could avoid that smoke with an earlier reservation.
I don't need to go back.
This was a restaurant favorite of my family Years ago. I had not been in some time, and will not go back.
The food was truly mediocre and over-priced. My German guests barely touched their plates beginning with really "un-inspired" salads through main courses. The only good dish seemed to be a lentil soup.
Having eaten in many many middle eastern restaurants this place left much to be desired. First off, the pita bread tasted like generic grocery store version. Meat was under seasoned and over cooked and never got better from there.
Great place, food and service are excellent. We have dinner here every time we are in Chicago.
This was not my first visit to Sayat Nova. I've been a customer for years. Everything about our meal was perfect with the exception of one mighty stiff drink. My partner's drink was fabulous, so perhaps mine was just a mistake. I'd still comeback in a heartbeat.
Although the menu looked exciting, the quality of the food was just okay. I wouldn't mind eating there if I need something quick to grab. Otherwise, I wouldn't consider it for business or special occasion meals.
